Thanks for sharing. Brilliant. Standing ovation. One of my favorite songs I used to skate to in the 80's still going strong. Whoever filmed this is brilliant. I'm curious how they did it. Someone who obviously knows how to film and skate backwards very quickly is my guess, or some kind of RC car on the floor with a Go Pro pointing behind it. Or having a Go Pro strapped to your back, but have a handheld viewfinder on a phone perhaps so you can see what's going on in the viewfinder. You're tracking and moving with them independently, but precisely. Unless you just strapped a Go Pro to your back for hours and then picked the parts that looked the best. Perhaps a bit of all of it. Never seen such amazing footage from a skating rink. Thanks for putting this together. Magical.
@@rollerkingonce Some of the greatest shots I've ever seen. Glad I had my finger on the pulse. I've been doing video editing for 14 years now. Figured it out. Unreal. Keep bringing it. Great stuff. If you ever need any editing advice feel free to reach out, but I think you know what you're doing. Vnj
Not only skating backward & managing camera is challenge, but avoiding collisions... You're skating backwards & passing up those who are in front of you... Amazing... It's like you have eyes in back of your head. If you don't mind me asking: how do you avoid colliding with people in front of you as you're skating backwards & you're focused on looking at those you're filming?
@@Thankful_n_Grateful think of it as playing the piano.. when learning the piano a student realizes pretty quick that left hand doesn't play the same thing as right hand.. all of the sudden a student has to process two different thoughts at the same time with two different outputs. Just like that. Same here. Two different inputs to two different outputs all at once. Filming vs skating backwards while avoiding collision. Lol. I hope this explains it. Thanks
I never thought I would be sitting here at 50 watching newer generations do the same thing we all did back in the day. For those of us who lived at the rink growing up know that feeling you get just walking through the front door. Nothing compares to the rink and the lovely folks that share it.
57 here. We called this the Starlight bounce. Named after the rink we skated at. Raced on the speed team also. I never missed a session. Good to the kids are still enjoying this.
I cried so hard watching this. I spent so many weekends of my youth at the skating rink...and they're still jam skating to the same song 30 years later. This brought back so many fun memories. 💙
my wife recently asked if i wanted to take the kids skating and OH MAN!!!! the nostalgia!!! I immediately bought a pair of skates. No rental mentals here. Started shuffling and got a few old school folks to join and man the memories! My wife now likes to just watch me skate lol there is something about shuffle skating that puts you into a trance.
Similar thing happened to me. Went to a nephews bday party at the skating rink. Instantly brought back memories and bought a pair of skates. Now the whole family goes. Good times.
This rink is in my old home town. It used to be called Universal Skate. Grew up at this rink and the memories of my first kiss live here when they used to do couples skate to a slow song. How I miss the 80's and being a teenager. Glad they're still shuffling. 🙂
Universal skate closed down anywhere from 06-09 i remember going there and the teen club being here the set up looks different from the new paint and decor but you can still see the few remnants of universal skate there there never knocked the old teen club room out instead repurposed it for beginner/children skaters which was kind of smart I didn’t noticed it until a month ago when I went to Astro with my family and it’s was awesome to skate with my siblings even though we’re all getting older the skate culture will forever live in us
So freaking happy to see these kids jam skating to this old beat like this. You either feel it or you don’t. Some songs are just made to skate to and if you’re a skater, it’s your call to the floor. 42 year old woman here and I spent my youth at the rink. This song had the same moves back then!! Well done y’all!
I absolutely LOVE watching skaters do this. It’s so mesmerizing how they just skate in sync together *chef’s kiss* I can’t wait until I learn how to do this. ❤️
this video brought tears, i don't know why this song and skating make me emotional but i miss the weekends being a kid and going to the roller rink and just jamming out. so glad to see this is still happening around the world. makes me so happy. bless the people keeping rinks open.
@@TheCompton2010 January 31st I did. I relive the 80's as if it was like that movie ground hog for the rest of my time here on earth . Every ten years start back over.
Now you kids are doing my generation proud!! We came out with shuffle skating in the late 70's. Seen a lot of video's of shuffle skaters but they add their own twist. You all are keeping it ORIGINAL!!
yeah its nice to see it still around, just kinda sucks that in this video so many are trying to out do each other for dat cred and gram status and wind up skating in each others way. when this skating was first being done, it wasnt about out doing others who were skating, it was about everybody being in sync with each other and skating as one group.
What an awesome petite rink ! Adorable place, they look so happy yet none of them are on their phones, how is that possible? lol I really miss these days skating at one then working at them.
As somebody who tried to learn how to skate and roller blade and never really saw any progress, but DID break my tailbone, I am very impressed with their skills.
I wish I could still skate but no longer can. I have MS now. I showed this to my wife and go this is how we used to do it about 20 yrs ago with about 20 others! She goes those were the days. Excellent video and thanks for reminding me of my younger days, lol!
I completely understand that. I wish I could skate again also but with all my disabilities, chronic pain and broken and crushed bones (from a car accident that I shouldn't have survived, statistically) I'm afraid that I wouldn't even be able to stand on skates let alone skate. But I do enjoy watching all the videos that are on RU-vid nowadays that bring me back to the late 70s and 80s when I was skating all the time, or so it seemed! Thank you to the videographer for this channel and the channel owner (unless they're the same person) but whatever and whoever it takes to put these videos together; thank you so much for bringing me so much joy and good memories! 🛼💜🛼 I'm sending love, light and big healing hugs to all who need it, k💗🕯️🕊️🫂 (In this world filled with so much more hate I think we definitely need to try to find the love in the world again and for our fellow man/woman and since I'm completely disabled I've made it my mission to spread love and light wherever I can!)
I’d be the first to join ya.... our ‘80’s slaking is SUCH a lost art..., my older brother was an awesome shuffler (in local competition, Lol) but it was a moment in time I’d choose first if I could go back to my teen years...... (Epic!)
Roller King Once, I recently took my two teenagers to a local rink, and under the circumstances of skating with masks on, they really had a great time! I will be heading back into the rink once I can afford to purchase a set of freestyle wheels (101A-All Americans). I find the grippy derby wheels much too sticky for my style of skating indoors!
haha RIGHT??? I have watched this particular video several times, and I am always dancing where I sit, lol! I am going skating TONIGHT!!!! OMG I can't wait to get on that floor. I hope they play good music tonight!!
@@brentfields93 yes thank you!! Finally treated myself to new skates!! My old ones from 27 years ago never fit great- new wheels will be here today!!! I'm sssoooo excited like a kid right now!! I am going to go skate tonight!! I was thinking I will try to make a video with my dji osmo action....thaaaaaat would be cool!!! I woke up at 2:30am dreaming about skating!!! Lol
Two guys in the black are smooth…still spin backwards on turns and just turned 50 in July! Word! More drag as well …full out rubber legging!!!! Bring it back! Best times in my life! Still updating Rydell’s at my age! If I ever win the lottery I’ll have one on my property 😎
Go ahead new generation! Super shuffle skate late 70s early 80s Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Chicago Speed Skates & Riedell Classics. We were super shuffling to Rare Earth "Get Ready."
@@anthonytaylor7928 I will definitely check them out, Thanks! I just happens to trip over about 5 or 6 videos when I was searching for a song.... but I didn’t look for more.... I will now though! 👍🏻
eileen, all i saw was a bunch of mini groups trying to out do each other for attention instead of trying to be one group that is in sync. when this skating was introduced, it was about everybody skating in sync as one group, not a bunch of people trying to out do each other only to skate in each others way. its way better when its a one group effort and not a bunch of narcissistics fighting for camera time.
I'm 55 and I've been to that rink a couple of times in the early 90s and will be going back in the next couple of months. Just bought a new pair of skates. I hope they still play the old skate music. The best of times. Miss the 3 or 4 times a week I went skating. Straight outta Winter Haven FL.✌
I remember Sunstate rink in Orlando back in the 70's down the street from Colonial mall. Every so often I take my grandkids skating and yes I can still skate. In Tampa. United Skates and Skateworld
OMG I am going on a trip cross country, taking my skates, stopping at as many rinks as I can , and THIS ONE is on my list of rinks I MUST SKATE!!!! OOoOoOOO I can't waaaaaaiiiiiT! Early 2022!
I grew up in north Alabama in the 70s. The Hatfield family owned a huge complex that had a drive in theater, a huge cement lake, and a skating rink. I loved those times...
This really brings back memories😢🙂. I lived in Orlando during the 90s . I was in highschool. I worked at a skating rink in Orlando. This may be the one. Joe Valle was the manager.
I started skating at this Rink (used to be Universal Skate Center) when i was 7years old, joined the speed team and never looked back, i would come here several times a week, jamming and eventually worked there just to keep skates on my feet as much as possible! I loved being in the DJ booth watching the pro dish it out, I LOVE THIS SONG and miss my shuffle skating days! Thanks for sharing these vids! I feel 17 again!
By far some of the best camera work I have seen in a long time. Flowed with the skaters and produced a clip that is first rate. More like this one please...
It is pouring down raining an I can't cut the grass now. I came in the house and turn this on and now I am cleaning my kitchen going back and fourth on the floor like I am skating when I was 14 15 17 years old !!! This damn kitchen will be spotless when I m done. Great pick you up type of music !!!!
I love skating as much as anyone...but this statement is evidence that our educational system is BROKEN! This virus has killed more people than were killed in WWII! If that's of no interest to you...ROll On!
@@Twillis600 CDC 1.35 million people die every year on roadways worldwide...and your point is? Lockdown all roads to save the 3,700 per day that die? The education system is not the problem here, it's basic arithmetic.
No reply would not be to close all the roads. My response would be to get all of the uneducated, illiterate people off of the roads, that can’t read the traffic signs, ex: 55 MPH is not equal to 85 MPH! See...it’s still a lack of education, comprehension, respect for others, inability to understand science and basic common sense!
@@Twillis600 great idea! Speaking of respect for others...while you're on lockdown...make a difference and get working on your road project proposal to save those millions of people per year...the rest of us will....live their lives, enjoying freedom, free enterprise, and continue having a blast doing it!
People are “Purging” themselves and I guess they’re enjoying it...that is until they have to get on a respirator, take up a bed from someone that was trying to do the right thing, and wearing their PPE. I think people that refuse to wear PPE, take the advice of doctors and scientists should be refused care, when they contract the virus. Reminds me of the surfers that get a leg torn off, by a shark. They are quick to say - they can’t wait to go back. I think we should let the shark finish the job the next time. Why don’t you and people of your elk, sign a waiver saying you won’t seek medical treatment when you contract the virus?
I used to shuffle skate in contests ,I was really good 20 years ago lol I miss skating! Having my rhino boots with laser plates with vanguard wheels and Hartford gold-plated bearings
Man this is just completely awesome! I’ve been watching & watching all these rink videos and I’m smiling so hard and felt I’ve not smiled like this in years. Thanks
I used to shuffle skate there waaaaay back in the day when it was called Universal skating center. It's also where I learned how to DJ 30 years ago. I Love that place! Cool video!
This was me back then in the 80’s all night skates 12 hours back to back! The ONLY time I felt free from my parents.. and all night skating with my BFF and my BF.. great times I know all these ROUTINES!! 💕🎶🎶❤️❤️
Miss this so much here in the uk... used always use quads(Bauer turbos) in the 90’s. But switched to inline due to playing hockey. Used to love the atmosphere. No stress, no racial tension, just great music and great people
WOW. Such great skaters !! I used to skate every Friday with my friend...now many years later..I cannot afford to break a hip. So I will just sit and enjoy the show. Good job everyone !!!
My daughter(6) and I go to one of the locations in Hillsborough. We love it. Twice a week we skate and have some fun together. She is getting really good from taking the classes. We started in October- she started lessons in November- and she was bumped up to Red class a few weeks ago. She loves it and now wants to keep going to learn artistic skating and do competitions. She can wait to get into Blue class to start learning some jumps.
Man I remember those days as a kid in the 80’s. Every Saturday like religion at the skate rink with all the gang. We had so much fun. I’d probably fall on my a** now. 😂
I skated at the Coliseum on Orange Avenue in Orlando growing up. We skated to alot of Motown music-- it was awesome. We did then what they call the shuffle skate now.
I like astros. I go to Semoran Skateway mainly because their old school jams are on Saturday. Haven't been to Astros because theirs is on Wednesdays. I'm still learning how to shuffle skate in line with others
