I recently bought the RTX 2070 version on cyber monday as my first gaming rig. An i was super happy, now with the corona virus going on i decided to upgrade it since im going to be home a lot. I couldnt believe how easy it was thanks to your help, an i couldnt believe the increase in performence. IT nearly doubled or even trippled my fps, its a MUST.
You have to mention that after hdd is installed it will not automatically show up. User have to go to disk manager in OS and install new hdd manually. Not all people are aware about that

Just for anybody know, the cable for the ssd or hdd is suppose to be loose as it will hold just fine once the drive is secured with screw. When remove the hdd, removing with the cable before deattaching them probably a better way.
My experience: I tried the listed Ballistic 32gb ram kit and it was being read as 2400Mhz by both CPU-Z and 3DMark benchmarking.. There is no XMP available to enable on the Bios to enable 2666MHZ, so i returned it. I then ordered the identical to the Samsung OEM second stick , and CPU-Z is now reading 32GB at 2666Mhz.

Hi, just upgraded mine. It came with no 2.5" drive (just 512gb SSD in PCI Express port, really fast btw), but with the screws to attach to caddy and cable in the box where the manuals are. I added 1 tb SSD WD Blue and 16gb Samsung DDR4 2666mhz (which I think it's the same brand the laptop have). Plugged everything in according to your instructions and worked just fine! Just one comment: when I added the SSD and I have to connect the SSD cable, it felt like it wasn't 'attached' to the motherboard (like there was no 'click'), but it got recongnized inmediatly by the PC. Another comment I have to make is that you have to manually added it to your PC: just hit the windows button on your keyboard, start writing 'partitions...', hit the shortcut you get and you may find the storage there, with the sign of 'unallocated'. Thanks for commenting mate! That's a long story but i'm glad it worked. The ribbon cable doesn't click when you plug it into the motherboard. ;) There is a little black tag behind the connector, you can tilt it up, insert the cable and push it down to tighten the cable up. Mine didn't work so i dad to slide the cable into the connector the way i showed in the video lol.

I linked compatible stuff in the description. I'll just add that if you're planning to mix RAM it's good to go for Crucial or any other with the same latency (CL19) for the best compatibility. If you're replacing both sticks you can choose any compatible RAM.
My GL504G came with a small plastic bag of parts with partition where the warranty documentation was in. Included in that bag was a SATA cable with a tiny ribbon. Under the chip based SSD there is a tiny HDD module that should have screen printing on it. I removed the SSD, since it was only one screw, because I could see the HDD module much easier with it out. When I initially slid the SATA ribbon in, it slid right back out. I thought it might need to go in upside, but that didn’t work either. That is when I noticed a small “lock bar” on the HDD module. You put the lock bar straight up, slide the SATA ribbon (terminals UP) into the HDD module, then slide the lock bar down (away from you) to lock the ribbon in place. Once you do that, installing the 2nd HDD is pretty easy. Remove the cage, install the HDD using the screws that came in the SATA ribbon package, connect the SATA, and screw the cage back in. You're right. There should be a little tag behind the HDD slot on the motherboard. You tilt it up, put the ribbon cable in and lose the tag. However it wasn't working in my case so I thought that it is not a moving part (the tag). Thanks for sharing!
Big mistake that I bought gl704gw from the us. Display was dead out of the box but can see faint logos under direct light. Works fine with external display. Gave it to the authorized service center told me that the issue is with display panel or cable, it's been one week they got the replacement display and cable. Problem persists. Now they are telling that the problem is in motherboard and have ordered a replacement motherboard. This is really frustrating.
They should have sent you a new laptop instead. Or you could just return it saying that it's a defective unit I stead of servicing it. However, you can't end up with a broken laptop so hopefully they'll figure out how to fix it.
@@TechFinds i would have returned it if that was an option as i dont live in the us. Shipping the laptop back will cost me 1k $. So part replacement is the only option left. @@miratdholakia4634 Whoa, it's insane that shipping to the USA can cost 1k $. How is it even possible? It's hard to say if it's motherboard but if so, the chance is that only a part of the motherboard that is responsible for display connection failed.
Mine came alright. Bought from denmark. Only issue is the RGB under the spacebar is dead and some around the arrow buttons are discolored and down button is also dead. Other than that, some issues were one 16gb ram, since i thought it would be dual channel x2 8gb rams

Thanks so much for this! I've just replaced a RAM in mine and it went like a breeze, following this video. The hardest part was removing the lid. Never took apart a laptop before in my life. I bought the Crucial RAM btw (2x16 GB) and it works fine.
It's a good practice. Some people say it's necessary, some people say it's not. Actually nothing ever happened when i didn't disconnect the battery while changing RAM. But for peace of mind you can do it. ;)
This problem may happen to any laptop but unfortunately i don't know solution for that. I have never had this problem with any laptop that i've tested.

@@dannymlio03 i don't know what type of connector was there in Scar 2. I guess it's a standard sata, so if you'll find the same type it should work, but you have to match the type of connection to motherboard too

The 1tb one I was going to use does not sit well in the bracket; the screws don't line up with it in the direction that the sata cable needs to go. Dual rank may be about 5% faster than single rank, but it really depends on what you do. It's better to not mix them. Scar 2 comes with single rank RAM, so if you wanna add 1 more stick, buy single RAM too.

Hi! It's hard to missmatch RAM nowdays and the ones i linked will work with Scar 2 for sure. Of course for the best compatibility it's recommended to have 2 sticks of the same RAM but you'll be ok if you choose other brand with closest possible specs. The Crucial one you mentioned is the most similare to the RAM that Scar 2 comes with.
If you needed to replace the speakers on this laptop, do you just need to unscrew the old ones and unplug them and then screw in the new speakers and plug them in? Is there anything else required?
Very good video You can tell me which of the RAM is better because the Ballistix (by Crucial) to be better because it seems to have a genre of a mini refrigeration while the HyperX the only advantage I see is latency. Since you must have more experience than I would recommend more in relation to price, durability and performance
Few people reported that they had some problems with Ballistix RAM in this laptop. I mean they said it was working but the laptop could run it only at 2400MHz instead of 2666MHz. For the best compatibility I would recommend you to go for 2x the same sticks of HyperX or if you want to only add 1 RAM stick go for regular Crucial that I linked since it's the closest one to the stock RAM in terms of specs.
Hi great video, it helped me install a hard drive but I now want to upgrade m2 slot ssd and the ones you've listed will not fit. As far as I know it has to be b&m slot and I think 2260 size. None of the ones you've listed have those specs. If you could update with the correct M2 slot SSD's that would be appreciated. Thank you.

I never do it to be honest. It's a good practice - you should be fine not doing that but it prevents from eventual electric shock or damaging hardware. I have never experienced something like that and i don't know how exactly it could happen.

Do you just shit down the computer before unscrewing the back? And do you need to detach the battery to install ram? And can I leave the one stick in and just add in another or do I need to use 2 from the same brand?
@@day-us7mz You have to shut down the laptop and unplug the power cord for sure. It's good to disconnect the battery to prevent eventual electrocute or hardware damage. You can leave your original RAM stick and add another brand, but i don't recommend using HyperX for mixing since it has different specs. If you have 2x HyperX then you'll be good.

Yes you can do it as long as the specs of other ram are as close as possible. The rand doesn't matter that much but for the best compatibility it's recommended to have 2 sticks of the same RAM.
I have just upgrade mine and now have a spare Hynix ram (HMA82GS6CJR8N-VK). I'm going to stick it on eBay (UK) in about a week. I'll let you know on here if you are still interested.

on scar ii laptops removing the back panel voids warranty, no matter the country. It is written on the warranty terms on asus website. However, if you would ask me how would they know if there is not sticker etc. Then idk :)
I think they're not able to notice if it was opened or not unles you scratch te screws or damage something. There is only a warranty sticker on the cooling system. Thanks for info!
@@TechFinds exactly. I am also suspicious of the colored screws because they were almost like in glue consistency and fallen apart. I contacted asus about warranty terms too and they also agreed opening back panel voids it (USA)

No, there is only one slot for M.2 SSD and one 2.5" slot for HDD or SSD, so you can have 2 drives. It's better to have Windows on M.2 SSD as you already have.
Ensure that you installed the ram correctly. Sometimes it happens the RAM to go into the slot not straight. Also try hard reset. Disconnect the battery, hold power button por 30 seconds, connect battery back and see if it helped
When I took the back cover of mine off the warranty sticker wasn't on the screw for the heatsink, it was on top of the heatsink. I needed to RMA the laptop since I died but I'm worried if asus wont fix it because the warranty sticker was moved but I never took the laptop apart before it was just there when I first opened it.
I don't know mate. Try to send it and if they have any problem with it then say that sticker was there all the time. If you have warranty card read it, maybe you are allowed to disassemble cooling - it may vary between countries.
im not amazing with computers but i bought an ssd and there is no screws to screw it into the mount and there is no connecter for it. would these things be in my laptop box? or do i have to buy them?

i noticed you used a screwdriver. wouldnt this cause more static since its metal? also should i take off my socks and stand on wood while doing this? do you recommend unplugging the battery before doing this or can I leave it plugged in?
You can leave the battery connected but disconnect the power cord. You can do it on any type of ground and with socks, shoes or whatever you like. And if it comes to screwdriver i doubt that it will affect the battery anyhow.
I am not sure what is the maximum capacity of SSD that you can add to the M.2 slot. I wasn't changing mine SSD so I forgot to check it out. For sure you can add Evo 970 but it would be good if you could find an info about maximum SSD volume.

Hello Tech Finds, I added an additional 12 GB of RAM (Which worked). However, my laptop is unable to turn on without the power cord. It's almost as if the laptop does not recognize the battery. I de-attached the battery, upgraded the RAM and then re-attached the battery before closing the lid. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
I just got the G731GU but I do not have the HDD sata cable because I got the laptop with just the m.2 so they didn’t include the HDD cable. It is out of stock on the Asus website. I still installed the SSD in my laptop but it is patiently waiting to be connected to the motherboard with an HDD cable.

Most likely you'll get 1x16GB but there is also a chance that you may get 2x8GB. You could have ask the seller before you bought to be 100% sure and to find out if you have to buy another 16GB stick. Anyway, if you'll get 2x8 Scar II you can always take out one 8GB stick and install the 16GB one that you purchased.

I changed my ssd which had my windows boot loader and all files on it. My laptop doesnt read the hdd on it for some reason, so everything was on the ssd. But now I'm stuck in the bios page. Does the new ssd come stock with a windows boot loader?

Watch out to not damage the screws. Don't let the screwdriver trim the cross, because the screw will be useless. Sometimes it happens that the screws sit tight because of excess of blue/brown seal on them. You can't really help that. The only solution is to push the screwdriver down harder while unscrewing the screw and you can also put some thin piece of rubber on the screw to tighten the screw driver's head fit.

Yes, you can add this Evo 970 SSD. I mean replace your 256GB SSD, because there's only one slot. And then you have to fresh install Windows on your new SSD

You probably has the system on your current SSD so if you'd replace it you have to install the copy of your Windows on the new SSD from pendrive using Windows MEdia Creation tool

You can but i don't recommend that. The laptops are designed to work on battery as same as plugged in with battery connected. You'd rather lose performance in certain situations if you disconnected the battery
