Hey all, thanks for the engagement on this video! With it being my first I'm super happy to see 1k views in the first 20 days! Correction: Something that I didn't catch until I uploaded was me incorrectly referring to *Nigerian Jollof* as Jamaican. A regretable script mistake I meant to correct, then completely overlooked. I am new to this so I'll be making quite a few more mistakes down the road I'm sure. Thanks for being here!

Season three feels disturbing and from time to time almost like a horror movie without any actual horror but still has the wierd athmosphere and humor it always had. As a younger viewer and also for the more unknowing or unaware watchers it always feels like anything could happen, and you never know what’s gonna happen in 20 seconds, 2 minutes or in the next episode. Honestly I really enjoyed the anthology episodes and wasn't that into the main cast ones since they felt kind of lacking, except for Van's because I liked how they dealt with the mental health element. S3 really made me feel like Glover should have done that Twilight Zone reboot because I feel he nailed the atmosphere and storytelling, and I'm hoping he does something similar in the future.

@KevinWidesouls Год назад
@@winstonrathey1461 The new twilight zone is pretty bad tbh. It lacked subtlety, and the twilight zone-y aspects weren’t inventive or memorable. It really wasn’t thought-provoking either, mainly because it picked topics that are discussed in a million other forms of media already (e.g. doing an episode on racist cops isn’t too impactful considering I can see actual, REAL LIFE racist cops on the news every day doing messed up things). On the other hand, a topic like reparations hasn’t really been depicted before. Sure, it’s talked about and debated on TV once in awhile, but I don’t know of any visual depictions of it or narratives/stories that center around it. That’s why the episode about it in Atlanta works so well. It’s more cutting edge and memorable than whatever the new twilight zone attempted to do.

This season’s my favorite tbh. Donald Glover said he wanted the show to be like Twin Peaks in terms of pacing and magic realism and this season perfectly captures that compared to the past two. Feels true-to-form rather than disconnected imo. I feel like ppl are disappointed by it bc they got used to the pacing and more in your face surrealism in season’s 1 and 2 but that’s jus because the writer’s hadn’t yet nailed down exactly what they were trying to do until now.

Overall, the season three was the weakest of the series. I did not like the anthology episodes. I understand they probably due to Covid, the actors’ schedules, or something else. Nevertheless, we could have fantastic episodes that character’s episodes presented. Take the Darius’ side story where he takes a reporter to a Nigerian restaurant. We could have an entire episode that explored more. Or have an episode that explains why Earn left Harvard. An episode that shows Van’s mental breakdown before she joined the others in Europe. You can have meaningful messages while providing wondering character moments. There was some potential but it was lost. I still respect those who love season three. For me, it could have been great.

I definitely see the merit behind the points you're making. I think a lot of why they took this season in the direction they did can be explained when considering that the primary cast has much busier schedules now. So while it's a technical answer and doesn't feel as good, I have a feeling that is why we got these "anthology" episodes. You're right that we lost some connection to our main character this season.

Here's a new hot take on Sesson 3. It hits different because it's an Addendum to Season 2. It takes the bizarre of season 1 and expands on it as well. It goes into Afro Surrealism. One RU-vidr stated that the characters know something is wrong. Its further emphasized by the first scene of the season with the black man something doesn't seem right. Think of the beginning of each season is the start of a thesis and the end is a "Well, what have we learned?" Season 3 ends in a bizarre sour note taking its own formula and turning it on its head. But you can say "Rich Wigga Poor Wigga" can be the "What have we learned." Moment with Aaron literally giving us the audience a glance. To wrap up the season. But at the same time it erupts Van's character as an addendum to "Helen" and "Champaign Papi." We also have to realize that some of these anthologies weren't all dreams. They happened. It leaves the question "What state will Georgia be in when they return?" Remember that this world is different where Donald Glover exists as a seperate entity than Earn, Justin Bieber is black, Michael Vick, races people outside of clubs as a hustle, and invisible cars exist. Most importantly season 3 is Wish fulfillment.

For me the differences between Season 1 and 2 are noticeable but the difference between Season 2 and 3 are drastic. I really enjoyed Season 3 cuz it was the 1st time I watched Atlanta with my mom. As I tried to explain the show's dynamic and normal flow the show kept throwing us curveballs and that was really cool. It kept me from being able to predict or see the ending coming and it was refreshing to just be like dafuq just happened?! Are they eating that?! Did she really just do that?! However, I wouldve been pissed off having to wait weeks for an episode that actually advanced the storyline. I got into this show after it was all over, thankfully, so I was able to binge everything.
@MitraKesava
@MitraKesava Месяц назад
Waiting week by week definitely has it's disadvantages but at the time of Season 3 airing being able to reflect on each episode is what led to me being inspired to make this video in the first place. Currently going through the weekly format with Shogun has got me doing the same and I'll have a video on that soon now that it just ended. When comparing that to Fallout which dropped two weeks ago and I've already binged all of I think I can say I prefer the weekly format at the time of airing. It allows for the conversation to be spread out and keeps everyone on the same page for a little while longer. Gotta say I miss the Game of Thrones days with friends hosting watch parties and the twitter chatter after each episode.

I didn't know some of the episodes are based on true stories. even though season3 has less narrative about paperboy, I really enjoyed how they brought various thoughts into visualized episodes. some are bit gross, intensive but deep and intersting at the same time. I have a respect to the writers and producers. can't wait to watch the next season! and by the way thanks for your recap!!

Nitpicking to increase engagement. I don’t believe Sharon bought the restaurant from the chef. (They never connected.) She bought the BUILDING from the landlord, and evicted the restauranteur, thinking she’d do it herself. Then realized that food trucks were more lucrative with more growth potential and outright closed the restaurant. (She’ll rent it to another gentrified business in time.) Even IF her misplaced new-found appropriative love of Nigerian food is genuine and “good,” her business tactics are diabolical.

Ha! Love that you used Tony on his horse in the living room from _The Sopranos'_ "Test Dream" for the Surrealism tag... I loved the third season of _Atlanta,_ as well (except for the last episode, unfortunately 😕)! As a light-skinned Arab-American, who is sometimes considered "white" and sometimes considered a racial slur, I couldn't agree more with this season's "thesis statement", as you properly named it. It's what I've thought so often, but never stated so well! _"We're all from some 'hood..."_ 🤣 Edit: Would love a video on Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers!

Atlanta is what it is because of the inclusion of the meaning social critical analysis into the everyday life of the characters. Even though the cinematography, style, direction and writing are on point on this one what makes it not as endearing as before is that those analysis are on those specific episodes and not centered around the characters and overall story.

This is a factor and a commendable one. See the folks on this thread whining about it not following convention focusing totally on the lead characters? It shakes up your ideas of what episodic TV should be and removes the comfortable path most are expecting. It is good to not be as endearing.

To me, this was definitely my favorite season of Atlanta. My slight complaint would be wishing that the one off episodes were they’re own show separate from this season. It took away from showing more of the main storyline, but they were all great. Overall, this season pushed the boundaries in every way a show can from directing, writing, acting, messaging, cameos. Every episode showed perspectives not shown on tv. Situations that are happening now, shown in a satire that can relate to things that have happened. They challenged the viewers in ways they haven’t done before. Some people probably won’t fuck with that choice. It was a creative choice that takes a lot of creatives to bring together with Donald Glover being the center piece to it all. This season was almost an extension to “This is America” to me. Idk if the guy mentions it in the video, but I felt that at the end of watching the last scene. Great season and can’t wait for the final season
@jadacampbell9331
@jadacampbell9331 Год назад
Not really. The anthology episodes add to the main narrative. These events took place mostly in Atlanta while the main cast was in Europe. For ex., earn is the beneficiary of the yt guy who was in the picture (finale outro), the same guy who died in the pool, and the same guy from the beginning of the s3 1st episode
@KinGAdil019
@KinGAdil019 Год назад
@@jadacampbell9331 I get that they tied into the main narrative. And I loved them. But for me, I would’ve liked it if it was separate. We would get a great one off episode, and the next main story episode would be ok compared to the one off. It wasn’t always the case, but that’s just I nitpick of mine
