I feel like in my experience, Parisians will respond to me in English even when I try to speak French. It was kinda frustrating and they would seem kinda annoyed of me.

Life in Paris is so so good when you have money :) And Paris isn’t the only city of France and the mentality depends of the city... Parisians are often depressed, stressed etc.. but they are open... They can be really friendly in summer. In the North you can find more racists ppl but they are more happy also there are more “poor” ppl (they have a small work and they don’t care ab it) so they have less of stress like it exist for Parisians. In the South the mentality is more a Mediterranean mentality like italy etc... They are more friendly, everytime happy (It’s often hot and they see more the sun than Parisian haha) it’s very good in summer but ppl speak less english there and there are more racist but like every country ^^ I recommend you Marseille or Bretagne, maybe Nice or Lyon or ... Corse and LaRochelle ^^ ... And I think that life isn’t expensive if you live there

Paris is overrated go to Versailles. The smaller cities of France 🇫🇷 are much cleaner and cheaper. I studied on the Spanish/ French border.

Hello :) I live in Paris and I want to give some explanations about what is told in the video. First, everything that is said is absolutely true: it's dirty, expensive and people are rude. But I kind of think that the reasons given are not... well in fact a lot of things can be explained because: 1) there are a lot of people 2) it still a tiny city compared to other capitals so the density of population is crazy 3) its the most attractive city for tourist So a lot of people means lot of rubbish concentrated in a little space and more people there are, more disrespectful there are. But yeah I admit that French are also not very respectful especially when they are stressful and irritated because of their day (current in Paris). This is also why they are rude, because they are stopped in the street all the time, we ask them to give money, wanted to swindle them, to get their phone number... And the reasons why they, for the most of them, don't answer to you when you try to talk to them is... because they just can't. The truth about that is that French people are not good at all in English, compared to Germans for example, and nobody even know WHY! They are not snob, they don't want to forced you to speak French, they just don't understand you or don't know what to answer, they are shy and ashamed about their accent, especially for the elderly. Especially if they are in the rush. I hope you could have understand what I wanted to explain... my English isn't perfect as I said ! Bisous 🖤

My husband is French. We live in the US. We travelled to France twice. He warned me that some French people can be harsh regarding speaking French. The first time we saw this was when we travelled to Paris with another couple that only spoke English. His niece picked us up from the airport. I don't remember the discussion but she responded to the other couple 'we speak French here'. It was my first time meeting her and it took a long while before I considered her a nice person. I'm learning French now. I'm not sure if I will try and speak French the next time we visit her.

I heard all these assumptions about Paris before I ever visited. But I know people can have very different perceptions and experiences so I decided to keep an open mind when I visited. All of the things you have said ARE true! Lol I am conversational in French and was excited for the opportunity to practice my French but I found Parisian to be quite RUDE when I asked a question. Even from people whose jobs it was to be at an info booth or to work in an airport etc. When trying to get directions to a Cabaret show I had a guy AT THE INFORMATION booth say to me, “This is France. And we speak FRENCH here” I was in true disbelief!

It’s interesting because I grew up in Paris and now live in Vienna, and with retrospect I really don’t have the same experience as you...🤭 First thing I would say is that it’s not as dirty as New-York, especially the metro ! And yes it can be crowded but I keep in mind that Paris is the most visited city in the world so you can’t have tourism without business 😞 As a Parisian I avoid certain places at certain times (sad but true)... And I think the new generation is getting better at English and actually loves to speak it (my foreign friends are always welcomed by my Parisian friends who always make an effort to speak English even though their accent is not perfect) ⭐️ But as you said everyone has got their own experience !

What I didn’t like about Paris was how the people act like you have to speak French to order simple things like a croissant. & when riding the metro train it wasn’t crowded but people were standing all in my personal space!

I went Paris in 1989, it was a horrid experience. I am happy to travel to Europe but not Paris. The people were offensive. I have been to Barcelona and Amsterdam and loved it. So they anti English then, don't worry I won't be visiting smelly France anytime soon.

I’ve been living in Paris for already 7 years now. In many other cities it’s much cleaner I think . C’est pas pour rien que Paris a cette réputation d’être sale. Le metro à Madrid, Londres ou même New York est plus propre et les gens en géneral sont plus respectueux. Et d’après moi, c’est pas complètement faux cette réputation de Paris!

Yeah Paris is a dirty city, when you go out touristics areas you will see how dirty is this city. French people are not proud of that but Paris is one of the most dirty city of France. Why french people don't like to speak english? For several reasons: we french people not appreciate a lot english people, England and France have been in war for more one thousand years...Because we have an awful accent when speaking english and really shameful about that. Because when you go in another country we consider that you have to make some effort to try to learn a little bit the country's language and that is higly appreciated.
