Oh yeah, you're right! I was thinking differently because I don't think AC1 is available on the store, but those systems are backwards compatible with a disc copy. Good spot!

As an old fan who has grown exhausted by the latter half of the series, I'm really surprised and impressed by your dissection of the series' first entry. It gladdens me to see someone else enjoy it so much, when so many fans I talk about it with either haven't played it since release, or just never played it. The fact that people outright reccomend to skip it still baffles me to this day. I guess it was due to the story not being as overtly presented as Ezio's was. But, I kind of preferred it that way. The Assassins you meet all have unique and interesting personalities throughout. Al Mualim is charismatic and intelligent, with a vast pool of wisdom that belies a cunning and manipulative mind. He's actually one of the best villains in the series in my opinion, as he does have a degree of depth to him. He makes you question how much of what he told his menteé was genuine and how much was smoke and mirrors. Rauf is a capable instructor with a deep font of love for his pupils. Abbas is spiteful and resentful, but it clearly comes from a place of hurt. Malik is the only character who changes nearly as much as Altaïr, going from disdaining his former friend's lack of care and wisdom as the cause of his brother's death, to understanding and appreciating his redemption and healing himself. The two other Rafiq's make entertaining and enlightening conversations, especially Jabal, the Rafiq of Acre. The Templars are better here than in any later game in the series. They present valid and reasonable arguments to counter Altaïr's initial absolutist perspective, and his resolve becomes increasingly frayed as his story goes on because of this. The cities gradually get worse the longer you go through it. You can notice more drunks and lunatics as you get further into the game, and by the last sequence in Jerusalem, they populate almost every other alley. Garnier de Naplouse, Talal, and William de Montferrat stand out as particularly strong Memory Corridors, and stay in my head rent-free. As a man who was raised Roman Catholic and struggles continuously with faith, Abu'l Nuqoud and Sibrand's brief dying words on sexuality and its suppression in major religions (in Abu'l's case) and how religions can limit humanity and prevent us from achieving our species' full potential (via Sibrand) really opened my mind and also did make me question things. The rest all make good points too, but these are the ones that I remember most. The point is, this level of quality is never replicated in the series. The gameplay was able to be trivialized, yes. But, I still think one should try to play it more intelligently, as you can get fun and engaging fights that truly test your knowledge of the game's mechanics. You have over a dozen actions in combat, and you should use them for fun. It is a game after all. That said, I don't remember who said it but it rings true, "When presented with the option, gamers will trivialize a game even at the expense of enjoyment." The music and atmosphere also take top spot for me. The different color palettes and designs make every area feel different and engaging. Jesper Kyd's overall composition combined with the visuals make the larger world feel vast and unforgiving, while each city feels either: dark and bleak (Acre), prosperous and secure (Damascus), and exceedingly important, yet filled with secrets as old as the city itself (Jerusalem). Only the Ezio Trilogy really compares in this department. Sorry for rambling on for so long, but I really do love this game and the series up until Syndicate. It's one of the reasons I got into history, and it inspired me to seek my own answers in the world. Not just buy into what everyone else tells me is true. It taught me more critical thinking skills than actual high school education. I don't know if that is sad or a credit to the game itself. Either way, thanks for coming to my TED Talk. Have a cookie or something. Fun Fact: Al Mualim is voiced by Peter Renaday (who voiced Splinter in the 80s TMNT), while Carlos Ferro voices the Damascus Rafiq (he would later go on to voice Leonardo da Vinci in the Ezio Trilogy, and Dominic Santiago in Gears of War the same year AC came out).

I should also mention Phil Proctor as Warren Vidic is a treat in my opinion. He serves as a modern epitome of the Templars and shows both how much they have changed, and where they stayed the same. He is an intelligent and capable thinker who challenges Desmond's beliefs in a way none of the later games develop on. It's saddening, as Desmond could have been more interesting had he had Vidic or maybe Daniel Cross (if he had been shown in an actual game rather than just a comic and less than ten minutes of screentime in 3) to bounce ideas off of and wax philosophical over just talking and being "the main character". I don't hate Desmond, but they really should have had Vidic as a more present character to make Desmond shine in his development. In reality, he just talks to people about things and he seems to become more competent. But, that's never truly put to the test. It makes the cool setup in the first game fall flat on its face in my opinion. Which is a shame.

@Connor Purnell not a problem you have a great thought process and this series of games can be rather provoking in discussion and diatribe. Always searching for a new take on the AC series glad to see one as refined and well crafted as yours.

I finished the game yesterday for the first time, and I have some thoughts about it. -I really liked the story, it was kinda cliché, but I still enjoyed it, and Altair's progression was satisfying -I liked the combat for the first few hours but at the end of the game where every enemy was heavily armored and took multiple parrys to kill, I just ran past everyone. I loved the enemy variety tho! One thing I don't like in newer titles like Black Flag, is that you have only four types of soldiers, each of them copied in the thousands and occasionally given a new hat and a recolored outfit to fit the country. -The stealth was in a very early stage here and it feels like it. I miss the hiding spot, corner, ledge and non clunky air assassinations so much! -This was one of the few Ac games where I liked modern day even if it's just a walking simulator. Even tho I've got Desmond's story spoiled real hard, because I played Rogue before and in the first few hours, the game tells you that Desmond is very much dead. -I was one of the 17 people who actually didn't have problem with the slower parkour. -I'm never going to 100% this game. I don't know who thought that putting houndreds of flags scattered around the world, without any maps or hints to find them, but he is a psychopath. I was a fun experience over all, but it DID age.

Just spam the heavy attack for one hit kills on all enemies. The only enemies who can block a few of the heavy hits are the armored soldiers and knights, but they still die in one hit once you break their gaurd. The weak enemies in gambesons are all insta kill. Or, just time the counters right for every enemy.

I just typed five paragraphs, but RU-vid ate it all. I can't be bothered to do this again, please just see my comment on AskYourUncle's retrospective to understand why covering this game without doing extensive research is such folly. It has all the same information I was going to give you since your video is functionally identical to his. Everyone reaches the same conclusions when presented with the same set of extremely limited information that the game gives you. I'm sorry I can't give you personalized assistance like I usually do with everyone else, this app is the lowest tier of dumpster fire on the internet. I know this is the most inconvenient possible way to learn, but I promise it will radically transform your relationship with this game, and possibly the whole series

I’m sorry, but I’m not going to scour a different person’s video with 800 comments to find yours. My intention was never to place the game under a microscope and come to some groundbreaking revelation. My channel is simply a place for me to log my thoughts on games that I play for my own benefit, and if anybody else gets something out of that, then that’s pretty cool. I’m sorry it wasn’t for you.
