Damn, I just stumbled on this now, I've had two motorcycles stolen in Austin, one on 4th Street, one in Mueller. The Kryptonite New York Noose is amazing and worked great. Also when they covered your bike they were definitely coming back for it. You probably had like two more hours before they came back for it. DO NOT TRUST GATED GARAGES!
I saw that. I filed a report the day it happened, it's now been almost 2 weeks with no follow up call. It's unlikely any action will be taken but I have to keep trying based on principle.
@@jinjotoms296Is local police funding done by the president of the whole United States? Wow, that’s a lot of paperwork for one person. It’s a wonder Presidents have time to do anything else at all!
*Note: If you use 'disc locks or chains etc: put a visual reminder on your handle bars/grips (ribbon/string etc) so you don't forget!! 'Saves very embarrassing moments! Great stuff Des.
That sucks! Sorry for you and your beautiful bike. A good reminder for us all to take extra precautions. Thanks for sharing. And look after yourself with these bandits around 🙌
How heartbreaking... but glad you and your bike are safe. Thanks for the great rundown on theft deterrents! Looking forward to seeing you back on her once she's fixed up.
Haven't checked in for some time and was afraid something bad had happened to you. Hope all is well and wish you the best in finding a replacement for your Triumph. You are missed.
I have the same bike, I highly recommend you to change your tires to the Scorpion Trail or the Angel GT. Your confidence over the bike will increase a lot! Once I changed them I could not believe how bad the stock tires were!
I'm glad your bike is getting fixed. My garage was broken into and the thieves failed to get away with my bike. Probably disturbed. The garage and the bike now have more secure locks. The latter with a mahoosive chain, like those attached to ships anchors. Plus an alarmed disc lock. I may have overdone the security now, but it's one less thing to worry about...
My cousins, Anthony & Rocco, were watching this vid over my shoulder. Send me the license plate # and pic of the upstanding gent that was attempting to abscond with the scoot. They say they'll resolve this issue for ya and make sure you're out of town for a solid alibi. The infuriating aspect of all this is that NOTHING will be done! Law enforcement can EASILY know who the person was in minutes. How? Easy, we ALL carry personal location devices aka PHONES that are tracked EVERYWHERE we go! All the cops have to do is run a search for triangulation hits in that area at the time your scoot was under attack. It's that simple. In case the humor wasn't obvious, I don't have cousins named Anthony & Rocco. Carry on...
Sorry to hear you had your bike Damaged, In the uk if your bike gets stolen the chance fo getting it back is very slim.I do hope you get your bike back in tip top order and enjoy your riding stay safe.
Frustrating but there will be a happy end. Just spent two weeks riding through France and Spain with a disk lock, chain and a cover but worrying every morning if I would come back to my bike and I did....Hope they catch them...Take care.
In the UK, where we also have a massive rise in bike thefts, we are moving towards shackles such as Litelok and Hiplok which use grinder resistant composite materials due to the increased use of portable grinders to cut locks. Even the biggest chain can be cut quickly in this manor. You cannot stop bike theft, we see them lifting bikes into vans in seconds. but with a combination of high quality locks, and trackers you can only hope they will look for an easier target. Sucks though..
Sorry that this happened to your bike. It is difficult to know what is best to do but I think you have pretty much reacted as best you can. Stay positive.👍
I miss making content:( unfortunately, my insurance said the bike was a total loss. I don’t feel comfortable buying another new one in chance that the same thing happens again in my parking garage. It might be a bit but I plan on making more moto videos!
@@moto_des Hey hope all is well. Just wanted to check in see if everything was all good, haven't seen a vid from you in a bit. Was the shop able to repair the bike, and will you still be making content here on YT?
It's sad experience but it's just an experience) I hope you solve all kind of problems with your bike and continue making vids) I have a question to you: have you already ride your bike at 80F+ ? can you tell smtng about the heat?
As you said bike theft is rife across the UK, its a sad day when you spend your hard earned cash, only for someone to target your bike and either take it or damage it during theft, I have a couple of bikes and use a disc lock on the back wheel when its parked up, along with an immobiliser and tracker.
I had the same issue (other than the drop) three years ago. Unfortunately, two months ago, they completed the job. Even though I had two disc locks with alarms on my bike. It was also in an apartment’s “secure” garage.
Totally totally sucks. I live in an apt complex here in Austin too, I got 2 chains before the bike was delivered and I wrap them through the frame and the forks at the top. I've come out to find my cover untied and messed with but the 2 heavy duty chains probably make it look labor intensive to deal with.
Hey Des! Im sad I came across your video because I just recently bought a street twin 900 and been scared to leave it in the parking lot(I live in a condo and its not gated plus my unit is nowhere near the parking lot😭). I have it parked in my outdoor patio but its a bitch to get it in and out. But looks like im going to be doing that no matter what. Not taking any chances.😂 Sorry this happened to you and glad they didn’t get a chance to steal it!
Yeah, I was wondering what happened to you Good to hear you were OK. Sorry about the bike thief and since it’s happened to you now hopefully it want happen again looking forward to your next video!!! A star is born !! Lol
Sorry to hear about your "event." Fortunately it didn't seem too banged up, as it could've been a lot worse. It's so unfortunate that there are some people that think it's okay to do this kind of thing. Like you, I would want it returned to pristine condition with nothing there to visually remind me that it happened. The ideal approach would be to have multiple protective layers active at the same time. If you're still shopping and are interested in a D or U-type lock, check out the Hiplok D1000, or the Skūnklock. These are the only two U-type locks I would consider. The Kryptonite chain and lock you showed is pretty good too. The Squire Padlock and Chain sets along with their Stronghold Padlocks are some of the best. And the Abus Granit Extreme XPlus series and their Power Chains also make excellent deterrents. Hope you're able to get your bike sorted soon!
Yes, I'm very fortunate to still have the bike and in decent condition. My engine guards worked well haha, but you're right I don't need a visual reminder. Thanks for the suggestions, at this point I don't think I can over do security. I will probably add 1-2 more, so this is helpful!
Be careful with disc locks with pins as sometimes just moving the bike will snap the pin. I know as I've done it. For a disc lock I use a Oxford Boss disc lock in the UK.
I had same they broke my steering lock on the bike but couldn’t get past my heavy duty chain that they didn’t notice around back wheel and frame I now added alam disc lock to front wheel
@@moto_des I know but still gutted that they damaged the bike anyhow all repaired now and enjoying the summer sunshine ☀️ look forward to your videos! All the best from London Uk 🇬🇧 xx
I’m absolutely gutted for you. As a follow up to all the great advice in your video. Try swapping out the stock ignition for Motogadget m-lock with RFID.
So sorry to hear about all this. It really must make you feel "violated" that someone tampered with and damaged your baby. Hope you're back on the road soon and hopefully they'll arrest the low life who responsible!
Sorry to hear all this. Do your rates go up if you get a bike stolen? I live in an apartment too, and keep my bike in a storage unit, luckily just across the street. But thats not fool proof either.
I'm not sure about the rates. A storage unit across the street is perfect! When I do get another bike and if I'm still in an apartment I would do the same.
Thieves always look for the easy target. Not sure if you can get them in the US of A, but get the new Litelok X3 will defeat multiple diamond disc grinders, and bolt croppers have zero chance.
I haven't bought another bike yet :( I do plan on coming back when I do though! It's a great bike, I feel like I will mostly likely get the same one again :)
Sorry to hear that your bikes been written off, but not surprising considering Triumphs ridiculous parts prices combined their dealership charges 😒. Short of hiring a 24 hour armed guard or wiring the bike up to the mains there's always a risk of some scumbag taking an interest in your pride & joy. Illegitimi non carborundum as they say in mock Latin. Wishing you well & hope to see you riding again soon.
If you pay for a parking spot with your apartment see if they will allow a "PODS" or a "Mobile MAXX" to occupy a spot. I think the Mobile MAXX has a steel security door rather than a roll up door like the PODS. Without something like a PODS you'll always be most vulnerable to a theft.
Yes, this is one of the bad things about any and every motorcycle. Even when people don't want to steal the bike, they love to sit on them and take pictures. Then, you have the real A-Holes.
"el hottie!!" just sayin.. homemade alarms are the best! there some "outside the box" alarm kits that have built in gps and ignition kill, tilt and shock out there. its a upgrade no one wants to invest in until...
They really do. Ugh, sorry to hear that. That's the worst part. We put time and money into our bikes and for it to be treated like that is so frustrating. I'm very thankful my insurance will cover my after stock mods, but I'm still out a pricey deductible , time, and stress of the situation. I hope you got your bike back to how it was!
A lot of the bike thefts and attempted bike thefts in the states are done by kids. I honestly think that disc locks and the like could lead to more damage done to the bike. Cordless grinders make short work of almost anything. A U lock while out, and a tracker are probably the best you can do at this point. The "kia boyz" type gangs are out of control because cops can't/won't go after them. There are "biker gangs" of these kids tearing up the streets on mostly stolen (dirt and street) bikes.
Some people will understand (and some won’t) your bike is your “baby “ you take the best care of it, keep it clean and service it regularly, just go above and beyond with anything pertaining to it and then some idiot comes along and try’s to steal it trashing it in the process. You can’t help but take it personal.
It really is! I have never felt so violated before. Seeing it in that state was more difficult than I would have thought. Also, just two days before I spent hours in the heat washing and detailing her. 😞
@@moto_des Exactly….!! Right there with ya. I am the same way. Park it in the garage when I’m home, at work I park it in a safe spot in the warehouse (to keep it out of the elements) and when meeting people on the weekends, I park and sit where I can keep my eye on it.
Someone stole my bike while I was at work, came out and thought my co worker were pranking me but nope, Someone walked up and literally just walked my bike away. I didn't have the steering locked so he just put it in neutral and pushed it. Made it up the road a bit and put in in some bushes parallel to the road...I guess hoping to come back later and get it. But called the cops and they got with my works security and got the security cameras and seen where he put the bike...luckily I got the bike back, he didn't damage anything. Just had dirt from where he laid it down in the grass....now I chain and disk lock the bike
Sorry to hear about the attempted theft. At least it was an attempt and they did not complete the job. Albeit your bike was damaged during this act. Maybe you can sue the guy(s) and get your deductible paid to you from that person or persons?
People suck! My Harley got stolen last year brand new complex downtown! Apparently followed me and came back later because my parking garage is underground! Came back broke every lock toon the bike ran there license plate the truck was also stolen found completely parted with all the parts in a bucket :(
Any bike can be stolen with enough time and tools. But you use locks and trackers so it's more inconvenient and time consuming, hopefully the thief will target someone else.
Currently waiting on the insurance claim. It’s taken longer than I was expecting. My bike has been in the shop and it won’t be worked on until they receive the insurance money.
shooot......so sorry, thats terrible. But if u have footage use it with whom it may, and if it was me I would share it online . Maybe something would come of it....I hate these things, so violating.
I know it was such an unsettling feeling., Unfortunately, my building will only release the footage to the police. Trust me, I asked a few times to see it. 😂
