In this review, we compare the AssaultRunner Elite to the TrueForm Trainer. These are both manual treadmills that don’t have motors and don’t require electricity to use. While they have a lot of similarities, they have some differences that we think will help you determine the better fit for you.
As far as similarities, the AssaultRunner and Trainer can handle a lot of use and you can run as fast as you want on them. You control the speed of the belt with your legs, rather than keeping up with a set pace like on motorized treadmills. Each model can take some getting used to if you’re new to manual treadmills, so keep that in mind.
They’re both similar in size and weight. Neither model folds up, but they can be moved around when needed. They both weigh around 300 lbs so they’re heavy and might be hard for some people to move. There is a grab bar at the rear of each deck to lift to engage the front wheels when you need to move either machine, though.
The AssaultRunner Elite and TrueForm Trainer handle up to 400 lbs of user weight. They both have 17” wide rubber slat belts and steel construction, too.
How each treadmill feels to run on is where they are different. The TrueForm has a shallower curve to the deck which helps promote proper running mechanics, but the belt in general feels harder to get moving than the Assault.
Overall, both are excellent options if you’re in the market for a manual treadmill, but we think the AssaultRunner Elite as well as its little brother, the AssaultRunner Pro, are better options for the majority of people because they’re easier to run on. The TrueForm Trainer and TrueForm Runner are better if you want a treadmill to help correct your gait and if you want a customizable belt that comes with turf or rubberized track that the TrueForm Runner can be purchased with.

Please note, to get the same results that from the Assault Runner that TrueForm is trying to claim (better running form), all you really need to do is raise the back end of the Assault Runner by sticking a 1x6 piece of wood under the back feet. From there you can adjust it more or less to force more effort or less, with the adjustable feet.. I am a ex-NFLer (WR), who knows how to run, own the Assault Runner, and love it. I also have two full D1 scholarship athletes (Football and Track) and we have comps seeing who can run the fastest. These TMs are awesome.

Can you please compare proform carbon T7, Horizon T101, with an older model of Nordic track, the model T7.0S. Both are semi commercial foldable tread mills, comparable in specs with 2.6, 2.5 and 2.75 CHP machines respectively. Great detailed comparison videos, across brands and within brands. We especially like the "best of" categories. We regularly check for updates. Thank you!

Would this be good for leisurely walking while watching TV? Or would this manual treadmill require too much attention that we won’t be able to watch tv while walking. Our motorized treadmill jammed and threw my husband off the treadmill so now I’m thinking a manual treadmill might be better. Thanks

Great question! I would say that the Assault is a little bit easier to walk on and zone out while watching TV. It's also easier to get the belt on the Assault moving so you'll be able to keep a steady pace a little bit simpler than the TrueForm

This was great, though I think the AssaultRunner Pro model might have been a closer match for comparing to the TrueForm shown here. The Elite is a step higher up in the line.

Thanks for watching! We were thinking the same thing but didn't have the AssaultRunner Pro at the time of filming. We have it in our studio now though so that might be a good comparison we can create in the future.

Which one is best for longer runs for experienced runners? Also, which one is closest to the feeling of running on the road?

I think the TrueForm feels closer to running outside because the Assault's belt moves very easily and can even be hard for some people to control the speed, at least at first. Both treadmills are great for longer runs though, they're built like tanks that can handle a lot of use.

I would never buy a Trueform again. Terrible customer service. Console failed in the first year. Took months to get a new one sent (send an email on Monday they respond on Wednesday, reply within five minutes to that email, they respond the following Monday). Second console failed in four months. sent multiple emails not response. Tried calling, got a automated answer that just hung up on me. Finally used their "chat" function on their website. Company emailed me a couple times then stopped responding. Go with any company but Trueform. One would expect excellence due to cost but to be the case.
