Quite hideous, hopefully it was produced knowing it was a press car, going to have quirks to be worked out, and was going to be abused. Would hope customer's vehicles received more love.
Fantastic Jim and Terry, that car was determined to break you both. That's why you're the best in the business, striving for perfection. Well earned rest after this one, thank you both 😀
Good day! That interior ..... what a place. It's a sort of styling detour that has been going on with other cars of this quality. Even Porsche has gone the route of applying bright red decals on some of their models. I have seen neon green in some Astons and Porsches as well. That interior would have been epic in a deep blood red - even a deep green would have been less goping.
Mate, you have my upmost respect. You've started from scratch, believed in what you were doing. Built a new purpose built unit. Taken on Terry. Who I love too..... And this whole thing with Aston Martin, you've handled with total professionalism. I applaud you. I've been watching your vids for around 18 months and thoroughly enjoy every single one. I wish you every success and hope one day you will employ more minions (😘} and have a bigger and better unit while you're sat at home editing videos for us 👍
Jim, good day. Curious, where did you receive your training? Just curious of the path you've taken to get you to this point in life. Maybe a VLOG down the road. Love the results of your work. Thanks for sharing. Chip.
He is self taught for the most part I believe. Where being unique and not following others methods is the best way to get to where many others aren't. Hope that answers your question :)
More Fantastic work there Jim & Terry, You sure had your hands full with all those factory inflicted marks. Once again though you got the car looking better than it ever it would have done and it looked great. A wonderful car, keep up the great work guys.
i was a body shop polisher and this kind of work really grates me. no pride in there work. im sure white details can turn it around though. keep up the good work guys
Wow, that car was in a sorry state but as usual a magical turn around! Love how that 5mm polisher makes the iBrid look massive. Remember when the 75 made the LHR15 look huge haha
God damn Jim, what a great job on that one !!! Your the only one I watch until the end of 45 min video just to see the gorgeous job you did on each cars. It is possible for you to share what compound you use the most of time ? Thanks for sharing your passion 😎
Great Video Jim, just goes to show that even a huge price tag doesn’t provide us with anything special from a factory finish. Got to say i thought it was a none metallic paint when the vlog started. Looks great now. Well done guys 👌
From your experience it would be fascinating to hear your opinion on which car manufacturers paint finishing is typically the best / worst... but I'm guessing you couldn't really tell us. Love your work and videos awesome stuff.
Porsche's and the rest of the german finishes (and any other brand that is owned by a German brand, for example Lamborghini) are pretty top notch, everything seems to be somewhat color dependent. What do you think, Jim?
Great job Jim amazing. Question how did you know how much you can cut into the paint to remove the defects? On the small edges on the rear of the car you said you were worried about burning through the paint, do you measure the paint depth or just know from experience? I'd be worried that over time with lots of cutting that the clear coat may be compromised?
Love the vlogs. So easy to watch. I know your stuck feeding us with great content for us hungry viewers/ fans. Would love to see an episode with a classic and single stage paint. New cars seem to be an easy fix? 😀
Great job by yourself and Terry as always! I can fully sympathise with you on this one being an Aston Martin technician, the “finish” is their biggest downfall. Credit to you guys for plugging away, thats how these beautiful cars should look!
Jim the video was brilliant think you need to do some factory training at Aston Martin to help them with the finished product after all its not cheap. Thanks to you and terry again.
Thankyou Jim, for this most informative of videos, I'd hate to think that this was the reason you had to drop your replay of the detail of the original black/purple..... This one has done 4,500 after all..... Must be something to do with the miles to get those impressive pigtails.....
@@marcjarvis3975 - no ideas. It would be good if Jim could share the detail of that particular polisher if possible. It looks like a prototype from the manufacturer which is why I think Jim hasn't said anything about it yet.
Roy Wilson thanks for the reply! I agree. I’ve found a unit that’s very similar and reasonably priced, just need the pad and plate setup! Come on Jim, spill the beans! 😂😂
Outstanding stuff Jim, such a great job and inspiring stuff to watch. Will you ever do any workshops for us beginners to get some basics skills developed? Also, what do you recommend for removing paint overspray from interior plastics? The back of a seat in my car has some from the previous owner and I've tired clay bar and a magic eraser to no effect! Regards Stew
They use both, in some instance one will work better on certain paints. Koch is awesome, and gets a good finish for such a heavy cut. They also use perfect finish.
This is a great video, showing the defects from the factory should raise some eyebrows, but very common on Astons and other very expensive models, you would expect better for the cost of these cars but at least they keep us busy lol.
Excellent video very nice I follow all your detailing work but I want to see more from you about technieq and how do you chose your pads( or you use just microfiber pads?) your polish or compound, but what I want to see it how do you test pannel to see which tipe of paint do you have to deal whit, and also where the things can go wrong because everybody can see the difference , between good and bad when you the light on the panit, but not everybody can do it( if you understand what I mean). I respect you for what do you do, but I think you can give some more explination about the work on the car than the car it self. I hope you understand me what I want to learn from this channel. Can you make a video to show what can be the difference between one stage polish and perfect. Thank you very much and you do a great job and I hope my message it s not to long. 😁😁😁
Hi Jim quality detail job. Have you any advice on polishing the chrome strips that are fitted around V8 Vantage windows my car has some light scratches. Thanks
Love it Jim. Maybe AM send the cars to where my picasso comes from, sure looks in a similar state. The picasso job is yours if you want as a gift to me lol. Keep it up fellas
Hi Jim. I'm curious as to what kind of mat you're using under the jack? I'm looking for something like that due to profiled driveway stones that make the jack very jerky to operate as the wheels catch in the profile.
Absolute awesome turnaround but what a dull, bland, boring colour! For a moment I thought you had video'd in monochrome when you were doing the paint inspection.😆 Fantastic result in the end but a lot of time and effort put into this one. You'll be charging double whenever a customer looks for a quote on an Aston Martin in future no doubt. Loving the content. Keep up the excellent work.
Great work Jim. Aston should know better and if I ever bought one, I’d insist it was given a new car prep by you first. Maybe you should offer training sessions to their paint inspection chaps
Brilliant video. To pay 200,000 pounds for a vehicle where the paintwork to the average person looks good, but once a professional such as yourself demonstrates the poor workmanship. To have this type of iconic car be allowed to leave the factory in such condition, highlights the standard of Quality Control. I hope the owner highlights this to the manufacturer in his article. Well done from Down Under.
Those sanding marks look a lot like the marks a large "old school" wool buffing pad make before refining. Betcha the geezers at the factory are using them...
Hi Jim, great video, quick question, what mf's do you use for ceramic coating removal that you can just throw away afterwards and don't cost too much ?
It's crazy to think that manufacturers are charging so much for their top end cars and they don't even invest in a couple of people to polish and refine the paint work to it's best. Prestige cars rolling out the factory with the same standard of finish as a family car! 😂 Great end result though 😎
You'd actually be surprised about how many parts from other manufacturers comprise an Aston and how that correlates to build quality. I've seen a few 'no accident' Astons with terrible and inconsistent texture.
I'm always so surprised at the orange peel in paintwork, you would expect it on cheaper cars and paint, but when you're getting to 100k+ for a car, you would expect paintwork to be smoothed out etc.
@@collinhopper7542 Yeah, it's not unusual for manufacturers to swap and share technology through all levels of vehicles. It would be nice to think that if you were buying a car like this it would be unique and bespoke. More than likely going to find a few Ford bits under the bonnet!
@@hdetail Absolutely. I imagine that as the detailing industry grows and people look for these sorts of imperfections, they will have to improve. I always think BMW's paint work has a heavy orange peel finish, looks more like a powder coat in some cases!
So basically when you buy a new Aston take it straight down to White details to get the job done properly,i wonder if Aston have in there paint options the White Details package you could tick. Great video and job you've done.
