Thanks to our shuttle driver Christine, we were able to slack pack 21.2 miles today even though we were in a record breaking heat wave. We had planned to stay at a shelter, but we had to hike back up a steep 0.3 mile climb that we didn’t think we could make so we opted for a hotel instead.

It was hotter on the trail than it was back home in NC on this day you just posted. Just glad you were able to have a day to slack pack.

Whew! The heat is brutal. Take care and the miles will still be there!

Great job on that day. Yes, it was hot this week. About your mile average and the long term plan for the White Mountains: you may want to count on about 1 mile per hour, maybe a tiny bit more if the weather is dry. But it will be worth it and you will be ready for it. In the meantime, enjoy CT, MA, and VT! New Hampshire will come soon enough.

So glad Gavin is doing well . That you both are doing as you can, to make it up to the Finish Line . I believe you guys will make it . I’m still thinking cotton material would be better for hot heat . Maybe could Google the various cotton materials. (Only a suggestion . )Glad Gavin got ankle boots , I have weak ankles from injuries and definitely has helped me along the way . Keep on , keeping on 😊

Prayers that shoes are on point for you both. We did our last trail magic with Adam in great Barrington last year. The next time we saw him was in Baxter state park!!! Try Great Barrington Brewery and Restaurant if you get the chance. You won’t be disappointed.

It is hard to know what boots or trail runners will work best. Hope your new boots work out well. Currently I have Columbia 3/4 waterproof boots. They are light for boots but I am thinking of trying lighter ones
