ASTERISM - RISING MOON MV Reaction  

It is pretty amazing how close this performance was to the MV, especially the fact that Haruka apparently wrote this (and performed it) while she was only playing guitar for 2 years. I have read on multiple places that she started playing at age 10 and in this video: - Haruka (guitar) is 12, almost 13 this was the same month as Haruka's birthday - Miyu (bass) is 13 - Mio (drums) is 15, almost 16 this was the same month as Mio's birthday as well They litterally blow the majority of adult bands out of the water from a technical standpoint at such young ages even though Haruka wasn't playing guitar for that long (not sure when the 2 brothers started to play their instruments). There is a reason why people like her, LiSa-X, Senri Kawaguchi and Kanade Sato (both on drums) are considered "prodigies". I am not the biggest fan of that word, but how else would you describe them and that's not to take anything away from Miyu and Mio, I would happily put them in that camp as well, Miyu is probably my favourite bass player at the moment and he was already showing that off his skills at age 13.

@@MaartenT 💯. and "prodigy" is the right word. problem with most "prodigies" is that most of them disappear almost as soon as they're discovered .... they either become session players and are otherwise never heard from again, _or_ just aren't cut out for the business/lifestyle. 🤷‍♂ from what i've read, i want to say that Mio started with drums at 5 , and Miyu on bass at 7 ; and apparently guitar isn't Haruka's first instrument (i remember her talking about first tinkering with drums/piano at 5 or 7 or something). All 3 of them attended Yamaha Music Institute. And yes, your timeline does match up with everything i've read as well. sadly, I feel like it's easy to overlook Mio ; but he's _deceptively_ good. his sense of timing is top-notch (there's not many drummers today , certainly not of the current generation, that don't use in-ear click tracks) ; if you're not paying attention, it's easy to miss his timing changes while getting distracted by all the bells and whistles coming from Haruka and Miyu. he's not flashy ; but he also never over-plays -- always just exactly what the song needs .... his brilliance is hidden beneath his subtlety ; and just seems to be his style. that being said, i think if he started going beast-mode every so often , that would certainly give the band more punch that could help really get them over (in terms of getting more attention). But yeah, Haruka is currently my favorite guitarist of the moment , and same goes for Miyu. The only thing holding Mio back for me is i would like to see him expand his playing a bit , though what he does is well more than adequate (Vlad from Jinjer currently holds my top spot for current drummers -- he's got that certain slick pizzazz about his style that's hard to come by).

Japanese rock music didn't start recently, it existed concurrently with western society for over 60 years. People around the world just didn't know they existed because there were no communication tools like the Internet back then. And many people didn't know they existed because Western labels didn't sign sales contracts with Japanese musicians for the world market, effectively ignoring them and not promoting them. Asterism and Nemophila are simply the children and grandchildren of the parent generation of Japanese musicians who were buried in those Japanese markets. There is just another rock market on the planet that has existed for 60 years. It's just that the spread of the Internet since the millennium has opened the door for that information distribution now.
