Great analysis, and confirms my experience using both bikes. I'll add that with the Echo bike, it "feels" easier to maintain a given rpm than it does to maintain the same rpm on the assault bike, like the Echo is on a lower drag factor( if it was adjustable). On a min on/min off workout, I'm consistently getting more calories "burned" with the Echo bike at the same rpm for both bikes

sounds like it's the same situation regarding a "10" damper setting on the concept 2 erg vs a "4". In rowing, we used a 3 or 4, and in crossfit people rarely seem to go that low. The amount of work done isn't different regardless of the damper setting.

I'm wondering if all the Assault-style bikes are created equal. I've watched some videos and see that some seem to be about twice as hard as others for the same RPM. At a recent RBC Training Ground try-out involving top tier athletes, the best performance using an Assault Bike, was only 80 RPM for the final minute while averaging just 76 RPM for the final three minutes. Yet, for the Rogue Echo Hammer Challenge, a couple of men managed 84 RPM for five minutes! In a recent RU-vid video, Will Tennyson (who can squat 500 lb. and Bench 350 lb.) could only manage 88 RPM for 30 seconds. Conversely, on another video, I saw a guy sitting casually on his Assault Bike just twiddling his thumbs at 65 RPM. On my Assault-style bike, without using my arms, I have to powerfully dig down to each side at 65 RPM (I can squat over 400 lb.). I asked a trainer about this, and was told that there were two very different gear ratios used in the design and manufacture of these kinds of bikes at the Taiwan factories: one was for the first of such bikes (i.e., the Lamar Airforce of which my Northern Lights Airforce was derived from) and the other was for the modern Assault Bike which uses the Schwinn AD4/Evo Comp gear ratio. He thought that maybe this could cause mix-ups at the factory.

Great Video! I was considering both of these bikes. I decided to go with the Assault Bike Classic because (1) I can upgrade to the AB Pro console which has BT and Ant+ connectivity (2) The Assault Bike is a little smaller and will fit better in my small home gym. Also Assault Fitness seems like a company that is going to provide parts for these bikes for many years to come.

Great video from what I took the rouge is better built and more accurate because the fans have barely any lag time. I’ve only road a bike 3 times now but I’m looking to replace some of my running days with a lower impact session. If I understood correctly please let me know I care more about accuracy than anything.

Hi, Could you do an experiment for me?: I want to compare my Northern Lights Air Force Dual Action Cycle fan bike to a Concept2 Bikeerg. On separate days, when you're fully rested, pedal one bike as hard as you possibly can for 60 seconds. Then on the other day, go as hard as you possibly can on the other bike for 60 seconds. For the Bikeereg, tell me the calories, distance and avg. watts. For the fan bike, tell me how many pedal revolutions you managed along with the indicated calories burned. On the fan bike, be sure to just use your legs only. Note: The Northern Lights has heavier handles, and I was told it was harder than the classic assault bike even though it has the same design.
