Empty just means it's emtpy of it's own indepandant origination, meaning it's not self created. Everything was created or is an aggregate some other things. Empty also means no matter. Empty = spiritual light (pranic energy plus consciousness). The self in Buddhism means ego, it doesn't mean the soul, because the soul is light, meaning the soul is "nothing" since it contains no matter.
