Many asylum seekers in Switzerland are finding life hard in the country as they lack the proper refugee identity documents.
More than 30,000 asylum seekers are living in Switzerland on a temporary F permit.
"[Asylum seekers with] the F status they get 11 francs and 50 cents each day, to manage their lives. It means to buy the food, to buy the soap, then you get specially paid. You get your apartment, so the rooms to live, and the health insurance," said Kurt Strehler, a refugee department official in the canton of Uri for the Swiss Red Cross.
Those granted a refugee identity can get 960 Swiss francs (about 980 U.S. dollars) of government relief per month.
In Switzerland, even a bottle of water at the supermarket will cost around five Swiss francs, so asylum seekers with a temporary permit have to buy life necessities at the flea markets.
At least 15,000 asylum seekers with F permits have stayed in the country for more than seven years, some have even stayed for 16 years.
"We don't have a chance to have the residential papers here in Switzerland for Iraqi people. Only F, some kind of protection for the Iraqi people until the situation gets better in Iraq, and they send them back," said an Iraqi asylum seekers who has been in Switzerland for over a decade.
The Swiss government has arranged for the refugees to attend social service programs that they can earn around 200 Swiss francs (about 204 U.S. dollars) each month besides government relief, including bike repairs and kitchen work.
"Now I got seven years. In Switzerland, we don't have any profession, now I'm starting to [be trained as a kitchen assistant]. So, at the end of this I will try it," said an asylum seeker from Sudan.

@@makmedia887 wtf ? if it's war there, than it's because lack of education or wrong decisions made by government, which is elected by these citizens, and arms itself is just piece of metal, even european cars can be used as weapon :/

Here's the bigger question Can a Swedish Person go to a Arab country or Africa and get free room, medical health care, free dental, free child birth and medication, not work And get a stiffen also and declare more kids than they have for a larger tax refund Riot and call everyone in other countries racist if they disagree with anything. Start a support group like CAIR to only represent them in other countries, then get into local government and national government and write laws solely beneficial to them? All the while never having given anything to contribute only to take. I think not. Let alone create churches in Arab lands so they have religous freedom. Enough said. The answer is NO

I thought Switzerland doesn't take ANY 'refugees' at all...
@leonamay8776
@leonamay8776 4 года назад
That's very wrong. Switzerland is a tiny country (about 8 million inhabitants) and more than 1/2 is mountain (so the population density in non mountainous regions is high). But despite limited space and small population we still accept refugees. It's our obligation due to international law and humanitarian tradition.

@@leonamay8776 No it isn't. According to the geneva convention you are only OBLIGATED to take in refugees when they fleed from a warzone. Switzerland doesn't border on any warzone. If you travel from a warzone to a safe country and try to travel from there to another country. You will not be considered a refugee anymore.
