You could literally create infinite resources her powers should be researched and used by the world to eliminate all problems pretty much especially poverty
He defended someone who cheated on his own daughter and was about to call her a bitch for not forgiving him. A good father would comfort her, not defend a man who hurt his daughter.
Knowing dads, most probably don't have the capability of saying what they feel, but I think what he's trying to say is "Please don't go, I want you to keep safe and take care of yourself" Parents worry for their kids. Not every parent, but this one does.
@@robertthreadgill5356 Was her mom that bad too? (Haven’t watched most of the show) Too me it looked like she was the better parent, but she was too scared to stand up and say something
Since the Atom Eve episode I can understand the Parents more too. They already experienced it how it is to lose a Child. For them this traumatic situation became miracle because "Samantha came back to life". They just don't want to lose their daughter again. They only have her. But in the end.... They still emotionally abused her. It's really tragic and I don't know what could help them so they could grow back together as a family.
@@vicente2044 oh big time. And just the way he even talked to her about this whole thing was wrong. What really broke eve was when he said "the worst day of my life was when you got powers" that right there broke her heart and you can see it on her face. Dying in the hero profession comes with the territory just like a soldier or a cop or a fire fighter. When a parents kid joins the military or a the police or a fire station, there's this pride that comes with it. You're helping people when they need it. Sometimes it's a thankless job but you're making the world or your area a better place. The way they did this was just flat out wrong.
After watching the special: Feel bad for her mom. Her dad is just kind of an A-hole, but you can tell her mom really tries. She loves Samantha, and desperately wants to be as understanding as she needs her to be, but unlike the father, she knows she can never understand her, because Samantha is just different. Her dad resents Samantha's powers, but her mother resents herself for being unable to give someone with those powers a home where they felt welcome. I think that's why she was more saddened than angry with her for leaving here; deep down, she knew it was the right choice for their daughter.
@@GweiTheLeafChild Considering the comic writers are changing stuff in the show that they don't like about the comics in retrospect that might no longer be true
The mom is just as bad…those two are just two heads of the same monster of an abusive family. She just had more tact to not display her true colors…she did nothing…but made her seem like a refuge for a not ok living situation.

@cole brock by the time of the Watchmen film Doctor Manhattan was basically a God he could do almost anything but eve could make anything but she couldn't grow size or create life
@cole brock true but Doctor Manhattan has displayed 3 abilities Eve has never done before and probably never will first creating the dc entire universe 2 travel through time and 3 altering the fabric of reality but you are right she is Doctor Manhattan equal in everything else
@@dangk3405 she can manipulate atoms. So I am pretty sure she create the treehouse by rearrange the atoms from the air into atoms of woods so that she can build her structure. In X-men scale, she would be an Omega level mutant with reality bending power and telekinesis, plus immortality. Tbh, if she really went all out, Omniman’s people shouldn’t even be able to stand a chance, since super strength is a lower tier super power compare to reality bending.
@@takatathien do the comics explain why she can't manipulate the atoms of living creatures? To me, it sounds like her power should borderline god. If her powers worked by what I simply read here, she could just dismantle anyone and anything with zero effort.
Why I love about this show is that in the follow up scenes you’d expect her to feel lonely or regretful but no, she’s content. This was the right choice for her to make
"The worst day of my life was when you got powers" Many misinterpret this quote by saying it's poor writing but they also don't see how his father wanted to elaborate on that but realised he went at it the wrong way. It is not the powers themselves he hates as they are part of what his daughter is, as a human being but rather the responsibilities and consequences these powers force a person to have and bear.
Honestly i wouldnt want my kid to have superpowers either. Its clear that in this show superheros get wiped out pretty easily. I understand where he's coming from, i would be so scared for her :|
that one line "wow, that hurts much more than i thought it would" brings so much depth and history to this relationship. she knows what her Father wants, she knows that he hates how much danger she puts herself in, but she still hasn't confronted him about it. neither of them have, until this moment, when it's far far too late. all of that from basically one line brilliant writing. The father here was so obviously caring for his daughter, he just didn't know how. he wanted what's best for her without considering what she wanted, a trap far too many parents fall into. honestly a great and criminally under-developed relationship
She can literally win every battle single-handedly. Close opponents' eyes shut, make their limbs stick to their sides, and we haven't even started on fatalities.

After watching the Atom Eve special, I can say with certainty that she made the right fucking call! I mean seriously, screw her dad! Any parent that calls their own daughter a "freak" has no fucking right to tell their child how to live their life.
Yeah and her "dad" was about to call her a b****, that is where the line stops, especially talking about forgiving a guy that cheated on your own daughter. Dude, I'm not sorry, Eve is pretty much better off without the two of you, and after that "Atom Eve" episode, this hits much harder.
Honestly impressive how well written her father is as a complicated character He wants his child to be safe, and he's terrified for her life, but his emotions plus pre conceived mindset of how things should be means he's trying to stop her in literally the worst way possible and he's only hurting her. He's not a good guy, but he's not a bad guy either, he's a person EDIT: no i haven't watched the new Atom Eve episode yet, but if everyone is right and he's actually a piece of shit then i retract my previous statement EDIT 2: Ok so watched it and yeah, defo more jackass than good guy, like sure he cares to an extent, but seeing how he was throughout her childhood, it feels simular to parents who hate how their child is "different" and tries to stamp it out of them, and being on the spectrum myself, thats something i can never tolerate.
He doesn't want to see his baby get killed like the other hero's. But you cant force things. I'm pretty sure he feels like hes losing control and doesn't know how to handle it.
I feel like too many comments are quick to paint him as sympathetic when he literally gives his daughter shit for being born with something she didnt choose and is grossly misogynistic, he ultimately doesnt care for eve as a person but rather her relation to him as his duaghter
@@voidpriest4659 He's pretty sympathetic but there's much less time devoted to it in the series. He's a lot more obvious in the comics and develops between this moment and Eve properly moving away which won't happen for quite a while.
But they aren't. His daughter has literal god powers, and he wants her to do nothing. Regardless of how you feel about danger or what not, no parent should ever want to take from the world someone that can literally do anything.

to be fair Mark's dad is also a superhero who should (in the best case scenario) look after his son when he's in trouble, her parents are just normal people who really cant do much if she gets hurt or killed
Unless it's a normal person who was enlightened I'm pretty sure everyone has the desire for superpowers even if it's just a simple one like deku's mom Actually I speculate that except for the sexist and mysoginist characteristics of the father another reason he's like that is also because he wants superpowers The point is normal people either adore or hate people with superpowers and the only way to fix that is for them to also get powers you can already see it in real life people hate the rich because they are poor there are some blessed people who got enlightened and use it to better themselves but most don't (by people it means everyone not just one person so don't bullshit me with the explain it to them so they get enlightened it just wouldn't work unless you brainwash everyone which is what happened in the legendary mechanic so they can fix discrimination which worked its more complicated that just saying don't discriminate one of the things they fixed is the people's sense of beauty after all one of the reasons why discrimination exist is because people subconsciously feel that others are ugly Also the ability used on this is called Contagious Ideology which is perfect for religions, stabilizing the country, and rebellions)

What Dad wants to say: I'm afraid you're going to take on too much responsibility and get hurt just like your teammates got killed in the line of duty and just like how the guardian were killed What he's actually saying: You getting powers was the worst thing that's ever happened to me, stay here get married have a family and try to live a normal life because you yourself are abnormal
You know now that we have seen Atom Eve’s past, seeing her dad dictating what HE wants for her…Eve has been doing that LONG a before her powers came. And she had to duck her head through A LOT. Losing a friend, her biological family that she never knew, siblings dying in her arms, all on her birthday. And to hear her dad saying the worst day of HIS life was the day she got her powers. All I hear is how bad this is affecting him, not literally asking Samantha how is THIS effecting her. She’s the one with the superpowers not her dad. I just wanna shout at him to shut up and listen to what your daughter had to go through all alone. Her mother did the best she could but at least SHE tried.
He is just worried for his daughter dying because of what happened with everything before he tried to convince her before and he is gonna probably keep trying to
Nah he thinks if he repeats the same things in a louder harsher voice than last time that she'll magically understand and "get it." She's not hard of hearing, he's not able to make his feelings cohesively clear enough. I don't think he fully understands his own tbh.
You know, this show, and by extension the comic, really kinda delve into what it means to have godlike power. Samantha's power can potentially make all of her father's concerns pretty much moot. Everything a decent paying job can give her, she can get without spending a dime, has shown when she Doctor Manhatten's up a pretty bitchin' house like it was nothing. She grow her own food, make her own appliances, everything a non powered person would need money for. What's most refreshing is that Samantha, unlike say Jon Osterman and Wanda Maximov, doesn't have any apparent mental issues or lack of humanity. She's just a girl who wants to help.
A very realistic dad. I know one and all three of his kids hate his guts. He brought misery upon himself because he acts on fear. Just because you worry about someone does not give you an excuse to be abusive.
Doubtful he actually worries about her, his "worry" is just a pretense to his actual sentiments of wanting a normal human daughter. Failing that, she has to at least live up to his model idea of a woman, and have a man in front of her to "protect" her.
@@GweiTheLeafChild I think it's easy to default to him being utter trash but people are rarely black and white. Some of the worst parents I've known had love that turned beyond toxic.
Well technically she doesnt ever need money on earth since she could create silver, copper, gold from almost anything, this also includes food, materials and tools. So she isn't ruining her life, rather she is untethering herself from those who hold her back and make her question her value
@@martimking1craft neither did eve. It shows how much of a child she is. There’s wisdom in listening to your parents and i don’t like how the show portrays it as some strength in not.
@@roberthays2883 There is also wisdom in not listening to your parents. It's called setting healthy boundaries. I don't like the idea that one should always listen to their parents at the child's expense. Parents can be unsupportive, judgemental, controlling, and even abusive. The best course of action is to cut ties and distance yourself, like what Eve did. And it takes strength to do so.
"The worst day of my life is when you got powers" I like how invincible doesn't even try to go for all of that hype-filled hogwash about heroes and doesn't create a fake conception of its own world. There's a realistic take on superheroes in a modern world and the issues it entails.
Eve is just that levelheaded when talking about a fresh start. And with her power and just the nature of her personality, she’s got it made, in more ways than one. Much more than half of others…
Samantha’s father reminds me of Rogue’s father, only that Samantha’s father really cares about his daughter and wants a different life for her. Rogue’s father was really cold, shunning his own daughter and all.
Her dad isnt bad or good or anything. He's just a person :/ I think he's the most realistic. Most of the time parents on TV are these perfect beings. But nah, this guy is real. Wants to protect his daughter.
@@ahhhhhh124 He sounds like a scared little conformist to me. I get he's scared for his daughter, but he doesn't get to decide what's normal or best for her. Ever.

They way she left her parent's house is very different than the comics. In the comics, she left a note to her parents saying "I'm moving far away, goodbye mom and dad" or something along those lines. She moves to build a big house in Africa in the comics instead of a tree house like Atom Eve does in the show. In the comics I think it was more inconsiderate, whereas the show she actually says goodbye to her parents. I won't be revealing the important stuff or giving away any spoilers, you guys should find out for yourselves or until the next season comes out.
It's a sad truth that some people can only think of themselves, and nature pushes parents to often want that for their kids because it's a survival tactic. But some people see themselves as just one life, and what matters is how many other lives they can save before they lose it.
Well the Dad May be a jerk but he’s right to be worried, I mean the Guardians of the Globe all got taken out, and heck even one Eves old teammates Repli-Kate sort of gets killed, like constantly-then there’s also what happened to Invincible, Black Samson, and Monster Girl who could have died, if it weren’t for them being saved by plot armor essentially.
But she's literally not fighting as a superhero any more. Her leaving is to try to help the world using her powers in ways that don't involve conflict. Which her dad refers to as hippy dippy bullshit. He specifically just wants her to go to college find a husband and become a housewife. He's quite wrong.

Spoiler from her origin story: These people are not her biological parents. She was switched at birth because her biological father wanted to protect her. Her biological parents' fates were.........horrifying, and that's an understatement, especially her mother's. It's been years and I still can't forget about it.
@@mario-yt1cu Here goes: I was 12 when I read it now I'm 18, so forgive me if I don't remember all the details. Basically, her father worked for people who wanted to use people as a weapon. Her mother gave birth to her, Eve was born with powers, when her father saw that his experiment worked, he changed his mind and didn't want them to use her as a weapon. So he switched Eve at birth with these people (their child died at birth). When Eve discovered she had powers, she decided to be a superhero, her father found her and told her not to use her powers (she didn't know that he was her real father yet). She didn't listen. Then, one day she was fighting a group of kids (her siblings) that were experimented on and gave up on, so they wanted to kill Eve because they were jealous of her. But her siblings were killed by the people who wanted use her, because they had her. It was revealed that her mother was used as an experiment to create more superpowered kids with powers (Eve's siblings). Her mother's was badly hurt, her fingers were broken, her eyes were plucked out, etc. (There's more I just don't want to say anything else 🤮). She must've been captured for years. When her father found out they were using his wife, he tried to shoot his former boss, unfornutely he lost his life. Along with her mother once they'd got their hands on Eve. This caused Eve's mental blocks to break temporarily and she used her powers to wipe their memories and turn them brain-dead. She regretted using her powers on vengeance, instead of saving her parents because her mental blocks were placed inside her again and it was too late to safe them. It's likely Eve hasn't told her foster parents that they aren't her biological parents yet. You can read her origin story if you'd like to, it's called: Invincible Presents: Atom Eve. It was really tragic. Hope this helps. She found out her real parents on her birthday, BTW.
Ironically, it’s because of the life she chooses to lead that she gets everything her dad wants for her, and more, he just never realised or couldn’t see that.

His Father is what every parents shouldn't be. Wanting the best and wanting your child to be safe is good but it's not your life. They have their own life. The more you try to tighten a grip aroun something, expect resistance. It also doesn't help that he didn't care about her daughter's feeling at all.
