@@WeDoTech brother im curios i have just bought z790 E gaming and gonna buy sk hynix p41 ssd but its not on the list on asus website, will they still be compatible ?
@@princekittipon6510 I'm 99.99% sure It will be fine, havent heard of a SSD that didnt work with a board because the brand didnt list it as compatible on their website. Its still a m.2 SSD. They cant list ALL ssds thats compatible, so they usually just list the popular ones or the ones that they have some partnership with.
Really it doesnt matter that mcuh as they are all so close. But them side by side and compare the specs. But most likely the Hero will be the "best" but also cost more. The Aorus Extreme is a better comparison. But honestly if you are asking then most likely you wont be using these boards to their max anyway. For majority of US the mid range boards are good enough. Just depends on your need for IO, m.2 slots, BIOS and other software.
Thanks for the thorough review! My planned custom build is: CASE: Fractal Meshify 2 RGB, MOBO: ASUS Strix Z790-E, CPU: i7-!3700K, RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5 6400 (2x16GB), iCUE H150i ELITE LCD Liquid Cooler, STORAGE: Kingston KC3000 PCIe 4.0 NVMe (1TB, and 2TB), PSU: Corsair RMX 1000, GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming 3060 TI (from my current build). I have all the components except for the ASUS Z790E, which is backordered.
Honestly you should just go with a Fractal Torrent RGB. It's a better Meshify 2. I also recommend going with the Corsair HX1000i [Black Label], it's better than the RMX imo
@@vick7490 No, I connected my C: Drive to the 2nd m.2 slot (that connects directly to the CPU), and I connected my D: Drive to the 3rd m.2 slot (connect to the Z790 chipset).
im really stuck on what motherboard to go with for my 13900k. Not sure how common it is, but Ive heard ASUS boards have been really bad this time around (instability/bad drivers/burning cpus lol). Seen alot of negative reviews about that but I really wanted to switch to ASUS from MSI. Had a 5900x with MSI board and it was a massive headache.
@@kinggamer19 For what it's worth. I've been using the Z790-E for four months now and haven't had any issues. My installed RAM is the G.Skill RGB 6400 32GB (2 x 16GB) kit.
Honestly I would just go the the E. They are very close and I would only go Hero if I plan to do some more overclocker, need the extra IO and the biggest factor the 2x PCIe 5 slots. Not really needed yet, but if you want tp future proof then maybe.
Honestly if it was me, I would just go for the E. The only reason to go for the Hero is if you need more power for overclocking and the 2x PCIe 5 slots. Not really that useful now but an idea for future proofing. But can just take the 150 you save and use that for Z890 or Z990 later down the line.
High Midrange, but yeah everything is hella expensive. But luckily some of the "budget" boards are pretty good. Most people dont need all the fancy bells and whistles these boards have.
Since my m.2 is only a PCIe 4x4, should I move it from the main m.2 slot since you states it only runs at x8 vs x16? I'm not too educated on PCIe slots, but I just have 2 Samsung 980 Pro m.2s and wanna put them in the most efficient spots possible. z790-e, 13700k, RTX 3080, DDR5-6400. Thanks!
I just got this exact setup. I'm moving up from an i5 6600k and a cheap msi board lol. I have the corsair h100i aio cooler, I believe. Will that be enough for the cpu?
im upgradeing my old computer from 2014 build that has asus z97 pro with i7 4790k to this ASUS Strix Z790 E mb and CPU i7-!3700K with CORSAIR Vengeance DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 5600 for now i will still use my old asus rog strix 1080ti oc because the gpus are too expensive so now till i can find good deal on rtx 3080ti or 3090 ti lol
Exactly the same - Same board and CPU from 2014 but going with a z790-F (a lil cheaper) and Dominator Corsair DDR5 (Like $30 more for 32 Gb)… and looks incredible!
I have a question for you. I have exact same set up; (z790-E + 13700k) If I install my NVME drive into the gen 5 slot on the top, will it affect my GPU at all? (2080ti) I avoided installing my NVME drive into the gen 5 slot because the manual said it would reduce my PCI lane count to x8 for GPU. But now after watching your video I think I misunderstood, because my GPU is gen 4, i won’t be losing any PCI lanes at all. Is this correct? I can use the gen 5 slot and not worry about sacrificing PCI lanes for my GPU? Thank you for your review.
@@billx4266 Is there a benchmark to support this? I have the same question, but to my understanding, only pcie4 cards are out. This means that the slot defaults to the cards speed, that would be 8X Pcie4 not 5, so the bandwidth will in fact be limited.
@@joser.colonmorales Yes i tested it, GPU-Z was showing me pcie 4.0 x8, but thats still the same as Pcie 3.0 x16. performance loss is between 3-5%, you wont notice that. But i placed the ssd in another place because psychologically i want the utmost out of my card 😀
@@billx4266 3-5% is not that bad. What card were you using doing the test? I have a 3080ti and a 13700k + z790-e on the way, I wonder if that % is higher with a 3080ti than with the ops 2080ti.
One thing that caught me by surprise is that "Multi-Core Enhancement" is enabled by default in the BIOS out of the box. I was surprised to see my 13900K running at 5.5/4.3Ghz at stock settings. But the temperatures are too high but under-volting the 13900K rectified it.
Thanks for the review 👊 A 240mm aio is nowhere near enough to cool this cpu though. Back in the day I couldn’t even cool my overclocked 8700k with a 240mm cooler. To be fair manual overclocking by means of undervolting would bring your temps down significantly, the auto OC utilities don’t do a good job of it.
Anyone having slow bootup time on Asus z790e? Mine takes 40 seconds from power button to windows login (970 Evo plus) -on latest bios and startups disabled
Overclocking with ai is just plain stupid. The ai is always giving to much volts on the cpu so the temps are crazy hi. Always manualy overclock. Its not that hard.
Would there be any issue installing a really large air cooler over the CPU like a Noctua NH-D15? I see that the CPU is embedded inside a 'pit' of sorts.
@@WeDoTech An even better option is the wife letting me use her reward points and spending a little over $200 on the board! Fair winds and following seas to all.
I just bought the ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming WiFi to pair with a i7-13700K. I got it for $368. Is it worth the extra $132 to buy the Z790-E? I'm still in a time frame where I can return it.
Do you have to remove anything from the other m.2 slots your not using? Any plastic or anything? I'm only using the top one. Should I be using the top one if only one or another slot?
Very few reviews and info on the Z790-F which looks to have everything the E does with only noticeable difference I think the E supports a gen 5 SSD whereas the F only does gen 4. Also curious as to the ROG Strix panel in the top left on the I/O cover - it lights up right? There’s actually a connector on the F board hidden underneath that was a bugger to find and connect to get it to work. Works well with Corsair’s iCue software and hardware too - get the Dominator RAM - it’s looks so good and not much of a difference in price over the Vengeance DDR 5 range of speeds available. Would love to see and hear a better Z790-E vs Z790-F comparison video, but then i’ll probably kick myself that I didn’t pay the extra $100 or so for the E board😢
I boght recently this E model and woth it alot. Here you can use Gen5 m.2 ssd coming right now. And a 13th gen you've alot next gpu generations without bottleneck!
i want thunderbolt for my sound interface . if i get this i will need 100 for the thunderbolt card . i have a gygabyte thunderbolt 3 card with a asrock z370 now i dont think i will work on that motherboard
Strange question here. Dose the eye on the top left of the motherboard stay on and flash when the system is turned off ? Is it supposed to breath not stay on and flash ?
congratulations for the video, I wanted to know if it is necessary to use the two 8-pin connections to power the 13700k or just one 8-pin connection is enough
On other CPUs it might work but for this one because it uses more power dual is recommended. If you undervolt the CPU to run at lower power consumption it might work. But then you loose out on performance.
Because the VRM heatpreader is in the way on the left side, the ram on the right side and cant remember the reason for bottom now but I had a reason. Understand that if I had a better looking mounting possition I would have used it. I always try to make the systems look the best on camera but sometimes hardware combinations dont allow that.
