Just picked this bike up. It’s the third bike I’ve owned after not riding for about 10 years. I’m def treating it with respect. Good amount of power here and I would not want someone with very little experience to think they can’t get into Some trouble on it. Love it. Beautiful bike!

I've really enjoyed you sharing your coming of age on the Street Twin. It's portrayed by many as a great entry level bike which it surely is, but I'm coming at it a completely different way. I recently turned 72 and bought myself a new Speed Twin 900 (AKA Street Twin) for my birthday. I've been actively riding motorcycles since 1966 so this is not an " entry" bike for me. This one is quite possibly my "exit" bike. I've lost a lot of my leg strength over the past few years and big heavy bikes with tall seat heights made riding precarious at best. I've just reached 600 mi. on my new best friend and have to say I love it. It's made riding fun again and it's all the bike I need to complete this final mission. Best to you and keep us up to date on your future adventures! Steve G. in NM

Very nice vid and summary. I've completed my motorbike driving license in November last year and bought Vitpilen 401 in March this year (44HP) and to be completely honest I was quite scared going for a more powerful bike. I applaud your bravery to go for the Street Twin 900 for its power and even more with your statute (I'm 5'10" with 200lbs). After 1.000miles I've done so far I do think that I could've gone for something around 60-70HP but hey, at lest there is something to look forward to :) I've discovered your channel few days ago and I'm baffled by the quality of all the vlogs. I can't comprehend how you only have so few subscribers here and also on IG :) Keep up the great work and I'll be looking forward for the weekly updates! PS: There are many videos about that on youtube but maybe you could do one about your recording setup (cameras, mounts, and so on).

I bought an used 1st generation Street Twin as reentry after more than 30 years without a motorcycle. It's now 5 years ago and I've behind me more than 40,000km (length of the equator) with this machine. I've thought about upgrading to the larger T120 several times, but I've always given it up because I'm actually still happy with the bike. It looks absolutely amazing. It has enough power and torque to have fun with it for the rest of my life. I only swapped the tires and the headlight. The tires versus the Avon Spirit ST and the headlight versus a J.W. Speaker 8790 Adaptive, because I drive a lot through the woods to work at night. Imo a good investment in a longer life. ;-)

Great video! I've bought the Matt Ironstone Gray from 2020 and so far I didn't have the courage to trade it for another model. It's very good on the road and great in the big city. My suggestion is changing the standard tyres from the terrible Pirelli Phantom to any other model or brand. It's been two years since I switched it to the Pirelli Scorpion Trail and it's a whole new bike!

Took one of these from Alberta to Utah and back along with our Speed Triple 1050R, it more than held its own on that trip. I wouldn’t consider it a beginner’s bike, more of a Captain Sensible machine. Beautifully made and good ergonomics make it an everyday bike.

Greetings from your new UK subscriber. Really enjoyed this review. I’ve recently passed my bike test and have bought a Honda Rebel CMX500, partly because I too am vertically challenged so wanted something low to the ground and also because I was a little nervous about getting something too powerful for a first big bike. My next bike will be a Triumph for sure but for now I love my rebel.

I'd a Street Scrambler as my first bike, it was a perfect first choice - headlight could definitely done with being a bit brighter! I sold it for Street Triple which I've had for a year, and I'm now selling that to get a T120. Part of me regrets selling the Scrambler every day, but I'm glad I gave the Triple a go. It's an absolutely sublime riding experience, but I miss the more relaxed riding experience of the modern classics, and I think the T120's slight increase in HP, and good bump up in torque, should be the sweet spot. Health to ride, I hope you have many happy years and miles together!

When I was a kid, people traveled on bikes as small as 350 and saw them as their forever bike. 900 is a really good all around size for what you are doing. You can never have too much light if you are away from city lights. Sometimes aux lights help. Sometimes a windscreen helps with fatigue. The beauty of the bike you have is you dont mind using it for quick runs to the store or to eat. Light and simple will always serve you well. Keep the sunny side up and enjoy the ride

thanks for the review. I got myself the latest version, owning a honda cbf 500 for a few years now. I agree on the heat distribution being taller (180 cm), this bike gets hot, especially on the right side. the bike is beautiful and a keeper if you are looking for a british gentleman on two wheels that will tell you to chill out a little. but i honestly think that it may not be suited for experienced riders who love going fast in the twisties. my honda for example is much more agile, due to the higher ergonomy after a bench change, the monoshock rear suspension, 17 inch front wheel and therefore a much wider range of tyres to chose from. i went for the michelin road classics instead of the pirelli tyres. it‘s a bit better. maybe i‘ll upgrade the rear shocks and even change to metzeler tyres if available, as i do like going to the twisties (switzerland 😊). i love the bike, the looks, the exhaust sound (although missing a bit of intake sound of carbs), the suspension on bad roads is very comfortable (with the issue of not being so stiff on perfect roads), the seat is very nice, plenty of low down torque and overtaking power, no frills with the electronics…. … all in all: a very cool gentleman/gentlewoman to cruise around, but the limits of this bike are obvious very quickly if living in the twisties and riding with naked bikes from diverse japanese or european producers or the triumph 1200 speet twin. still: i love it !!! one thing i don‘t understand though: why not learn on a used japanese naked bike in the 500 to 650 range? cheap, low servicing costs, reliable, flickable….

It seems all the 2022's have it LOL (I'll be changing my brake pad or possibly my entire front brake to something different) I have a yellow tint over my headlight and changed the bulb inside to an H4 LED. It was inexpensive and plug & play.

I bought a "totaled" Street Twin at auction and rebuilt it. It was my first bike as well and I LOVED it. In 2021 I decided to buy a new Speed Twin and sell the Street. It was a sad day but I found somebody that would love and appreciate it as much as I did. It was also going to be THEIR first bike! I loved doing the mods on my bike as well. I did a de-cat on my Street Twin and it really made a significant difference. I went with the Remus 2-2 headers and stock slip-ons. It seemed to open it up a bit and really added to that sound! I also added throttle spacers. It's a super cheap and easy mod, but it helped a lot with the snatchy throttle in first gear. Lastly, If you're using the Quad Lock phone mount, I suggest getting their vibration dampener. You might already have it, I couldn't tell from the videos. I know that I used to ride without it and it definitely screwed up my phone.
@MrGutbag

I have a Street Twin and love it, but I'm still tempted by the 1200. Any pros/cons vs the 900?
@msrivette
@msrivette Год назад
@@MrGutbag I think they're both amazing bikes, to be honest. For me, I got to a point where I felt like I would be comfortable with a bit more power. I had been riding the Street Twin for years and even though I usually ride alone, occasionally I would have a passenger. I'm 6'1" and 215 pounds. By myself, the Street Twin felt fine but with a passenger, it started to feel a bit more sluggish. For my size, the Speed Twin also seems to fit a bit more. I think its the way the seat is positioned. There's really no cons since the Speed Twin has more power and better brakes while still having that amazing style. That all being said, if you love the Street Twin, dont feel a need to change it! I LOVED mine and it was hard to let it go. I even felt buyers remorse for a while. Little by little I bonded with the Speed Twin and only then was able to say goodbye to my Street haha. Have you modified your Street Twin? If you haven't done a de-cat and maybe a new exhaust, id suggest trying it. I loved the torque boost I felt from mine after and it sounded really nice!

Thank you for this nice video! :-) Yes this bike is good for beginners, but not only! I am 47 years old and i ride constantly without a break since 29 years and i am absolutely happy with this bike. I had different bikes but this is my favourit. Ok, sometimes i think maybe a bigger bike could be better, because i am 189 cm tall. But to be honest, its just for the ego. The riding position is total fine with some changes i`ve done. A bench seat from aloscafe and adjustable footpegs from Tec ( i put them a little bit lower for my long legs). And with the Marlin windscreen from Dart and a little windscreen on top (against the wind noises) from puig its perfect on faster speed on highways. But the most important modification was changing the tyres. I had the pirelli scorpion trail 2 they where great, but they are not longer produced, so i changed to Avon Spirit ST and they are perfect on any raod! You will feel much safer with this tyres and can go easily really deep in corners. I fall in love with my little Streety more and more. I cant get enough just looking at it. :-D The riding is pure happiness, you can cruise and relax but you can fire it up if you want. Its a great every day commuter but also a great long distance tourer. I think its not just the perfect beginner bike, for me i am more and more sure, its the perfect forever bike. :-)

Its a great all-round bike and the fuel economy is outstanding (80 uk mpg ) I 'upgraded' to the speed twin 1200 a year ago but still think about my street twin. The best change I made to the street twin? tyres, the stock pirellis are poor, they give a vague front feel while cornering, wet grip is not great and they track road ruts like a magnet. Avon spirit ST transformed the bike.

A motorcycle being categorized as a beginner bike also has the geography factor in it, I think. In countries like where I'm from, where small capacity bikes are king, any bike from 500cc and up are considered big bikes already. Anyway, I can't wait to flip my Yamaha XSR 900 for something like the Street Twin. I'm very partial to retro and classic-looking bikes, and couple that with my defensive and conservative riding style, there would be no question about how those types of bike exactly fit me. Hopefully I can get a quality 2nd-hand like any of the 900s from Triumph, or one of the Evolution engine sportster Harleys, maybe a Moto Guzzi v9 Bobber Sport.

I just finished my MSF course a couple weeks back, and have been drooling over these. Im considering pulling the trigger, but am on the fence about the displacement. I want something I can grow into, and feel like the Speed 400 is a bit small for me. I am 6ft, 215lbs. Should I go with the 900 or the 1200? Thanks again, and great video!

Nice, congrats! It's all within your comfort level. I really think either could be a great start. The 900 would be perfect and would last you for a long time.

I like the Street Twin. I loved the Street Cup, but for some reason they only made it for the 2017 and 2018 model years then just stopped. Not sure why. I almost purchased the Street Twin, but didn't. I wish I did though.

If you are able to find a 2016 street twin seat you will have 1 inch less of seat height and might feel more comfortable to reach the ground. I do love mine (2016 model) I also installed the street scrambler handlebars and its even more comfortable with a more upright position. The weight might be intimidating but the center of gravity on this bike is very very low. Regarding the lights, Why you don’t use some LED lights mounted on the crash bar instead? Way cheaper and you will have all the visibility that you need.

Acquiring the complex skill of competently driving a motorcyle on the streets takes time. "Ride your ride" should always be your guide. If you find yourself in a group ride that out paces your comfort zone . . . . ride your ride. Do not be pulled or pushed into riding beyond your comfort zone. No one really knows their capacity when buying their first bike (assuming no riding experience), because of their lack of knowledge and experience. From the videos here, Moto Des is a responsible person who cautiously approaches this learning to avoid overly risky behavior. I have to agree with her assessment that the Street Twin 900 will suit her riding desires for a couple of years, perhaps more. Who knows? If not, all the better. Adventures in motorcycle shopping . . . . . . . .! Maybe she might rent a Triumph Trident 660 and be seduced to the triple side . . . . . ? I like MrGutbag, came back to riding after many decades. The Bonneville T120 seduced me back in 2017 (at the age of 65). 😊 Great video. More please. ❤

It looks like a classic British twin, which is cool, has a comfortable, neutral riding position, and handles easily. And yes, it sounds great, too. 'Excellent presentation!

It is best bike for the price, an all round bike , go anywhere, enough power, braking and handling, also the seat height is fantastic giving you the peace of mind if you land up on really bad roads or are stuck on a up hill slow in a traffic jam, weight is also lower down so it feels light weight ( COG is low ) and pillion will also be comfortable with the flat seat and its height so can easily get on and off the bike. low maintenance bike and does not stand out of the crowd so less chance of being stolen. If you have the money and love riding and someone who has been riding or is getting old and wants to ride a bike, this is the bike to get. If I had the money $12000 here in Bharat for this bike I would definitely get it ...:(

its definetly NOT a beginner bike. Can someone handle it if they're a beginner... absolutely... but it has the potential of putting beginners in really bad situations. Des is level headed and cautious, not all beginners will be this smart about it... those are the ones that will get hurt on a 900cc bike. A good beginner bike allows ANYONE to learn how to ride without putting too much power in their hands. Somewhere in the last 6 or 7 years the internet culture has slowly re-defined what a beginner bike is and its absolutely going to result in people getting hurt. I dont think any certified instructor would want someone to start on a Street Twin.
@moto_des
@moto_des Год назад
I agree, it all depends on the rider and how they approach learning how to ride. This bike is definitely not for every beginner. Thanks for watching :)
@nerychristian

My first motorcycle was a Honda 919. I didn't have any problems riding it. It all depends on how mature and responsible you are as a rider. I grew up with a dad who rode cruiser motorcycles. And he always taught me to ride carefully and to be careful of other drivers. I am that way too when I drive a car. I guess it depends on your personality type.

It's a mistake to categorize some bikes as being for beginners. The engine/weight combination is little to do with one's level of experience. I've known many beginners who bought Harley hogs for their first bikes. I've had more than 70 years of motorcycle experience yet I would prefer a smaller bike than this one for my current riding habits. Indeed at 85 years old now I am thinking about the Triumph Scrambler. Good thing you don't call that one a beginner bike or I'd not be able to buy it. (sarcasm)

It’s definitely not a beginner’s bike. Maybe it’s not that big and heavy for experienced biker, but it’s got plenty of power and speed. I’ve got one myself for 4-th season now. And it’s my 4-th bike. I would chose something less powerful, let’s say from Royal Enfield if I were a beginner and was in the market for classic looks.
