I just realized when van gets confronted about stealing a wig. This was the wig. 😨 this episode takes place during the time earn is looking for her and blowing up her phone ! 😨😨
I find it funny that many people didn't like this season because for one.. it touched some real social issues and as a black man I understood it all!! yeah the first 2 seasons were goofy and somewhat touched on issues but season 3 was so surreal!!! it was very afro realism. I enjoyed season 3.
There is a book called "The delicacy of the negro" where it talked about Cannibalism and how it is popular in European culture. Especially during slavery. The elites cooked, bbq'd and ate people. It was an aphrodisiac. This whole season had alot of symbolism surrounding race and culture.
Wow, Bobby Readus Jr - you are so far the ONLY individual I know that has made this direct connection apart from this British Television Critic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eQHpXLWQctU.html
The title of the book you have mentioned is: "The Delectable Negro Human Consumption and Homoeroticism Within U.S. Slave Culture - Sexual Cultures" by Vincent Woodard.
I think the Tarrare reference is more literal. Tarrare was expelled from a hospital under the suspension of eating a toddler. So they called Van, Tarrare because she was known for buying human body parts for food.
One could easily argue that she laments being a side character, and in the end she's still second fiddle, because she has a child to return to, and that means being normal and not having adventures like Earn and co. Ultimately, Van will always be just a "normal" person, and that's okay, her denial of it, is the reason she both hates and loves herself.
That makes sense because if you go back to season 1 I believe when she has dinner with her friend from school and basically called her out stating she’s better than that type boring always did the opposite.
@@Sweeso I think it's true because at the end of this episode she wore that brown jacket. That's the same jacket she wore when she met Earn at the hotel all tired and relieved to see him.
Yea because Candace was saying Earn was blowing her phone up. Then that episode when he finds her again in the hotel. I think something big is going to happen with Earn and Van
It can't be unless the episodes are out of order in the episode where she steals the wig earn says "weeks with no response and you send me a thumbs up"
The entire show is surreal; season 3 is surrealism on steroids. And I love every single minute of it. 'Atlanta' works on dream logic, not waking world logic. Season 1 had an invisible car scene. Season 2 had naked white frat pledgees snap-dancing to "Laffy Taffy." Season 3? Khalil told the Europeans that racism will be over in 2024. I see complaints about season 3 as if it wasn't in tune with the previous two seasons. Surrealism is dream-ism. Oneirology. Think about the craziest dreams you've ever had over the whole course of your life, then watch season 3 start to finish. S3 ep. 1: At the end, Earn wakes up from a dream. Or does he? That's why 'Atlanta' has surpassed 'Twin Peaks.' See you in my nightmares.
@@wholography this season got me asking a hundred questions per episodes. Plus the unrelated episodes too. It's this finale that killed it for me. I thought they would make it make sense but I ended up adding two hundred extra questions to my list 😂. At this point I just prefer the unrelated episodes. the craziness in those episodes can be justified. I don't even know what to expect in season 4 but it better not be this.
@@collins4359 We as viewers are always looking for an explanation to things we don’t readily understand or comprehend, and we get frustrated, turned-off or straight-up angry if we cannot see the logic of it. I’ve learned to stop expecting everything to make perfect sense on the first viewing or first few viewings. I admit: I didn’t like the one-off episodes at first, but this last episode in season 3 tied together things neatly for me. It helped me appreciate surrealism and open-ended depictions-everything doesn’t need the closure we want. That’s my humble opinion.
I actually like the episodes they basically try to illustrate things that happen in real life and exaggerate it and add some comedy. But the difference between this season and the last 2 is just too much. It's like another universe entirely 😂.
I legit thought that’s where it was heading and I was so relieved it didn’t go there. I also thought Earn was gonna find the golden gun in the bag. This show is such a mind f**k
she created an alter ego and she was so into it until her soul urged her to go back to her daughter. van needs to find Jesus and learn how to be content. allot of people don't know what that means exactly- its to stop lusting after things you don't have especially alternate realities, or you'll miss what's right in front of you. i learned that the hard way, it can happen even with your partner or family, appreciate them while they are here.
That mean it flew over ur head were u on ur phone while u were watching the content has been way smarter this season u have to watch the episodes more then once
I think the episode was about people not knowing where their life is going. Van is living a fake life meanwhile girl getting flown to Paris to pee on a guy. What are they doing with their life?
I appreciate the adherence to dream logic throughout this season. I feel in those one-off episodes, we’re getting the main cast in different faces and in different situations. There’s a Black Earn and a white Earn-that’s enough proof to me that the one-off episodes were alternate versions of the main cast. You & everyone else don’t have to agree with that interpretation, but that’s what I see and I appreciate the direction of the season for that.
Wow this a great theory. With Al being Marshall Johnson - both character’s world changing very drastically very fast. Darius being Miles from the Trini episode as as curious doofus who embraces other cultures. And Van being Aaron, both struggling with their biracial identity. This is a great take on this season that I hadn’t even considered!
I didn’t really get this episode to be honest. I’ve enjoyed the season for the most part. I thought episode 9 was hilarious in a lot of ways. Those little side episodes that do not involve the main characters I thought were probably the best episodes of the season, but this last episode I really didn’t get
She actually stole the wig That actually was Skarsgard and he was a cannibal. Everything was real, she just happened to find a very weird set of people in Paris, she ultimately can't do it because she'll never be a main character, instead a sideline mom. Which is fine, but her denial of it wasn't.
There is something in here about not biting the hand that feeds you I don't know what it is yet but I do know that they were literally biting hands that were feeding them
Asking people to subscribe before actually hearing and seeing the content is so annoying.. IWouldnt be better to ask at the end of the video that way you can see if people really felt connected to content to then point they want to subscribe.
I was wondering why they left the house and everyone was in the car besides her …u really have to pay attention to the show because each episode’s doesn’t follow up with the previous episode
I think also this episode touches on elusive boundaries set in relationships. The women on this episode were willing to do some strange things for men’s money or favor: fly to Paris to pee on someone, strip down naked for a celebrity, retrieve a package of hands from a dangerous neighborhood lol
Great that you thought of the association of the mutilations by the Belgian colonists to rich people eating the hands. That makes sense with the themes of the series.
The picture was of "White" Earn whos been a recurring character since the first episode of this season. He comitted suicide in the episode "Big Payback".
@2:39: pause it Can someone pls tell me wtf the pic in the background is???? (All the way on the left. Looks like a white face w/ black hair) So creepy. Kinda looks like van’s amelie character but🤔 idk. Is it foreshadowing that Van’s persona here is an act? Just a mask covering her true self? I could be going too deep in it but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe an image of Tarrare?
I'm sorry but this was the worst episode in Season 3. I didn't care for a Van stand alone episode. She been barely used this season. So why Donald Glover felt Van needed the Season Finale? Van was under a weird spell or something. I do like that Van felt guilty for leaving her daughter back in ATL tho. Season 4 will be better with the main cast together again.
In retrospect I feel like the bag m the postcredit scene is def ern shedding his "whiteness" something he was made fun of for in earlier seasons (and it was hinted at in ep 5 of season 3). I feel like this is def him getting rid of his old baggage
@@Jimmy1982Playlists I feel you. They were all good. This episode took a quick switch on Van because she’s barely here and there throughout this season. It caught me by surprise as to how she donned a whole new persona.
In the words of Sir Charles. Turbul just turbul! Love this show not this ep or hardly any of Vans episodes. A finally so disappointed. There was one Jewel what’s up with the bag Ern received only reason I looked up a follow up vid. The rest put me too sleep.
I really don't get it. This is so unrealistic. How is it possible to beat someone with a baguette without being brought in by the police? That guy could easily overpowered Van. Can someone explain this to me? Are these situations real?
The end credits wasn’t about the white guy in photo... I believe it's about the children. That kid in the photo is the kid who goes to the black funeral. If you look closer. What if it goes deeper.
I like how episode 10 explored cultural appropriation. With van doing what white people do changing her voice and style and funding succsess under this guise
This was "the season of Van"?!? Fr?!? 🤣 I don't think so... and this episode is _by far_ the worst of the series - quite possibly the worst episode of any truly great TV series. I don't know if I'll ever be able to sit thru it again, honestly. I got _nothing_ from Van's character this episode that I didn't pick up on earlier in the season, except now she's incredibly obnoxious and her behavior is totally unbelievable. And I loved this season till now! Ps. I thought of _Succession_ as well at the dinner scene.
Facts. It only makes me hate her. Like it didn't do black women justice. She should have left van there. That kid is better off without van as a mother.
From what I got from it in an effort to reinvent herself Combined with the escaping of the life that was in her mind disappointing .... she created this character this persona who became a prisoner of a false freedom. Freedom is not evading responsibility or doing what you want when you to who you want want with whom you want but It's understanding And appreciating the choices and opportunities you have to be a better you.
I loved this season completely... till last night! It actually made me think that all you fans slamming this season may have a point. The showrunners certainly don't care about the fan's enjoyment - as Stephen Glover admitted in an interview that just came out.
this season was alright. I find it that they strayed away from the main purpose of the show, which captivated viewers in the first place. The main theme of the show is Atlanta. Its in the title and this whole season was filmed in Europe ( besides the anthology episodes).
