This might surprise you, but not every square inch of the state has direct drainage to a reservoir. And you might find this especially mindblowing: unusually large storms no one can predict may overload what the infrastructure was designed to handle and cause flooding 🤯🤯. The priority in events like this is to remove water from streets, prevent damage to property, and potential loss of life. Hence why the water is drained away from people to rivers, the ocean, floodplains, and yes resevoirs. Civil engineers know what they’re doing… you do not

Thanks for the updates. Watching from the Philippines where we get a couple typhoons 2-3 times/month during the season. Lived in CA and experienced some of these huge storms also.

It wasn’t much fun here today in San Rafael, my lower story is flooded and the ceiling in one room collapsed with water from the roof. I didn’t realize that I needed a new roof because it hadn’t rained for so long, and I can’t get up there to look.
Scary! That same thing happened to my sister at a theatre in San Francisco. In the middle of watching Dune the ceiling collapsed from the rain. It almost hit an old lady.

If the reservoirs aren't about to spill over, how are they "running off" water? Pessimistic, conspirarcy, cynical thinking people get on my nerves! It seems it's ALWAYS negative people! So I am to believe that they are capturing water and then directing it to the ocean? Or, they are opening the low water filled resevoirs and letting out water? I can imagine the flooding and mud around my home I sold last November in Sonoma county. I'll get some rain from this tomorrow night in northern Arizona. February of 2017 was the last time rain of this magnitude hit the bay area
I live along the Russian river, we are prepared for this, it has flooded here many times and we welcome this rain over the fires! Just be safe out there 😎

Atomospheric river is a crap term. All the runoff from the roads and the buildings and the parking lots is why there is so much water. This reporting is digital cancer.
@@rimc8783 im certainly not a meteorologist, but consider this, the more rain there is, the more grass,weeds,plants shrubs grow, eventually becoming fuel for fires during hot dry windy months and ofcourse lets not forget about defunding forest management.
