What Is The Cost Of Living In Greece? I did a video in 2019 looking at the the food costs in a Lidl Supermarket in Athens. Now I came back 4 years later to see how much inflation has increased food prices at the same Lidl Supermarket in Athens. I compare some of the food prices from 2019 to now in 2023.
The Lidl supermarket is a large German discount supermarket and operates over 200 supermarkets in Greece. To get an idea of the true cost of living in Greece, see the prices of common food items in my Lidl grocery haul. This Lidl supermarket is in the Kato Patissia area of Athens Greece which is not an expensive or touristy area so the prices should be what regular Greeks pay for groceries.

Thanks Nick! Some stuff from Lidl is almost the same from Sept 23 - Mars 24 in Gothenburg, Sweden but some is just going up, up and away!!! Olive oil, milk, cheese, fruit & veg........it`s insane when inflation hits!

@@ToGoIsToKnow Yup and now it`s jojo prices again and Lidl is doing something about it. You can get -12% vat off your vegs+greens some days.

In Greece, this German chain has become a synonym of low quality. For example, if we want to say that a politician is not serious, we can say "A politician from Lidl". 😁

Many prices are similar to California. But, our minimum wage is close to $20/hour

Olive oil is like gold now, also that was not feta cheese it is called "white cheese" and its cheaper than feta(usually)

Poor yield across southern Europe seems to be the culprit. Italian and Spanish olive oil same story.

I was surprised how expensive the olive oil was in Greece. Usually it was much cheaper than the US.

Why wasn't he arrested?! This isn't the USA! In Greece, it's illegal to just walk around and film videos, especially in a store! And if you film the police, you'll go to jail! This is Hellas! 🤣🤣🤣

Being smug about the cost of grocery items - or any other general item, for that matter - being cheaper in the USA than in Greece, is tragic considering the US economy tanking domino-effects everywhere else. You recover easily because Bidenomics pushes inflation through the roof and goes down when a Republican gets in. Meanwhile, smaller economies don't have that luxury.

You think I went through all this trouble of filming these videos years apart, comparing the two, and editing them just so I can be smug? Nobody in the US is happy about the price of food or most things in the last few years. My videos are to share information and inform people.
