In this video, Stephen Meyer, John Lennox & Michael Behe discuss the limitations of the "matter only" view on life & how its reductionism & narrowness are actually negatively impacting the scientific community and its pursuit of Truth (as the evidence for design becomes stronger with each passing month).

This is an argument against the existence and human knowledge of the Biblical God and his commandments. What kind of arrogance and presumed human comprehension about the will of this God does is take to be certain the creator of the universe doesn’t want you to dishonor your father and mother, nor eat shell fish or pork, nor have sex before marriage? Whoever presumes he knows this about an incomprehensible God’s will is insanely arrogant. Where are the golden tablets that God inscribed his ten commandments on? They just happen to be missing. Once again no way to examine the evidence. What a coincidence. No evidence for anything but people presume they know. Pure arrogance backed up by ignorance.

@@billbaldwin3564 um, stone tablets. The golden tablets are Mormon, who claim to be Christian, but aren't considered so by "main stream" demoninations. The stone tablets are from Moses & were kept in the Arc of the Convenant, which was supposed hidden away when Jerusalem was going to fall to some enemies. Not that it really affects your thesis.

I want to thank you for making this channel. It's helped me in the most profound ways. I've dealt with depression for as long as I can remember. At some point in my life, I conceded that it was just part of who I am, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. I was lost and confused and couldn't tell you how many times I've hit what felt like rock bottom. One day, when it felt like my whole life was piling on top of me, I took a leap. I dropped to my knees and prayed to God. I sayed "God if you're real, please help me". At that moment, a voice in my mind said "I believe in you". I was overcome with emotion that I couldn't possibly explain in just a few words. Not only did I hear the words, I felt them so deeply. Since that moment, I've wanted nothing else but a closer relationship with God. Your channel has played the largest role in bringing me to Jesus Christ. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you.

I specialize in molecular biology. Try calculating the odds of assembling the sequence of the first functional protein of modest size (150AA) purely by chance alone, without the benefit of something like design. I’ll give you _all_ the particles in the known universe (10^80) working together in unison to make this one protein, reacting with each other at the fastest possible speed (Planck time of 10^-47 seconds), since the beginning of time (about 10^18 seconds), with an estimated sample space of functional proteins compared to nonfunctional proteins as 1 in 10^77. Don’t forget that forming a covalent bond between amino acids is a 1 in 2 chance, and that the L-form formation is also a 1 in 2 chance. Let’s assume there are 20 amino acids to choose from, so each amino acid should be considered as a 1 in 20 chance. These are extremely generous, and even absurd, conditions to give chance the best chance.

"I'm astounded by the learned scientists who have totally disregarded the creation story of Genesis as being myth." That's because they didn't just "disregard" it on a whim, it was solidly proven to not be true. It may be a lovely allegory, but it isn't fact. And facts are the only goal of science. When science found no facts in Genesis, it moved on. No harm, no foul. The only enduring problem with Genesis is the idea that it should be somehow forced or manipulated into being true, instead of letting it be literature.

I believe in intelligent design, but not in a duty to a creator. There are many ways to view intelligent design. For instance, in the monotheistic Abrahamic religions of a Creator and a Creation, the Creation being distinct from the Creator, we have duality consciousness and the possibility of sin. Whereas in the New Age worldview, All is One, Source is both the creator and the creation, it is one and the same, we have unity consciousness and sin is not possible : everything that is done is done by Source itself. Source goes all the way from the infinitely small to the infinitely big. Morality is only relevant within the human consciousness range of things. And all levels of that universe interact with the other levels, not in terms of a duty to adore some above/below level of reality, but in terms of actual mutually beneficial relations. That's how I see it...

If we are the result of design we have a good idea of the recipe followed. First, create a universe of a septillion stars, planets and moons. Then wait 10 billion years. Then pick a planet swarming with complex organic molecules and tweak one to start replicating. Bacterial life begins. Then wait a further 3 billion years. Then, over the next half-billion years, guide that life through the stages of invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds. And how did the "designer" guide our evolution? By way of deadly cosmic and solar radiation; the O2 catastrophe; continental drift; mega-droughts; worldwide ice ages; mass starvations; supervolcano eruptions; predation; parasitic infestation; pathogenic infection and 5 mass extinctions. Talk about a rube-goldbergy way to produce humanity! 😄 The last mass extinction occurred when a giant meteorite struck near Yucatan, causing a worldwide cataclysm of suffering and death that led to the extinction of 2/3 to 3/4 of all species. But with the Dinos gone, the little mammals could emerge from their burrows and evolve into the many forms we see today like bats, whales, elephants and humans. Without that impact we wouldn't be here. Did the "designer" see that asteroid coming and let it pass? Intentionally hurl it at Earth? Or did it take the "designer" by surprise?

The fact science keeps changing the story is not a shortcoming, it is an advantage. Unlike your precious book, science corrects itself when errors are discovered. Religion is carved in stone, literally in some cases. Second, just like the ancients ascribed lightening, disease, the tides, etc, etc, etc, anything they didn’t yet understand to their imaginary friends, things we cannot yet explain will be understood in the future as due to natural causes, not your invisible pals.

I think many in the scientific community will not allow for the possibility of a Creator for the same reason that materialists do, which is, to admit that there is a God who made everything that exists, would demand that they be morally accountable to Him. If He made the universe then He made man, and if He made man, then man is of necessity under Him and subject to Him, as are the laws of science and the natural world. Claiming unbelief in God does not make Him go away, nor does it let anyone off the hook for breaking His laws. His law is always love based. Explain love, scientists. It's all fig leaves to cover themselves.
@stephanweinberger

The best part of this video is the declaration that rationality is not coterminous with science. The discussion then appeared to move towards broadening the definition of science, but stopped with "historical science". The speakers need to be clear about whose definition of science they are using. Today, science tends to be governed by Francis Bacon's definition, which is bounded by experimentation and observation. In this case, science is not coterminous with rationality and the idea of "historical science" is an oxymoron, since history is not subject to direct, repeated observation or experimentation. Aristotle defined science as any field of rigorous study. This includes history, but also all other fields of rigorous study including theology (queen of the sciences), philosophy, and mathematics (mathematics is deductive, Baconian science is inductive). Is this case, science and rationality are much more closely related. It is not clear whose definition they are using and why they used the term historical science. If we are to clearly argue, we must either keep to the Baconian definition of science, eliminating history as a science, or make it clear we are using the Aristotelian definition and explain what that means and why it is useful.

I was making these arguments 40 years ago. How is it that this is cutting edge dialog? To science has always been an obligation to discern both what we know & more importantly be able to precisely distinguish it from what we don't know. I've never thought that science was incapable of pursuing with reason, logic, & a plethora of tools such as statistics, pure math, applied math, pursue things that seem to extend beyond those tools. We are therefore obligated to recognize when things extend beyond the material. Like emotions, atmospheres, & stimulation that cannot be sufficiently constrained by any tools of material measurement that we currently possess. There remains extensions into realms of perception that defy the material realm that we are duty bound to find a means of discussing, hypothesizing, theorizing methods of understanding that are sufficiently unconstrained by previous determinations so as to allow thought that is currently forbidden by having accepted into our minds & consciousness the idea that materialist ideology is loaded with false constraints every time you attempt to think beyond the veil of materialism. Constraints that insist on validating the illusion that non-material experiences are incomprehensible, undefinable, & therefore invalid. The also do this without having ever conducted experiments that prove the hypothesis - yet they're treating it, not as mere theory, but as undeniable fact. What could be more hypocritical than that? What arrogance says that, "despite my inability to answer certain questions I still maintain that I'm right in holding the position that they are unanswerable". Where's the basis for that determination? How did physical material prove that it's the only possible thing to ever exist? You have to define material as all powerful self sustaining thing - which means that the state of decay we see in the universe where inertia breaks down, where things are not sustainable in the material realm yet the hypothesis they bring is that the closest thing we have is a deteriorating universe that's so unstable that we're probably all doomed. Yet we see a universe of unimaginable movement & incomprehensible power holding planets in orbits & manages billions of stars, millions of galaxies, & they find no evidence of eternity while implying that eternity itself is real - but without the ability to even make that statement due to the contradictory ideology that observes two disparate phenomena & decides that they are one thing & the other an illusion. Their feeble minds have zero interest (or perhaps great fear) toward resolving that paradox. Instead they deny it's relevance & often it's very existence - like the elephant in the room. Yet we possess the capability of grasping the concept of eternity. Why would we have that capability? What is the point of being able to comprehend an idea or concept but have nothing in the universe that produced it to apply it to? If that's the case then we have quite a few faculties that are capable of both imagining how to use them but being able to conceptualize & describe our hypothesis - unless there are things that can be discovered in that zone of understanding? These people are the doctors that ripped out my appendix when I was 13 because they thought it was a useless organ. No it's an important secreter of colon disinfectant to keep the immune system strong. I want it back now that I know what it's for. They were too stupid to believe that, despite all the trouble someone went to to design an appendix, it's useless. The arrogance of scientists who think it's their job to constrain what is possible simply to protect their own pitifully weak ego's. They're so afraid of being perceived as not having all the answers - they prefer to hide that & force others to join them - than explore for answers that are uncomfortable to pursue. What hypocrisy, while living in a universe where materialists deny eternity by insisting that the material world is either eternal or nothing is eternal. They don't actually say that but that's the conclusion they are pointing to without having the balls to speak it out loud for fear of the utter futility of the idea being exposed. They can see that the physical universe is always in a state of decline - moving from order to disorder - & not the other way. We don't know if that's an illusion or whether it's actually happening. But will scientists admit their ignorance - NO. Not the materialists - which is why they get so blistering angry is that you're exposing what they are in denial of & that's what they hate - hate - hate - is being perceived as not knowing it all - which is the thing they are attempting to project as a collective group - the falsehood that the religion of science they have created is nothing more than an idol & they are mere idol worshipers - which is always accompanied by anger because idols are spirits that rule with anger, threats, & intimidation. God delivers with love, mercy, compassion, & peace.

I also watched your doc (Mining for God) recently with my family, and we really enjoyed it. Watching this video, I wanted to offer you one suggestion to possibly provide more value to your viewers. I think you probably could have paused the conversation more and offered a distilled personal take on these points, especially in more down to earth terms that would help the philosophically uninitiated to grab on and be challenged to go deeper. I suspect if this theory was true, you would see a certain degree of viewer drop-offs during some of the more heady discourse. And if you start tossing out life lines around those kinds of points, you would see greater retention. So, if you've already tried that and found this level of interjection to work best, feel free to disregard. Otherwise, worth a shot? Grace and peace!

Having the right knowledge and understanding is not a matter of science and intellect, but a matter of the state of consciousness. That's why we need to know that consciousness is not in our mind but in us, the spiritual Being, the Soul. Hence, consciousness is a spiritual and not an intellectual/mental category. All this says that true knowledge should be sought in internal and not in external realities. Even the knowledge that we already have in the external world was brought from internal or higher realities. If you study the methods and techniques used by many, the highest scientists, you will discover how they transmitted or brought knowledge from higher realities. Today, there have been books about this for a long time, but most people are not ready to turn to them and study them thoroughly. A huge number of people already know that we are immortal beings, but few of them want to go beyond that. There is absolutely no secret, however, everyone must step into higher states of consciousness to wish or have the need to step out of their own framework and step into true knowledge and understanding.

That is, they are not opposites, but rather parts of the same whole; progressions of the same idea; cycles of the same energy; aspects of the same immutable Truth. If you conclude from this that past, present, and future exist at one and the same "time," you are right. (Yet now is not the moment to discuss that. We can get into this in much greater detail when we explore the whole concept of time - which we will do late.) The world is the way it is because it could not be any other way and still exist in the gross realm of physicality. Earthquakes and hurricanes, floods and tornadoes, and events that you call natural disasters are but movements of the elements from one polarity to the other. The whole birth-death cycle is part of this movement. These are the rhythms of life, and everything in gross reality is subject to them, because life itself is a rhythm. It is a wave, a vibration, a pulsation at the very heart of the All That Is. Imagination - Process of Pure Creation The process of creation starts with thought - an idea, conception, visualization. Everything you see was once someone's idea. Nothing exists in your world that did not first exist as pure thought. This is true of the universe as well. Thought is the first level of creation. Next comes the word. Everything you say is a thought expressed. It is creative and sends forth creative energy into the universe. Words are more dynamic (thus, some might say more creative) than thought, because words are a different level of vibration from thought. They disrupt (change, alter, affect) the universe with greater impact. Words are the second level of creation. Next comes action. Actions are words moving. Words are thoughts expressed. Thoughts are ideas formed. Ideas are energies come together. Energies are forces released. Forces are elements existent. Elements are particles of God, portions of ALL, the stuff of everything. The beginning is God. The end is action. Action is God creating - or God experienced. Conversation With God - The Holy Trinity You are a tree-fold being. You consist of body, mind, and spirit. You could also call these the physical, the non-physical, and the meta-physical. This is the Holy Trinity, and it has been called by many names. That which you are, I am. I am manifested as Three-In-One. Some of your theologians have called this Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Your psychiatrists have recognized the triumvirate and called it conscious, subconscious, and super-conscious. Your philosophers have called it the id, the ego, and the super ego. Science calls this energy, matter, and antimatter. Poets speak of mind, heart, and soul. New Age thinkers refer to body, mind, and spirit. Your time is divided into past, present, and future. Could this not be the same as subconscious, conscious, and superconscious? Space is likewise divided into three: here, there, and the space between. It is defining and describing this "space between" that becomes difficult, elusive. The moment you begin defining or describing, the space you describe becomes "here" or "there." Yet we know this "space between" exists. It is what holds "here" and "there" in place - just as the eternal now holds "before" and "after" in place. These three aspects of you are actually three energies. You might call them Thought, Word, and Action. All three put together produce a result - which in your language and understanding is called a feeling, or experience. Your soul (subconscious, id, spirit, past, etc.) is the sum total of every feeling you've ever had (created). Your awareness of some of these is called your memory. When you have a memory, you are said to re-member. That is, to put back together. To reassemble the parts. When you reassemble all the parts of you, you will have re-membered Who You Really Are. GOD THE FATHER is knowing - the parent of all understanding, the begetter of all experience, for you cannot experience that which you do not know. GOD THE SON is experiencing - the embodiment, the acting out, of all that the Father knows of Itself, for you cannot be that which you have not experienced. GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT is being - the disembodiment of all that the Son has experienced of Itself; the simple, exquisite is-ness possible only through the memory of knowing and experiencing. This simple being is bliss. It is God-state, after knowing and experiencing Itself. It is that for which God yearned in the beginning. Of course, you are well past the point where you must have it explained to you that the father-son descriptions of God have nothing to do with gender. I use here the picturesque speech of your most recent scriptures. Much earlier holy writings placed this metaphor in a mother-daughter context. Neither is correct. Your mind can best hold the relationship as: parent-offspring. Or: that-which-gives-rise-to, and that-which-is-risen. Adding the third part of the Trinity produces this relationship: That which gives rise to / That which is risen / That which is. This Triune Reality is God's signature. It is the divine pattern. The three-in-one is everywhere found in the realms of the sublime. You cannot escape it in matters dealing with time and space, God and consciousness, or any of the subtle relationships. On the other hand, you will not find the Triune Truth in any of life's gross relationships. The Triune Truth is recognized in life's subtle relationships by everyone dealing with such relationships. Some of your religions have described the Triune Truth as Father, Son. and Holy Ghost. Some of your psychiatrists use the term super-conscious, conscious, and subconscious. Some of your spiritualists say mind, body, and spirit. Some of your philosophers say a thing is not true for you until it is true in thought, word, and deed. When discussing time, you speak of three times only: past, present, future. Similarly, there are three moments in your perception - before, now, and after. In terms of spatial relationships, whether considering the points in the universe, or various points in your own room, you recognize here, there, and the space in between. In matters of gross relationships, you recognize no "in-between." That is because gross relationships are always dyads, whereas relationships of the higher realm are invariably triads. Hence, there is left-right, up-down, big-small, fast-slow, hot-cold, and the greatest dyad ever created: Male-Female. There are no in-between in these dyads. A thing is either one thing or the other, or some greater or lesser version in relationship to one of these polarities. Within the realm of gross relationships, nothing conceptualized can exist without a conceptualization of its opposite. Most of your day-to-day experience is foundationed in this reality. Within the realm of sublime relationships nothing which exists has an opposite. All is One, and everything progresses from one to the other in a never-ending circle.

About 50 years ago when I was 13 or 14 years old I came to the conclusion that what science can't answer religion can and what religion can't answer science can so they should be working together for deeper understanding.

Exactly, religious superstition will always fill the void of the unknown. There isn't really anything spiritual about most religious texts anyway as they were just written to corral a population under the control of their rulers over the time. Abrahamic religions mostly function as a means to govern a population through indoctrination. Religion is probably one of the most evil forms of social manipulation that has ever been devised.

People need to recognize that “science” is simply a disciplined process of asking questions primarily for the purpose of discovering a hint towards what could be the most appropriate follow up questions.

Just because something is beautiful doesn't mean there must be an entity of creation responsible for its design in divinity. Nature is simplistic and so is its manifestation or expression. Nature is divine.

“In his haughtiness, the wicked man makes no investigation; All his thoughts are: “There is no God.”(Psalm 10:4) “The foolish one says in his heart: “There is no Jehovah.” Their actions are corrupt, and their dealings are detestable; No one is doing good.”(Psalm 14:1)

*CONSISTENT and REPEATABLE EXPERIENCE is the BASIS for ALL SCIENTIFIC REASONING.* *Creation of new information is habitually associated with conscious activity. Our uniform and repeated experience affirms there is only one type of cause that produces information and that is always an intelligent mind. If there is a code (DNA), there is always a coder. (Information Theory: Sender and Receiver)* *A skeptic is not simply a contrarian, but a true skeptic challenges things which even they themselves think they know, while simultaneously being willing to accept to change their mind when fair evidence is presented. "Intellectual Honesty": Objective truth is true regardless what we believe.*

Just like the Mandelbrot fractal the further you go the more you discover... this looks very much like a Mandelbrot section... beautiful... !!! Intelligent design is God... and all form is 'of God'... consciousness produces form.. amazing time to be alive !!

Well, considering you and your RU-vid heros can't even begin to offer the tiniest spec of verifiable evidence that ANY GOD HAS EVER EXISTED, I think that without god, you're getting ahead of yourself thinking there is any divine design. What you do have however, is centuries of delusion. Congrats!

Fractals are simple recursive formulas. If anything, they prove that no "god" or "intelligence" is needed in order to create complex patterns... just like the ones in nature...

The issue is not the evidence, but the heart. The issue is the bondage of the unregenerate will resulting in the refusal to believe the evidence.

There are TWO beginnings 1 - Before Time : It is called the Knowledge of Existence ( ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE BASED ON ALPHABETS & LETTERS ) 2 - As Time Begins : It is the Knowledge of Creation ( NUMBERS, SPIRITS & TIME ) Summing both in Human Creation 3 - CREATION OF MAN ( KNOWLEDGE OF THE NAMES )

First of all, great mustache. Second of all, incredible masculine style. The throwback nature hats are sick. Thirdly, thank you for your faith in The LORD our GOD, Jesus Christ. And thank you for helping us think comprehensively and critically about these topics for it is a real blessing and help in discussions with friends who are very intelligent but reject Christ and scripture on the basis of theoretical fantasies that truly have no support. Like a dollar being backed by…… money printers…. Paper thin statements being backed by paper thin rational all in order to escape the reality of God and His eternal judgement. It’s wonderful. Thank you.
