Even though we had a quick hands-on time with the brand-new ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip (let’s go with Vibe CX34 from here on out) at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, those impressions can be misleading. Between the noise, the crowds, and basic exhaustion, it is easy to misread a new device. And it can happen on either side of the coin, too.
In the case of something like the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook in 2020, I was absolutely enamored with that device while out at CES 2020. Once it arrived, the sheen wore off and all the shortcomings of that ambitious Chromebook became quickly apparent. Fortunately, the case is just the opposite with the ASUS Vibe CX34, leaving me even more impressed with this Chromebook now that it is here in the office than I was at CES.

The whole pushing the Chromebook for cloud gaming is ridiculous when you consider Google discontinued Stadia last month.

@@TaylorABell Nah I agree, more cloud gaming platforms is great but Google have control of the Chromebook platform and had Stadia ready made to push until they decided to kill it.
@angelopebs
@angelopebs Год назад
@@MarvMavro stadia was honestly the best in terms of how they handled the compression and connection. I'd argue the model was the best too albeit uncertain regarding sustainability. I was the only cloud service where you could buy games and stop. Where it fell really flat was the game selection which is one of the biggest factors. Such a shame. Despite the hate it got, it really served me well and refunded ALL the games I bought. Worth it. I already have game pass because of Xbox but if I didn't I'd def lean towards GeForce now because of the seamless mouse and keyboard support.
@MarvMavro
@MarvMavro Год назад
@@angelopebs mate, I'm still salty as fuck. Stadia was brilliant but like you said, let down by game selection. Shame that Chromebooks are being pushed by Google to advertise how good they are for cloud gaming. The absolute irony.
@michaelcorcoran8768
@michaelcorcoran8768 Год назад
I mean I don't have any problem with them offering I refresh rate screens or RGB etc.... But the timing is pretty hilarious. Sure a lot of these products were in development long before stadia kicked the bucket. But there's nothing inherently wrong with having a higher fresh rate display or RGB keyboard. I don't do any cloud gaming really, But those features would be compelling for regular use cases as well.

Still waiting on a decent sale for this Chromebook. I would be happy to pay 500-600 for it but it's to close to the Dragonfly to purchase at full price. If you are going to pay 800+ you might as well go all the way for the best Chromebook available.

This seriously is the first non 3:2 that I'm excited about. 2 reasons. I absolutely love the look of it. It doesn't look like some off the shelf macbook clone. The accents and highlights are awesome. Reason 2: This isn't gonna be a runaway hit, so that means in a few months with patience, you'll probably start to pick this up around $500. I just can't wait to hear all the full details about the screen. Does it measure up? That's the only thing that has me not putting it on my must buy list right now. Also this year I said last year this time that I was gonna put the dragonfly on my Christmas wish list. I pulled that back and told my wife not to get me it. I was too upset about the demise of Stadia and didn't want to send anymore money Google way. This though, I really like the first looks. If Steam comes to this full on this year, insta buy!

My 16/512 is arriving Thursday and I'm very excited about it. I use my Chromebooks at work exclusively (and have a "real" gaming computer at home), so they're task oriented first, and fun second (my job is entirely on or entirely off, so there's downtime). I already have Acer 516GE, which I love, but have some issues with. I didn't realize how much I used the touchscreen until I couldn't, it's too big for me to be able to conveniently carry around (because I move around a lot), and, despite it being high quality, it feels a little flimsy after coming off a Pixelbook. As far as gaming, I installed Steam and had some success running the kind of games I usually play (MMOs, GTA), but because the graphics memory and system memory was shared, some games would crash when the system ran out of memory. I feel like the 16gb will help a lot with that. On paper, this Asus seems like it'll check off a lot of boxes for me and I'm super excited to get my hands on it.
@robertcoleman7071
@robertcoleman7071 Год назад
I also have the Acer 516 GE and love it. I don't game on it but love it as my daily driver. I hate grey backlit keys like the Asus has CX34. My Microsoft Surface laptop has grey backlit keys and in the light you have to turn off. I also don't have the need for touch screen nor a pen. The Acer 516 GE is currently $449 at Best Buy.

how you liking it?
@brennanadcock8885
@brennanadcock8885 Год назад
@@SpinneretteAlex I like it a lot. The build quality is great (I was replacing a Pixelbook) and it runs wonderfully. As far as gaming, most older games run well. GTA probably runs reasonably well (probably 30-40fps), and some MMOs work very well (SWTOR) especially. FFXIV did a little better than GTA. It took me a while, but I finally figured out the whole point of Steam on Chrome. It works like this: you have your "home" gaming PC with all your games installed (you can also add non-Steam games to your library, which is important). So you leave your home computer on, then activate Steam on your Chromebook. When you are away, you can stream any game in your Steam library (even non-Steam games) to your Chromebook. You can tell it's still in beta, but it works surprisingly well. I've even been able to stream just using my phone's data. They haven't done a good job explaining that streaming this way is the point, but it makes sense when you play it this way.

Hello from India...keep up the good work!! One thing I miss in most Chromebook reviews, yours or others, is: 1. telling if a higher spec machine is available in that product line. 2. Telling if Linux is available on that machine. 3. If Windows 10/11 can be run on the machine via Parallels. 4. If all (Chrome, Linux & Parallels Windows 10) would run comfortably on the machine. 5. If Ram & SSD can be expanded. 6. If Camera & Audio Jack & Camera/Audio privacy switch is there. 7. Full Tech specs for those users whoay need to convert their Chromebooks to Linux or Windows machines later...what Graphics & other hardware. And I want to know this regardless it's going to be used in Chrome mode initially because when it's old, I or other tech users will get it, when the user gets a newer machine. Think this demand is excessive? Well, I know at least 7 people who think this way & what's the point, if at the end of a review one can say...I need some more information!! Most time one does not & the purchase decision goes elsewhere!!

not a gamer... but this is the laptop I need for replacing my pixelbook. Full HD its enough.. I have to config my pixelbook to a lower resolution, 1714 x 1143 ( 70% of 2400x1600 )... because everything looks too tiny. The pen is a nice plus because sometimes I have to draw when sharing my screen to explain things better. And the 16GB of RAM it's really necessary because sometimes I have to code... and opening dev environment VS Code, mysql and chrome console consumes a lot of RAM. ( and having a 16:10 screen its perfect for coding )...

Game streaming isn't worth it. For over 1000$ you can get a windows device, and guess what, it can stream games, too. And you can install games and play them. All this marketing for streaming games to justify high chromebook prices is a joke. I like chromebooks, but I think they are moving into the wrong direction now. We don't need another expensive microsoft or apple type of brand. They are perfect for people who are looking for a fast web brwosing/ media consuming/ text editing device for a low price with features like a touchscreen and a portable design. For 700$ plus I will buy a windows notebook for sure. And 80$ for the dongle...how can you even try to talk positive about it. Be honest... There is no way asus or you can justify that price.

I think Chrome unboxed has become worse than what I used to called Macidiot and Steve Jobs RDF (Reality Distortion Field). But looking at the latest ARM based Macs, I am thoroughly impressed by what they have done in Perf+Power scenario. But they still show their "Apple" face by charging an arm and a leg for upgrades. You can get el-cheapo gaming notebooks like Acer Nitro, HP Victus with a full fledged OS, dedicated graphics card with RAM with better specs for "cheaper" price with a "Microsoft tax" than a supposed "Free OS" from Google that still depends on the cloud. I introduced my family to Chromebooks and Chrome OS and till date I have only purchased Refurbished Chromebooks which were either Celeron or Pentium with 4GB RAM and 32/64 G storage. The highest I paid was 240$ + Taxes. My kids despite having school issued Win10 laptops, still like to do their homework in the chromebooks and use them only during school and cases where homework that involve Flash/other things that Chromebooks struggle with. So I am not a Chrome OS/chromebook hater. But it is ridiculous that these OEMs charge this much for a glorified web OS and shameful that CB is promoting it. There is no chromebook worth > 600... PERIOD!... Update:- Look at the below. Apple seem to be saints... www.amazon.com/dp/B08DTJC9N7/ref=vp_d_cpf-substitute-widget_pd?_encoding=UTF8&pf_rd_p=aad6649e-0b12-443a-85ed-a9dc2979a505&pf_rd_r=NVP8X465WM2QYAMWKYHX&pd_rd_wg=DX2cj&pd_rd_i=B08DTJC9N7&pd_rd_w=3Q1Iw&content-id=amzn1.sym.aad6649e-0b12-443a-85ed-a9dc2979a505&pd_rd_r=c1e69339-c3bd-4ddd-be73-8da181a56f7f

Chromebooks are in steep decline with the market saturated, and no sign that people are staying when upgrading. So marketing push to sell game streaming as the lack of apps can be mitigated. Android apps did not really work, and Linux is niche. They have tried all these but have yet to succeed. With Googe releasing a Pixel Tablet, it may be that Google has realised that Chrome has reached its peak.
