When you said about listening out for excessive noise or hum and then flicked the standby a switch and ambulance came blaring past my house, with the sirens on. I was like damn 😂. Sweet amp btw dude!
@@AudiomoMusic Jim Campilongo said something similar of his amp and guitar choices: "Nobody ever said, Golly but I wish that Telecaster was BRIGHTER." 😹
Good to see your old amp back in action and the smile it brought to your face. It made both guitars sound great. The amp you had when I discovered your channel! 🙂🙂🎸🎸
It's the amp I actually learned to play guitar on! My friends and family probably suffered greatly as I mashed a metal zone through it trying to play punk rock
Great surf pairing, right there. And your smile is one of reuniting with an old friend! I'm in the same camp of having worked on guitars, but kinda shying away from amps. Heard a bunch of warnings about needing to make ABSOLUTELY SURE the big honkin' capacitors and transformers are discharged, lest you get a nasty surprise! Not a big problem for me, given I have exactly one amp and use software otherwise, but I've seen broken fixer-upper amps on Craigslist for dirt cheap that might make a satisfying learning project.
Awesome Jim! Seeing that smile on you face when the reverb worked was priceless!!! These are great amps if you can find one still. I saw one at my local used music stone. I just need to get my first tube amp that I bought fixed. a Mesa/Boogie Blue Angel 4x10
@@AudiomoMusic well, one of my old girlfriends somehow managed to turn the power on while putting the dust cover on it, and it was 2 weeks before I found out that it was on, and now it just blows fuses, tubes in or out, along with a nice burning electric smell. But it really isn't worth much not working, and I got a good deal on it, so it should be worth getting fixed by a professional.
I wish I had bought a smaller 1x12 50 watt Music Man amp when I had the chance many years ago. It was a nice amp. That 2x12 sounds great. Nice woody and bell like tones. Very warm. Good stuff Jim.
Yup, came here to say DEOXIT EVERYTHING 😹 (And check cable seating, but you're adept at the whole troubleshooting thing so you'll have done it already)
@@AudiomoMusic I was able to successfully clean the volume pot on my 65 Deluxe RI without extracting the chassis by tilting the amp so the volume knob was straight up and down to the ceiling. I removed the knob and made a funnel from electrical tape around the threads below the shaft of the pot, then sprayed in the De-Oxit and twisted the shaft back and forth. The funnel and gravity made the De-Oxit find it's way into the pot and not make a mess on the front control panel and the pot cleaned up nicely.
Properly awesome that you’ve done that yourself, it works and it sounds glorious (was so happy when you grabbed the LP as that was immediately on my mind as to how that combination would sound !)
I need to go back in with some electrical contact cleaner still, going to do all of the pots, tube sockets, and see if that doesn't fix some of the excess popping before i bring it in but man it's really fun working on your own stuff even when it's intimidating. The LP will sound GREAT with it when I actually dial it it
@@AudiomoMusic yeah man that’s the thing hopefully that works and so rewarding you did it yourself! And yeah I need to hear the LP and 335 on that beaut of an amp dialled in just right - that’s the stuff lol
@audiomo Jim, is there any real concern getting a Fender mij p bass made from basswood? The Internet is all over the place with opinions. The bass feels and sounds really nice. However, I am hearing it will easily ding and the screws can easily strip? Can you please provide some objective advice?
the internet is stupid. don't listen to the internet. there are basswood body basses still going strong that are older than a lot of the people telling you to worry about it.
Cannabis Rex, I had one in a Hot Rod Deluxe. It was a. It too bassy for my tastes in there. I had to dial the amp bass all the way down. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my personal tastes. Could've been a lot of other factors in there as well. Funny side note, when I was selling that speaker, Facebook wasn't happy with me. They kept flagging my listing because they thought I was selling drugs when I typed out "Cannabis" in the description. I appealed the decision but with stupid computers and no human element verifying anything, they kept denying it saying drug sales were prohibited through Facebook. 😂
Pff as if facebook cares about anything other than selling your personal information without your consent to the highest bidder hahahahahaha Funny how the computers do run it all though isnt it?
Every few months I post a picture of the kiddo for the older relatives in the family, i don't even bother with the marketplace although it'd probably be wise to.
@@AudiomoMusic Marketplace gets annoying, lots of flakes. But, lots of great deals too. A couple great deals turned into real friendships. Not there for that but you never know when you'll meet someone truly remarkable and you really click. Through Marketplace I turned a junk ply-body Korean Squier that was a deal sweetener with a horrible brushed on paint job into a KC Jaguar, that I sold and used the cash to buy an Am Pro II Jazzmaster. All zero cash out of pocket. Trading and selling. It's fun.
