I watched your update about the auto rotation fix. Have you heard if the issue where the controls for up and down not working in vertical mode (I think BYOG) have been fixed or will be fixed by launch?

Thanks for the great review and comparison between the two. Good point you made that the Legends Ultimate Mini, despite its smaller 18" screen (vs 24"), has MORE space during gameplay on *vertical* games than the standard (larger and FAR heavier) Legends Ultimate in both 'Fit mode' and 'Pixel Perfect mode'. Got this for only US$199 from Sam's Club + $18.xx shipping (sold out now). No brainer for $199 since the ALU was still $350 at Sam's Club and had already sold out before I had a chance to decide between the two! The Mini is far lighter which is nice for moving it around if needed. The main negative of the Mini for me is the lack of the trackball and spinners though - going to look into aftermarket options (doubt my old Wico trackball will work - just kidding).
@Guernicaman
@Guernicaman 2 года назад
My only gripe is they no longer have & took out the spinner & trackball. Considering the fact they got rid of buttons, you'd think they'd have enough space for at least one of the two. There are also smaller trackballs & spinners they could've used for this & they probably would've fit.

I love the rotating screen. Well done Atgames. Not everyone has a giant house w room for 3 machines and their products do a ton to help w that. I still love that my legends ultimate has a spinner and ball plus 2 controllers, that seems rare. Just wish I had more options for artwork on version 1

I think this is a great entry product for people who want a full-size home arcade but don't want to spend a ton of money. If I hadn't bought the Legends Ultimate a few months back, and was looking to get something as my first full arcade, and both of these were available, I'd likely have gone for this over that. And I'm betting this will be available at a reduced price at Sam's Club or somewhere else eventually.

Great no nonsense video! The Atgames Legends Ultimate truly looks like the best option here. I've been on the fence about picking one of those up because I wanted to see what the mini had to offer. Now I don't regret cancelling my pre-order for the mini and sticking with the Legends Gamer Pro!

Honestly... when it comes to vertical cabinets like this... you are better off removing the marquee altogether, and using a larger vertical monitor that takes up most of the space of the marquee, etc... and then be able to simply display a marquee image for the game in CoinOps,etc to fill in the unused space, since most of the classic games are not widescreen. This also gives you a wider screen for horizontal games as well, and this gives the best of all options with no need to rotate a screen.

Would be cool, if AtGames came out with a screen replacement for the big cabinet, so we could rotate the monitor on that model, too. At least they're listening to you. This mini cuts out so many other games, by not having a trackball, or spinners, unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.

Very good honest review. For me personally I think it’s a miss as a dedicated vertical cabinet. If it had a 4:3 or 5:4 screen and a trackball I might consider it (I’m curious why they wouldn’t include a trackball and/or spinner knowing that many might use this just in vertical mode) The vertical games look small on the 16:9 screen playing in the proper aspect ratio. I can definitely see why it would be a good option for some though.

I just purchased the mini stand alone console with pinball kit, I really don't have space for a cabinet. I purchased a 32" lcd with a stand to rotate between vertical / horizontal games. I wish they would have made a 1player version with a trackball and spinner. I'll be using mostly coinops x for game play.

I loved the Ultimate when I had it in for review. I wish I could justify buying one. The Mini looks nice, but I’d miss that spinner and the second stick for Robotron. (I also wish it had better screen modes. The NeoGeo cab I had offered a quite nice CRT filter.)

Nice piece... we can always count on Doug to provide a candid review. I'll be interested in seeing the price difference for the standup units in Canada. It's possible that the Mini will be more compelling in markets outside of the US as the Ultimate retails for more than USD$700 here. I have to wonder if AtGames has any plans to provide a variation of their screen rotation solution for the Ultimate. From a product strategy standpoint, I'm also surprised that they didn't go with an offering to address the cocktail segment. The differences in the pricing and feature set between the Mini and Ultimate are fairly nominal and provide more of an either/or purchasing decision as opposed to a +1.

I would prefer holes in the plexi that match the hand grips, and you just grab the screen and tilt it, without unscrewing anything and removing and then replacing the plexi. I know that would leave holes in the front of the cabinet, but I personally would prefer that. Unfortunately, cutting those holes in the plexi yourself is difficult, and needs decent tools. Maybe they could offer a replacement plexi with the proper cutouts?

Nice review. I'm passing on this but definitely see the appeal, especially for vertical games. The question I have is which version of the pinball tables this is running. It was rumored this would run versions for the Legends pinball, and if so that would be interesting since presumably there'd have to be some adjustments to those tables since there's no backglass.

The screen on the mini will never be able to adapt instantly by rotating it like a cell phone. Cell phones have built-in gyroscopes to engage that feature. To have this type of screen in these would be way too costly for them to sell this. I'm quite certain though that they will fix this through firmware update

If they are into making things modular, maybe in the future there could be some way to connect two full size legends. That way you could have in home, something to the effect of owning a double screen x-men, with all four players having comfortable elbow room. With the ability to play one game on both screens, but also have the ability to play two different games if you choose. Need to move or change ur house and you’ve run out of space? It just becomes two separate cabinets and you can move them around the house or sell one off if you need to. I agree why not just buy the full size. I was hoping this would be a 200 ish dollar price difference not just 100. Thanks for the info.

I see a market for this. It provides a "real feel" in a smaller package with extended pinball functionality. Although it seems your losing features, I disagree. For single people, people on a budget and /or people with tiny apartments, this mini is providing more of a little bit of everything package and at a slightly smaller price point. Hopefully they continue to refine and improve it.
@JeremyStratton
@JeremyStratton 2 года назад
I'd also add this seems to definitely be incorporating pinball and it's only my opinion but virtual pinball is very desirable and a strong force right now which may carry more weight and value in the market right now for some people.

In the new era where Arcade1Up cabinets are $599 and $699, the AtGames Legends Ultimate cabinet can still be found for $499, with 300 legal/fully licensed ROMs from the 8 bit, 16 bit consoles and arcade. With 2 player support, a decent full sized trackball, 2 spinners, and a nice chunk of original Atari game ROMS (not to mention the TRON arcade games), the original Legends Ultimate is worth the extra $100 over the "skinny" version here. This "mini" cabinet should be under $300.

Cool video man. This sounds like a bargain with these supply chain issues and Arcade 1up constantly raising their prices. I am surprised Disney allows their games to be on this thing. Since you have AtGames ear, I’m perplexed as why if I buy pinball games for the Tetris Mini (they are shipping a bunch for free as it is pretty late) why can’t I use the games on an AtGames Pinball if I was to upgrade at a later time? I had planned on buying a bunch of Pinball packs when the bundles went on sale, but I’m certainly not going to wish to pay for the same games in the future. (In other words, it would dampen if not kill the idea of getting a Pinball in the future). If they truly are different coded programs, why not simply sell us the license for the game (to play at home) and have no additional costs if we were to buy a new machine and wish to transfer the purchase. Cheers!

I think I might have to pick up this mini. Had no idea it was coming out. I like the slimmer size and already have enough arcade 1up machines, so this would be a good pickup for me. Thx for posting!
@cooltoy
@cooltoy 2 года назад
I would avoid purchasing a USB stick. For starters all the information on how to compile your own USB filled with games for free is already online. Secondly those USB sticks are essentially a "moment in time" and can become obsolete with a random firmware update, so it wouldn't be wise to pay money to someone to get something that can be suddenly useless the moment you update your machines firmware.

@@cooltoy @COOLTOY Yeah just seems that it's only $100 less than their reg size given all you lose with the smaller/'slimmer cab.

@@xcom6466 but the majority of arcade games are played with joystick and not played with spinners or track ball so not a deal breaker for some.The price point for alu mini excludes this but for a hundred more u can get the alu arcade that has what u need.

Might as well spend the xtra 100 for the trackball and spinners…. Plus 150 xtra games

@@JoseOrtiz-pp1vm This thing stinks,, the proper aspect ratios make the screens smaller than 1ups 17 inch monitor both vertically and horizontally. Even worse, the shape is hideous at best.

Looks like another half baked idea from Atgames. I already have their Ultimate Legends Pinball and have continued sound issues with the haptics despite Atgames sending out another set of speakers and also purchasing the new conrol deck. The distortion of the haptic speakers is unbearable even when set to 10 or even 0! I have lost all faith in their products.

Do you have an actual job in addition to pushing this merch?.

I’m not pushing anything, I reviewed the product and specifically said to people in this video I don’t tell people what to buy and they should do whatever suits them best
