it's not so much an issue, but the game require a lot of button to play so people are having a hard time mapping the button. The game is highly recommended to be played with a controller, unless you are familiar with Emulator game and can put up with it.

Ya I just played last night and first thing I realized is that there is no mouse option and I had to map quite a bit of keys. It took me a good hour to finally find a comfortable/easy to remember key binds. This could be an issue when the game will require to use a lot more keys during combat so I did purchase a Xbox one controller today which feels a ton better. It’s unfortunate but it’s still worth it cuz.. thighs.

This was my first Atelier game. While the battle mechanics and alchemy system can seem very overwhelming, a few hours of letting the combat auto pilot while you push buttons, in addition to spamming the "high quality" autocraft button for alchemy, and you'll eventually figure it out enough to play the game effectively. Came for the thighs, stayed for the plot. And by plot, I mean Lila. In all seriousness, the game is worth the $60 price tag, and I don't say that much in the current age of gaming.

I always loved the art style and the crafting in these games which is what rly attracted me to them. The stories and battle systems aren't bad but surely take a bit of a back seat in these jrpgs in my opinion. Thankyou for the review as I am stoked for Atelier Ryza :) It looks absolutely beautiful and I'm truly looking forward to the new crafting and battle systems. While I support the idea since I really loved the game, I highly doubt (like 99% doubt) they're gonna do it considering how bad Mana Khemia was received in Japan. The PTSD they got at that time was too strong that they won't dare touch it ever again, especially with how kinda badly the "Atelier series" is doing in the passing time. But now that THICCNESS has come to save the day, the chance of it happening may probably rise in the future, probably.

You had me the moment you said "they got rid of time limits" I played a few Atelier stories and noticed that the greatest flaw to enjoying the game was the time limit. I think I might give this game a chance.

I don't understand. What do you mean by time limit? I'm looking to try this game out
@niafarquem5402
@niafarquem5402 3 года назад
Mr. Rogue in most of the atelier game, there’s time limit in each chapter or when you moved to new main quest. Meaning we’ll be given days/hours to finish the quest or main event. The time passes when we travel to the areas, when battling and also during alchemy. The more complicated the alchemy recipe, the more time it takes. In atelier rorona, the time passes even when you move to the next frame even in the same area. But you’ll eventually be able to create items that can reduce the amount of time passes. In some instalments, you can only choose certain events so you’ll need to choose which characters you want to know more and you won’t be able to view everyone’s story. I’m not sure how the other players feel but it really stressed me out. I feel like I can’t do anything carelessly because I won’t have enough time. I played atelier ryza and I enjoyed the freedom the game give me. I can also feel the depth of each characters because they have many interactions with each other as they traveled together. Each characters are great and I just in love with Ryza. She’s strong willed and fun which is different from atelier’s usual naive mc.

If you’ve played other atelier series before, you’ll enjoy atelier ryza. But if it’s your first time with atelier, I hope you’ll have a good time playing it because for me, atelier is one of my favourite instalments because the concept intrigued me

I'm glad I saw this review before I pulled the trigger on this game. As of this comment, the game is $30 on Steam, butI wanted a second opinion before I bought it. Will definitely pick this game up now. Thanks for this :)

Looks interesting! Been wanting to try a new JRPG franchise (I started Trails of Cold Steel bc of you this year). Any major JRPG series that this one would compare to?
@JRPGGaming
@JRPGGaming 4 года назад
It's hard to compare Atelier to other series because it's one of the only series like it that regularly gets localised, it's most like what the Shining series has become over the last decade (Shining Resonance Refrain being the latest localised title). Atelier occupies this spot in between smaller scale/lower budget JRPGs and mid-upper tier JRPGs like Tales. They generally have a development cycle of 12-18 months with budgets on the lower end of adequate so you do have to go in with the right level of expectation. They mostly tell smaller scale, personal stories focusing on the main protagonist and a handful of other characters. The stories have somewhat of an open-structure, with optional scenes triggering in certain locations at certain times, and the expectation that you'll get distracted throughout by the main gameplay elements: Alchemy (crafting), Collecting, and Combat. Combat is turn-based and was pretty standard until Ryza which really changed it up a lot (for the better), Alchemy has been getting deeper and deeper as the series continues, and collecting (for materials and ingredients) has mostly stayed the same but functions like a dynamic treasure hunt - different tools can give you different materials from the same object (e.g. hit a tree with your weapon and get fruit, slice it with a farming scythe to get some bark, and chop it with an axe for wood.) The main sacrifices the series makes is in world size, graphics (on a technical fidelity level only - the art-style is fantastic), and the OST which I would normally describe as "fitting but largely forgettable" (with a couple of exclusions that fair better, including Ryza).

That it doesnt exist in this new Atelier ?? (sorry im not native in english :>) If i understand it right ..im more hyped ~ I think i get this for the PS4 ... We'll see ~

Well yeah the game is pretty short since there is more DLC in the imported version I think, but it isn't a bad game though, I didn't really spend the entire time making space for items and still finished everything I wanted to do quickly.

I've been playing this series since the first game released in the usa. So much has changed. And while yes alot has changed we saw the rise of alchemy in the first three then in mana-kelemia we saw the fall of alchemy. And these last games since then how the fall has affected the world and how it was forgotten then it's slow rebirth. Each story is short but the overall worlds story is truly grand. I think I still have the first three games in storage. People should see how the original synthesis system was. That was a pain and more like a slot machine then skill.

People seem to always judge games by how long the main story takes, but forget that the main story isn't all the game is. Skyrim's main story can be beaten in like, 6 hours. 10 if you suck. But Skyrim was held, and is still considered by many, to be one of the greatest games of all time.

I didn't have footage of the PS4 version. Koei Tecmo provided PC B-roll and I played the Switch version; the entire review is based on the Switch version with the PC version only being briefly mentioned in the graphics bit because it's the one I had footage of. It's good to know that the PS4 version looks almost as good though!

Noooo, whole lot different. Especially with adding reshade. If a game is released multi platform either go switch for the portability or PC for crispiness.

@Lekzie69 everything is fixable on PC. Nier is already fixed a few days after release with Special-K. And no I am not talking about game selling, I am talking about playability x experience : if it is released across multiple platforms, you go to switch for mobility & to PC for fidelity. E.g : Why would I play doom on PS4 when I can play I can experience all the graphical capability on PC or play it anywhere I can on switch?

Whenever you hear somebody say shit like: "nah I go for couch option 10ft away on my 65" oled using a wireless controller instead of staring at the monitor in front of ur face" Just ignore that person's opinion, they have never experienced PC gaming in their lives and are completely ignorant of it. Because you can do all the stuff they just mentioned on a PC with no problem, they are standard features for PC. The only people who don't know that, are willfully ignorant console only people like this guy. So you like your console and don't want to play on a PC? Great. Don't be ignorant of the facts of the other platform you're trying to downplay to justify your choice though. It just makes you look stupid to people like me who have all the platforms. I automatically assign you to the special bracket, for people you talk to as slowly as possible. When you spout such BS.

I would honestly say the game feels more like the PS2 era Atelier games. Which I think is too its benefit. It has a nostalgic feeling to it like I am playing Mana Khemia for the first time. If only they'd bring Mana Spirits back.
