Nixon tried to get whatever immunity was necessary to cover his ass (never got to the point of absolute immunity), but he lost in court. Then the tapes were out, public sentiment was against him, and senators of his own party had the backbone to tell him to get out or be put out. None of this absolves Trump, but we have to remember that every bit of his malfeasance is facilitated by the Republican party, especially those in positions of power in the Senate and the courts (and of course the people who bankroll them).

Yes, it is important to set a precedent for the scope of Presidential immunity. No, it is not acceptable to delay a decision as to this particular case when it is “beyond a reasonable doubt” that actions as part of a conspiracy to certify fake electors in some of the swing states are PRIVATE not OFFICIAL and outside the scope of immunity.
