So about 6 years later I'm still using this laptop and its done a pretty good job I've replaced: SSD with WDC PC SN520 SDAPNUW-256G, added another of the original stick of ram for 2x16 (dual channel is great), wifi card with AX210NGW (to use short preamble wifi) also use artic mx4 thermal paste Lid is closed and wired to monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc

I have this laptop for 5 years now and it's worth every penny.

Had this laptop for a week now and so far it's well built and that screen is just amazing. There are some software hiccups on my model that can be fixed by updates. You are really getting your money's worth on this laptop.

I like the design

I ordered this for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it. She does a lot of digital art and the screen seems to have good enough color accuracy for her.

great videos, thanks but OMG ASUS models are confusing... so the 502 is better than the 503.. is this applicable to all ASUS stuff? are their model numbers in reverse order so the best must be 500 and the lower end is 553.. geez i had to get my head around that.. i wish manufacturers would make their models and generations easier to follow.. arhwells looks like i am set on a ROG, have all i'm after. thanks!

This laptop even now is still a bang for your buck. Sure you won't be able to run things on max, but if you spend time fiddling around in the game video settings, you'll learn which settings will to max out or tone down to give you really good performance while maintaining a visually pleasing experience.

I have this laptop and it is AMAZING one major con is that battery life is super poor. Maybe about half an hour or more without charger. Also, I found that if you game without having it plugged in, it gets super glitchy. Also, this thing is a hot head. Gets very hot, so I recommend you get a cooling mat or something to put under the device.

I was looking for an alternative option to the XPS for color accurate display. Adding this to my list. Thank you very much for the review.

This is the review we should see. Not Linus's "Check out this super cheap || super expensive laptop!!" Don't get me wrong, I know Linus has to deal with all the sponsorship and other craps, But I generally believe that these kinds of honest and common Reviews are informational for most people, not to just people who are looking for expensive or cheap laptops.

I have owned this Laptop since January and I love it! I have had no problems with it yet. Most modern games run on max settings however the framerate usually dips to just below 30fps how ever the performance for most games seems solid even with this.

ngl after watching this video i made the decision to buy the laptop, and this laptop was the best purchase that i made. 5 years and still counting! been through a lot with this strix. and recently upgrading the storage from sshd to 2TB sata drive as a secondary storage and 1TB Samsung 970evo plus ssd as the main storage. using dual channels 16gb RAM and potentially upgrading the wifi card soon and changing the thermal paste!

I have this one. I totally recommend it. On fortnite the max FPS I’m getting is 144fps. Solid build quality. Amazing screen. Great overall laptop.

Nice review Dave, as always! How would you compare the GL503vd with, say GL553ve, considering the latter has a 1050ti and it's slightly thicker and with a DVD drive? Are their screens identical?

[Just a warning]. I bought this laptop and used it as my daily driver for quite some time and I've noticed a hardware design flaw. My work involves a lot of me being mobile with my gear therefor I often put and take out my laptop out of my backpack. I started to notice the screen hinge having a weird sound when being moved after some time of use. I also noticed some scar marks (scratch marks?) poped out near the trackpad and the sides. I was quite shock because I am very careful with my hardware and after some digging online, I found that this is a common problem for this model of the strix lineup. The screen rubber protection doesnt do its job very well, therefor the screen bezel (part of it that sticks out) leaves marks around the sides of your laptop after periodic/extended use. Its a sadly disappointing common design flaw apperantly. And I read that they've fixed it in the new line up... but still.... what a shame

Hi i have a gl503-vs and rog aura doesnt work on it so I cant change the backlight color any solution?

So I'm looking for a laptop for College next year. I really need it to have a good battery life (5+ hrs) but also powerful enough to edit videos and some light gaming. This one looks good, I'm just concerned about the battery. For normal non gaming use, is it a solid 5 hours, or do you have to turn off a lot of features to get this?

Wantched the video. Bought this laptop. (was choosing between Y530, acer helios 300 and GL503GE) So I bought GL503GE i5-8300h, GTX 1050Ti, 8 gb ram, 1 TB firecuda HDD. (Additionally bought Adata SX8200 240gb SSD). This model came with 120 Hz screen which I didn't know before buying :D I have it for a week now. I'm really happy with it. Feel free to ask about that model.
