One person apologized as a start....Even though he apologized late in senior years, at least he is trying to make peace with his soul by apologizing and confession of his crimes. The current Nippon Kaigi controlled government stil very slow to response and to admit point blank of the atrocities

Your view is the optimists view But for a cynic, omme can also think that he didn't show any remorse for his while life. And only because he has some fatal disease or going to die from old age. Basically, he has made his peace with his own death/mortality, and he thinks by doing this stuff, he is hoping that he will die with dignity and his morality restored. In other words, it's a pure selfish act to ease his own fears and other psychological/ideological factors.. with religious/spiritual factors being the most obvious. IE he is hoping to go to heaven instead of hell.. or reincarnated as a human again instead of a rat, bug, or a LOG. "Logs" were what unit 731 members called people that they using as lab specimens as part of their dehumanization . I mean Chinese and the few other nationalities involved(some Americans even) weren't good enough to be called some kind of animal and instead they used some dead inanimate object like a log. I also assume that this type of dehumanization and thought process was not just limited to unit 731 but was widespread in the imperial Japanese army(IJA). I remember hearing about two friends in Japanese army who had a contest to see who could decapitate 100 heads first with their katanas. Think about that. This is WW2, people had machine guns and pistols and everything already. Ywt they are having a competition to see who can decapitate the most heads.. and this would be innocent's since actual armed combatants would not allow themselves to be in a position where they can get decapitated to begin with. So I am assuming it's just the usual Japanese genocide. Probably happened during the rape of Banking(Nanjing now). They went around the city just slaughtering and raping everyone and everything. Even pregnant women had their babies cut out and then the unborn child was skewered in the air with their bayonets like they are playing tennis or some sport. They were throwing it around in the air and probably got off on that sadistic shit, forcing fathers to have sex with their daughter, sons with mothers, then they kill the pregnant mother in front of their whole extended family.. or they force the family members to kill their own family, while pretending that they will spare the pregnant women or children but that's obviously a lie. The best was probably them making you dig your own grave literally. The stuff japan did in WW2 was some of the most brutal and depraved shit humans have done since like medieval dark ages torture shit(cruel and unusual punishment). Japanese are meant to be civilized, but they acted like wild animals or barbarians. I guess compared to China they are since they only became "civilized" after they had contact with China and copied everything wholesale including the written language, inventions, cultural stuff like art, music, and also the governmental system(imperial dynasty with emperor etc). During WW2 China was looked at as backwards and uncultured barbarians, or at least relative to the western great powers. That's why Japan betrayed their heritage and roots and basically did everything they could to get recognized as an advanced colonial state by the western powers like 8 nation alliance who also invaded and subjugated and looted china and still had their colonial possessions like in Shanghai and dozens of cities all over China. Including Hong Kong of course. Japan also wanted their piece of china since that's what all the colonial great powers were doing at the time. Japan has always learned and copied from the most advanced and strongest civilizations.. But they were really dumb to think they could swallow all of China when even the mongols took 100+ years to do so(while the rest of the world fell quickly, just like Japans expansion in WW2). But if Japan would have studied history, they would know that mongols were the one who got assimilated into Chinese society and cultural sphere, just like Manchus. So perhaps Japan is luckier having been defeated by China in WW2. Otherwise today Japan would probably be one of chinas minority ethnic groups and there would be more Japanese in China as Chinese citizens than in Japan itself. That's the case for Mongolia since there's more ethnic Mongolians in Chinas inner Mongolia region than in the whole of Mongolia itself(also known as outer Mongolia since it was all part of China during Qing dynasty) until Russia/Japan took over and after WW2 Russia and China agreed to give independence so they can be a buffer zone for the two superpowers. Else they'd need hundreds of thousands of troops just to guard the 1000s of kms of border.

The Japanese army during WWII committed heinous crimes without a doubt. But my issue is with the Japanese army during that era, not the younger generation of Japanese. Even then, I stopped holding grudge against them for 2 decades already when a Japanese friend of mine apologized on behalf of her Japanese forefathers. At the very least, I forgave the younger generation of Japanese. If a single generation can define a race for generations, then we need to think how we are defined by our own history. For those who demand the Japanese to apologize, ask yourself this question, are you ready to accept the apology and forgive the Japanese if they apologize? If not, what is the point of demanding an apology from Japan? If this old gentleman trying to do the right thing is only met with insults and criticisms, why should the other Japanese even think about apologizing? Can't you people at least forgive this old gentleman?
