The Atlas 4x4 is the successor to the much-loved Atlas 6x6 from ROCHobby, offering a 1:10 scale hardbody crawler at a tempting price.
Buy it here ($249.99): www.fairrc.com...
Imagine a truck with all the strength and ruggedness of a post-WWII multi-purpose vehicle stripped down and converted into a lean, mean off-road racer, and you get the aesthetic the folks at ROCHobby were going for here.
The Atlas 4x4 consists of a PC plastic truck body - available in yellow, orange-red, and navy blue - and a shallow cargo bed with a nylon rollcage, sitting on a metal ladder-frame chassis. It boasts tons of scale features, such as chrome-plated bucket lights, a hitch at the back, a sturdy bumper with plenty of space in behind to fix a winch if so desired, regional license plate stickers, and smoke stacks. Completing the look are some "Mud Master" decals, a spare tire (120mm all-terain) that can attach to the rollcage, and even a couple of fire extinguishers (unfortunately not functional).
To enable a lower price-point, ROCHobby has omitted luxuries such as an interior and openable doors and hood - a fair trade-off in our opinion. The quick-release body is attached by a hinge at the front and easily lifts up when applied with a little pressure, revealing a 35T 550 motor with a good amount of torque and a tray for a 2S lipo battery (not included). The tray is on the small side, so take note of the measurements before choosing your battery. Another item that doesn't come in the box is a band to keep the battery in place. It's advisable to find something that does this job before you take the Atlas out on the rocks.
The Atlas 4x4 comes with all assurances of hobby-grade quality that you would hope for - a four-link suspension system with oil-filled shocks, a robust metal frame, a full set of metal gears, and a full set of pre-installed ball-bearings. These features, along with a 2.4GHZ radio system, provide a solid and enjoyable rig that is ready to go right from the off.
If you're on the hunt for an attractive and affordable 1:10 crawler, whether its your first foray into this territory or you're looking to bolster your collection, there's really no need to look further than the Atlas 4x4 from ROCHobby.

I want a blue one. I`ve been slobbering over this truck. However, I live in a retirement community and can`t take any chances with lipo batteries. There are no activities for the guys in this place, so I want to get into this hobby. $250 is a little above what I can spend, but I`m saving for a good rock crawler.

If you bring the atlas 6x6 in 1/10 scale or 1/8 scale I will get myself in debt to buy it with a bigger battery than 800. Maybe a 1200 size battery would be great too! Must be capable as the current atlas 6x6 and I would be willing to pay extra to have a rochobby interior finish! All the details. I think it would be a home run and keep it waterproof! That being said this is a beautiful truck and color

You're right, that would be a great thing. Hopefully one day it'll happen!

If you want one I would recommend getting it anywhere else than Fair RC. Especially the package deals. They canceled the Atlas 6x6 ("fathers day deal") that was supposed to come with this and refunded only a fraction of the funds to get one.
