ASU v.s. Tennessee State University - John Merritt Classic - 5th Quarter - 2015 

With all due respect, if any adult with some remote amount of musical training listened to this battle, there is only one conclusion you can come to. The Aristocrats clearly out performed Alabama State, hands down. The Hornets were buzzing but many those Hornets were buzzing wrong notes. Tennessee State Aristocrat of Bands were as well rehearsed as anyone could possibly imagine. Their intonation, articulation, and musical balance was impeccable. The tubas alone were beyond impressive. To get 26 tubas to play with such precise clarity and such a full, Dark African round sound is priceless. Many other HBCU bands will brag and boast but if you have to face The Aristocrats, you'd better come firing on all cylinders. I'm an Aristocrat from the early 80's, first chair/section leader French horn. Like all Aristocrats past and present we are more critical of ourselves then any other HBCU Band in the Nation. Believe me, this season, these cats are going to make life difficult for any band that they face. Alabama State, my advice to you is the same as last year, purchase an Easy Steps To The Band book and take your ass home and practice, a lot. Regardless of how long or loud you play a wrong note, it is still wrong. Peace!

the consistent level that has been given from TSU is back to it's old days. I am so impressed with the balance (which has always been a regular) with the power that I have not heard from the days of the NCAT battles, WOW. They are clean and mad as hell which I love in a bands sound!!!

This was a great battle! Song selections alone! Awesome, I hate I wasn't there in person.

AlaSU was more aggressive, but some parts of a few of their arrangements sounded like they wanted to fall a part. TnSU wasn't as powerful as AlaSU, but they were powerful enough to not get outright blown away...and they sounded more put together than AlaSU to me. IMO, TnSU won

TSU definitely took this. They had the intensity, technique, power, and were clean the entire 5th. ASU gotta clean it up

Don't get me wrong I can hear Asu improvements, book wise and sound wise. But it was over when TSU played Blessed.

Man, I was trying to stay fair, but GOODNESS when TnSU played Blessed......its hard to come from that....God I'd kill to play in any of those HBU's. ASU came with it...best they could...but....BLESSED! Shout out to both Bands!!! But TnSu got it....

Didn't stay for 5th qt. But during the game both bands had distinctly different sounds. TSU was classic, ASU was explosive. Both were entertaining in their own right. However it's early & both teams need to work on keeping their lines straight and formations tight.

I wish the would join the MEAC so bad!! But I know traveling would be the issue, so I think all the conference members should put up cash in their payouts to cover them in this. Hell we welcomed Savanah State University!!!! We need on other powe house to balance this out with a great academic program also.
