Atomic Torpedo Imperial IPA 

Almost fell out of my chair six seconds in when you said 19.2% alcohol, but I get it, 19.2 ounce can. Thanks for the review, I think I'll stick with the regular SN Torpedo, which you turned me on to in a previous review (and I found on sale last week here in Chicago for $12.99 for a 12 pack). The lawn and background looks great as usual.

Great review Jay, I just bought a variety pack of Sierra Nevada IPA beers from Costco and this one was part of them. Even with the high ABV of 9.2%, I found this beer to be very smooth and drinkable. Not something to drink a full six pack, but a couple of them are a total joy. Cheers!!

I'm glad u mentioned the sweetness, because when I reviewed this I couldn't get over how sweet it was, I wanted more bitter but having said that this beer grew on me

I really liked this, I thought the sweetness was pleasant enough. But it is really well hopped. This is one of those beers I'd like to gently sip and ereally enjoy 👍🍻

It would be too much for me in Gulf Coast summer weather, especially sitting in direct sunlight..although in those conditions i'd probably prefer water to any beer lol. Give it another shot in 6 months.

There's some evidence that American colonials also brewed their own strong 9%+ abv beers for voyages for more practical storage purposes like with the history of IPAs. Could call these 9% doubles some voyage brews, longer lasting storage especially if bottled. Some maritime archaeologists have found incredibly early colonial beers in shipwrecks from the 1700s still bottled underwater and a few even tried some and mentioned they were incredibly strong, maybe more bitter from age, and slightly salty haha. This is pretty mind-blowing but there was evidence of man-made beer found in the Raqefet Cave in Israel in 2018 that dates back over 13,000 years ago or 13th millennium BCE, during the Natufian culture. Who knows how long brewing has been around. Probably some level of intoxicated inspiration to craft and engineer the process after enough discoveries of naturally occurring alcohol fermentation.

Fantastic beer! They have it here in NC! Regular Torpedo IS better, just my OPINION 😂 Look forward to hearing yours! YOU definitely do your research. Every time I try a new brew I always see if you have a review of it. NO ONE else does, apparently. I wonder what dish that recommend with it!

Maybe they are making them more drinkable for guys like me that don't like the bitterness that much.

I’ve been noticing a huge push in my area on the high ABV New Belgian Voodoo beers in single tall boy cans at gas stations…I almost wonder if beer companies are trying to meet some kind of new “premium bum juice” market segment

I did enjoy this beer (I had to buy a 15-pack from Total Wine in order to try it!) However, I do prefer the Tropical Beer Hug.

I wasn't very impressed with this one. Picked up a six pack canned within 4 weeks and I was expected a hopped up version of their regular Torpedo but boy was I wrong. This one was a little to sweet for my liking. Cheers Jay!

I prefer the 8.2 version, it was very drinkable. Still dig, this one but not as drinkable.

I thought it was better at the lower alcohol level because I felt that the bitterness was stronger. With 9.2%, it’s just a lot maltier and sweeter. I really don’t get the new trend with these high-alcohol “IPAs”; I remember when bitterness was the standard. Now, I’m told that I should not complain that an IPA is not sufficiently bitter. I have no idea what happened! Hahaha

Trying to mix in a 1 to 5 "star" rating with a 1 to 100 numeric rating is really being stubborn. I understand how you get the average but it really is not a good comparison. I'm still mystified how a beer on Beer Advocate can have a 100 rating with just average scores from consumers mixed in with very good scores. I think BA has a group of individuals that rate the beer and the ratings from customers are not the real score. I know when shopping that a 4 star rating means an A- not the score you give by averaging 5 stars into numbers. I would just say Untapped gives it a 3. Whatever or a 4. What ever. You will never see a 5 star beer on UT so your numbers will always be messed up. You are the only one that tries to be clever with the 1 to 5 star rating lol. But I'm sure, Jay will continue to be Jay and that's cool if you feel the need to make it difficult.

A decent Imperial IPA but not great.

Not impressed with it but good for a one and dun after the kids are in bed and days over
