We went through Athens to Piraeus for various boats to various islands over the intervening years but nothing was familiar! That made it more special and a serious nudge that as soon as I have recovered from this current health challenge, best get on a plane!!!! Really looking forward to where next!!!
Επειδη εχω γεννηθει ζω κι εργαζομαι στην Αθήνα εδω και 59 χρονια θα ειμαι ειλικρινης σε όσους και οσες σκοπευουν να επισκεφθουν την Αθήνα.τα θετικα πρωτα: Οι κατοικοι στην πλειοψηφια τους ειναι φιλοξενοι και θα σας βοηθησουν οσο μπορουν και γνωριζουν για το τι ψαχνετε.το φαγητο ειναι καλο και γευστικο στα περισσοτερα σημεια. Το ιστορικο κεντρο εχει πολλα μνημεια,πολλα καφε,ταβερνες ,μπαρ και νυχτερινη ζωη. Εχει επισης πολλα εμπορικα καταστηματα απο ειδη ρουχων μεχρι αγορα με τοπικα προιοντα για φαγητο και για ολα τα γουστα με πολυ καλη ποιοτητα. Το μετρό εχει 3 γραμμες που εξυπηρετει αρκετα καλά, ενω υπαρχει και το τραμ που φτανει μεχρι τις παραλιες της Γλυφάδας και της Βουλας.η Αθήνα και ο νομος Αττικής στον οποιο ανηκει, διαθετει παρα πολλες ομορφες και για ολα τα γουστα παραλιες σε απόσταση 1 ωρας με αυτοκινητο και λιγο παραπανω σε χρονο αφιξης σε αυτες τις παραλιες με το λεωφορείο. Η Αθήνα τον Αύγουστο ειναι αδεια απο Αθηναίους λογω των διακοπων του καλοκαιριου και η κινηση ειναι ελαχιστη. Τα ξενοδοχεία αλλα και τα ενοικιαζομενα δωματια τα περισσοτερα ειναι καλα. Οι βροχες απο τον Ιούνιο ως και τον Σεπτέμβριο ειναι πολυ σπανιες. Τα αρνητικα: εκτος απο τις τουριστικες περιοχες,οι δρομοι και τα πεζοδρόμια δεν ειναι καθαρα.προταιρεοτητα σπανια δινουν οι οδηγοι στους πεζους ακομα και στις διαβάσεις και γι αυτο χρειαζεται μεγαλη προσοχη. Αν οδηγειται αυτοκίνητό η προσοχη πρεπει να ειναι πολυ μεγαλύτερη απο οτι εχετε συνηθισει στις χωρες σας. Η Ελλάδα ειναι πρωτη στην Ευρώπη σε τροχαία δυστυχηματα. Υπαρχουν μερικες περιοχες κοντα στο κεντρο που δεν πρέπει να περπατατε τη νυχτα για να πάτε ειτε στα δωματια ειτε στα ξενοδοχεία και καλο θα ηταν να χρησιμοποιειται ταξι. Ταξι να καλειται μεσω εφαρμογης ή να επιβιβαζεστε στα σημεια που σταθμευουν. Η θερμοκρασια στην Αθήνα για 3 μηνες δεν πεφτει κατω απο τους 30C° και πολλες φορες φτανει ευκολα τους 40C°. Στο κεντρο ειδικα δεν πεφτει ουτε την νυχτα κατω απο τους 30. Σε καποια τουριστικα σημεια παραμονευουν κλεφτες πορτοφολιων και τηλεφωνων κυριως στο μοναστηρακι την ομονοια και γενικα όπου υπαρχει πολυς κοσμος οπως για παραδειγμα στο μετρό. Στον τουρισμό υπαρχουν οχι πολλοι ευτυχως ,αλλα ωστοσο υπαρχουν, καποιοι που θα προσπαθησουν να σας χρεωσουν παραπανω στις αγορες σας ή στις υπηρεσιες που θα σας προσφερουν γι αυτο να ειστε προσεκτικοι και παρατηρητικοι. Και μια συμβουλη για καλο φαγητο: αν δεν μπορειτε να πατε σε περιοχες που δεν βρίσκονται στην τουριστικη ζωνη,παρατηρειστε τι και πως τρωνε οι ντοπιοι κυριως αυτοι που ειναι στις μεσαιες ηλικιες δηλαδη 35-50.

You talk about history, translations of words for culture, your own feelings, and take us on a journey that feels like I've actually learned something as well as seen the city through the camera. (Tips from a local). The Acropolis museum is convenient but the excibits are subpar. If you want the real stuff you go to the Athens Archaeological Museum where you will find ancient swords and armor from the Trojan War, the mask of Agamemnon, an ancient Greek analog computer, high quality statues from the Oracle of Delphi and much much more. If you are also into history and warfare you can also try the War museum, with excibits from the ancient past, Balkan Wars, WW1, WW2, aircraft, artillery pieces and so on.

In 1978 I was in Egypt. Went on a tour to Cyprus, Israel, Greece then Turkey. Had a blast! It was really funny showing up in Turkey with the last four Country stamps in my passport. Had two undercover police follow us for 2 weeks, we made friends with them on the second day and they became our unofficial tour guides. As soon as someone who desired to scam use they seen the two fellows in their distinctive clothes they wore, NO one hassled us
I'm the viewer that loves any kind of travel, but of course sailing is my preferred way of transportation. ❤⛵️ Any adventure either traveled by land or sea, is good with me! 👍
Welcome to Europe! We haven't been to Greece mainland but we adore Crete! Beautiful country, fantastic and very friendly people and wonderful food! Oh and lots and lots of history as you've found out! Although we love your boating video's its been great to see you out and about and exploring the sites. Both my girls are hungry now after watching that but don't feel I can rustle up anything as good lol. I think where you're headed next they did some famous films there - will have to look that up! Enjoy your time in Greece and we can't wait for the next one! Oh - PPS my youngest said the guards looked funny with pom-poms on their shoes lol.

It was nice to see the old part of Athens. If you ever go again try visiting the affluent beach side neighborhoods which lie east of the city center like Glyfada, Bouliagmeni, and Sounion which has an ancient temple similar to the Acropolis. Also the mountainous suburbs to the north like Kifisia.
We will be here for all the adventures 😁😁😁 this one was so nostalgic of a wild 48 hours I spent in Athens back in the day, 2018 so closer to the unrest, was proper wild. remember wild lil streets, amazing history and even better food! and a few sketchy memories haha
Hey guys what a difference land video's are from sea video's & probably more people can relate to land video's over sea video's but hey, whatever floats your boat right. Good to see you guys out & about in Athens & t,o see that magnificent structure the Pathenon & you walking thro Plaka which I thought was very unique. I must say that your filming whilst walking is fantastic as no camera shake at alll. Greece must be so special to you guys & its wheree you clinched the deal on Tucano in an Air B&B, Tight streets to navigate but fortunately you have a very small car. I can tell that you are really loving your 'now current life' on a boat in the Bahamas with lovely day temps & dressed to suit. Have a ball guys whilst I go for a shower & a 19C day in Melbourne. Love.

Wow Athenas has changed. I was the for 1 mth in 1979. Dumb to think it wouldn't, but all grafitti plus the crime. I thought it would become more beautiful with the restorations. And that is looking great. In 1979 the pathenon was bad, but the had started numbering pieces of the pillars etc to put them back. So 40 plus years later the work goes on. A blas from my past. Thank you.
