So busy watching Petrie mow down Thompson, I didn’t clock she goes in almost at the exact same time as van almsick and just drops her - it’s more than two body lengths by the end. Patrias butterfly leg was just monstrous.
As a team effort, these ladies and their selectors worked out a team to win. MY Australia with the next generation will be back to rule the water in mass.
Oh how I remember this race I think I screamed my lungs out - I knew when mother butterfly hit the water that was it - mother Petria blitz the field baby she blitz it girlfriend
That’s Petria Thomas in her last race at that level. Still holds the fastest butterfly split in any relay medley. I just love this team so much and esp her ❤️
I had forgotten this! When i saw the names in the USA team I thought, "Holy shit! No way even a great Aussie team would overcome that." That was a white-hot American team - which just shows what great form these Aussie girls were in.
Petria Thomas is just incredible. Handed a full body-length deficit at the 200m mark, and then just completely destroys Jenny Thompson’s lead, and hands over to Jodie Henry with a lead.
Thompson is the female swimmer with most Oly golds in history yet: Thomas 2.14 secs faster than Thompson - 56.67 to 58.81 Henry 1.34 secs faster than Joyce - 52.97 to 54.31 Just under 3.5 sec turn around in two legs. Absolutely astounding swimming from two of our least known greats.
10 of her 12 medals are in relays. 12 medals regardless is a HUGE accomplishment but compare that to Coughlin who also has 12 medals and only 7 are in relays.
@@XDF745 She did win Gold in the 100m Butterfly and Silver in the 200m butterfly at these games. So your statement is far from correct and incredible relay swimmer might I add
@@Lishmaa The comment I was replying to is talking about Olympic golds so my comment is 100% correct. "Thompson is the female swimmer with most Oly golds in history yet:"
Awesomeness by Petria - difference between a butterfly specialist and Jenny Thompson who was a relay specialist. Liesel Jones was great too, Amanda Beard knew Liesel was tracking her down the whole way. I always liked the Aussies chances in a medley relay when Liesel was swimming the breaststroke
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uBvgMCvOyLY.html the commentary is in Spanish, but the only one I can find at present. Have you tried olympics.org??
Seems she doesn't want to swim anymore, which is a shame. Same thing happened to Thorpe when he took time off/got injured. Cate Cambell should be able to do the job on steffen I think.
who's has the best actual woman's medley relay ??? Who beat that short course medley relay at Duel in the Pool in 2011 ? the team with Caughlin , Soni , Vollmer and Franklin ! period
Lol. this isn't about that. this video is about the Athens Olympic event and the come from behind victory that Aussies love and respect so much. And bear in mind Australia has a smaller population than Texas. That's a LOT less people to choose from, yet we still go toe-to-toe with the US in the pool. Could the US still put together as powerful a team if they only had the people in Texas to choose from?
I am sure that if the U.S.A hadn't stolen Mexico's territory in 1847, and Mexico would have been conquered by Germany and not Spain, I would have been twice taller and Mexico would have been a super power, and I would kick everyones' butts XD *sarcasm* Don't come up with shitty excuses please, Petria rocked!!!
@markguest36 Australians are just coming back with the men's relay , otherwise where are they on relays ???? woman's relays ? men's 4by 200 relay ? nowhere bro , nowhere yet .
hahahahah michael phelps went a 4:03 in his 400 im. It's crazy that if he swam that race next to these girl's relays he'd beat them (at least to their prelim times) jeeez
What are you talking about? USA beat the WR in London on this event and many others. Aussies weren't much of a competition, so I don't know what Olympics you were watching. USA still holds the record in this event & many others. Those are facts, not excuses.
