I cried watching this. I was born and raised in Atlanta---four years old when this film was made---and I live again just 45 miles north. It is SO sad to see so much gone yet I'll always have the memories. Thanks, Vintage Atlanta FB page for directing us here and to FT Depot for uploading.
Yes! It WAS what the great U.S. Southern city, Atlanta was. Even in the so called "turbulent 1960's" (which to me were more enjoyable), Atlanta was fun to visit for me as a Northern person born and raised in Indianapolis, when visiting relatives. This film is great! The scenes and music are wonderful! Atlanta is great still in some ways but...the "Southern folks" for the most part - left for many good reasons. That's the way it is...as that "stupid expression goes": "It is, what it is."
I was born in Atlanta and grew up no more than 10 miles from the city. I loathe to go there now. There is nothing Southern about it, black or white. Its carpetbagger-schemer and striver-central.
Great video. Brought back so many memories of growing up in 60 and 70s Atlanta. Proud to call Atlanta home, even though I was born in Columbus GA. Shout out to all you Atlantans and to the great churches and to our sports teams, Coca-Cola, Delta, and all the rest of the great companies represented here! God Bless all!
