Hey buddy I know we’re all busy but I have a question. 2010 4.6 tundra rwd. 330k on the bad boy and everything shifts like a dream and drives smooth, only concern is an intermittent TC Shudder and p0741. Since shifting is ok would you recommend flushing at that high of mileage? Or valve body/solenoid testing? Where would you start? I’m a ford tech but not a trans certified guy. Thanks for the time!
My first step would be to determine if that p0741 is an indication of a circuit problem or a performance code which more tests the torque converter clutch performance. If it's a circuit code I would be looking at wiring and tcc solenoid. If its a performance code that would be more of a mechanical issue like the torque converter, valve body, hydraulic issues, etc. This type of code watches the input (crank position sensor) and output (transmission input speed sensor) to determine if there is slipping in the torque converter clutch. If I get some time to sit down and read the code logic I will tell you which I think you should pursue. The flush is a hail Mary, probably won't fix and with that many miles it may stir up trouble.
Typically the friction clutch disks wear and cause a slip or loss of gear, on older models friction bands. Also over time the seals may begin to leak causing an internal pressure loss and slip. Lack of fluid maintenance can cause valves to stick which may cause shifting issues. These are the typical wear items but potential for many other problems.
