Since attaining independence in 1960, Mali has experienced 5 coups d’etat. Two of these happened in 2020 and 2021, in a space of just nine months. They were both led by the same man, Colonel Assimi Goita, who is now the interim President of the country.

Military regimes often start off well. The problem is that as time goes on, they become more totalitarian and corrupt. This has happened many times in Africa's history. I'm ok with a military government being given a fixed-term mandate (e.g., to get rid of terrorists), but once that mandate is over they should hand over to civilians, or at least let the courts decide whether or not to extend their mandate.

While I’m no fan of constant coups and instability, African nations have a right to be angry at France. I don’t blame them for wanting the French out of their countries. France should have to approach these nations from the same position as everyone else.

I am not in support of him handing over power too soon. He should not let ECOWAS or the UN and their allies force him into a premature handover. Mali is a sovereign nation, the people know what is best for them, they shouldn't be dictated to. France should go back across the Atlantic to manage its own internal affairs
@abdullenoir1792
@abdullenoir1792 8 месяцев назад
If he agreed to hand power to a civilian gov’t after a period of time, then he should respect that agreement. Wouldn’t in fact a handover to civilian gov’t BE respecting the Malian people and their sovereignty? Listen, Africans have justifiable reasons to dislike France and its policies. But let’s not let that antipathy cloud our judgement and prevent us from holding these coup leaders accountable. These leaders should respect their pledges to facilitate a transition to civilian rule and democracy. After all they didn’t gain the support of the people by pledging to become autocrats did they?

Thanx a million Tatenda. Very informative. I think 🇲🇱 junta president Goita is doing just fine. No progress is achieved until and unless they deal with terrorism first. His principles and objectives are quite strong 💪. Positive transformation will definitely happen in Mali 🇲🇱 and all those who have similar sentiments.

African countries have had lots of military governments since the 1960s. They can be as corrupt and inefficient as any civilian government and are not a long-term solution. I agree that someone like Goita is needed in Mali right now, but not forever.

I doubt that there’s anyone that would argue that there are Corruption , It’s not Limited to Africans politicians and to be pushing that false narrative is Misleading.However To Address your point Miltary leaders have been around from the 1960’s And western countries been Manipulating ,backing and supporting those said military leaders you Mentioned.you mentioned Corruption You do realize the countries that corrupt military leaders have there Back accounts in?When One looks at western countries look at What they have been doing to Haiti 🇭🇹 ..

@@siphomogale779 you are right. I don't trust them but there was lack of leadership in Mali and the country has no direction. Whether he end being a success or failure will be judged by time. Africa is burning itself to ground with dictators, coups, civil wars and failure to have any semblance of people power. Africans have no democracy so no voices are heard but warlords, Africa is dying because of failure of Africans not the Boogeyman from past. Stop pointing fingers at ghost look at the actual monsters in the room, p.s. these monsters are African yet do not hear the words of the Africans they serve. You are foolish

2 Chronicles. Chapter 14 New King James Version Shows what ALMIGHTY GOD did for King Asa (though outnumbered) back in our past ancestors days: ADA Reigns over Judah 14 So Abijah rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. THEN Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet for ten years. (Asa Reigns in Judah) 2 Asa did what was GOOD and right in the eyes of the LORD his GOD, 3 for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images. 4 He commanded Judah to seek the LORD GOD of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment. 5 He also removed the places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him. 6 And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest. 7 Therefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and make walls around them, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our GOD; we have sought HIM, and HE has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8 And Asa had an Army OF three hundred thousand from Judah who carried shields and spears, and from Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand men who carried shields and drew bows; all these were mighty men of valor. 9 THEN Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them WITH an army OF a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah. 10 So Asa went out against him, and they set the troops in battle array in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 And Asa CRIED OUT to the LORD his GOD, and said, “LORD, it is nothing for YOU to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; Help us, O LORD our GOD, for we rest on YOU, and in YOUR name we go against this multitude. O LORD, YOU are our GOD; do not let man prevail against YOU!” 12 So the LORD struck the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. 13 And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So the Ethiopians were overthrown, and they could not recover, for they were broken before the LORD and HIS army. And they carried away very much spoil. 14 Then they defeated all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the LORD came upon them; and they plundered all the cities, for there was exceedingly much spoil in them. 15 They also attacked the livestock enclosures, and carried off sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
