I am married to a Torajan women from Australia. I went to a Torajan funeral back in 2018. It is a very interesting experience, so different from our culture.
I like the way you comforting Cedar by saying, “So it’s not brutal, it’s just a part of life or death...” Cedar was so brave Sir, staring at the death buffalo while you’re doing the talks. This kind of funeral ceremony is so costly (just look at many buffalos and pigs there). However, some people are still doing it, not only in Toraja Land but also in some lands in Indonesia. It just shows how loyal they are. Families come first and money is just a number.

I saw many youtube videos from western vloger, where many times they called us "barbaric" or "crazy people" just because they see us kill animals in public...
Culture is not always a good thing. Bad culture also exist. It's pretty normal for the westerner to call this barbaric and brutal. They are not used to this. And me I'm more okay with culture that is less bloody. I'd just get away from that place and eat somewhere else. I'd like to eat my food where there is peace and quite. Instead of pig screaming in agony. Maybe that is just me. As half indonesian and half american who was born in indonesia, live in jakarta and now live in the netherland from 13 years old to 29 years old now and never went back. I'm not attach to any culture. I don't think anybody should be stuck following a culture or other people, but then again it's their choice.
Your culture is the most stupid one. Person with good deeds goes to heaven and the bad one goes to hell. Buffaloes are not the carriers of their souls. Stop killing innocent animals. If it was really a sacrifice, just let the corpses of buffaloes lie there. Why are you all eating them? Its just a reason to feed
Culture is good, religion is kind but why humans always think they are most important and superior to helpless animals😭it's sad heartbresking how culture has lost sympathy for animals just for their own beliefs culture and tradition. If humans are not hurting animals, the world is very lovely to live. Humans need animals, wildlife and nature for biodiversity, but animals, wildlife and nature don't need humans. How we wish to have a perfect world with full of love, compassion, respect, no brutallity, no hurting or harming, no greed & selfishness, no war no bloody sacrifices😭it's so painful heartbreaking 😭

This toraja tradition funeral ceremony is very rare experience. Good for education to people, how they respect to the death, how they working together hand in hand to support the ceremony, altought the animal sacrifice is very sensitive view for some people but there is a important meaning for the ceremony. I think it's ok. if you willing to share more film that you take and you may blur the sensitive view. I think is fine. Because your goal is for education and share the experience of toraja culture as an effort to preserve culture. What you do with family is precious moment dan experience. I'm Indonesian, I'm muslim, and I'm not vegetarian ... but I really can't handle any rituals or actions that involve animal killing - including "qurban" in muslim ritual ... as well as those in a slaughter house I better just go to the market, buy the meet, cook and eat it - without thinking how they was killed before ... hehehe 😁 great great video btw, so glad to see foreigners have so much interest in Indonesian heritage. I went there in 2015 on a cultural exchange program, i am myself from North Sumatra another part of Indonesia, eventhough coming from the same country Torajan culture is very unique for me, i had a great experience there. The people were very nice and kind. Pak Aru was also our guide and he also showed and explained us about the Torajan funeral ceremony, i'm very glad to see he is doing well.

Toraja, Dayak, Bataknese , Nias & Bali Aga are the predecessor tribe in Archipelago. If you go to North Sumatera you can meet two tribes, Bataknese and Nias. I guarantee, they are worth to see.

If your family have more time, y'all can go and explore to North Sumatera especially to Toba Lake. Tobanese have so many unique, interesting cultural thing. And i think Toraja seems kinda have a quite similar to Tobanese culture :))

Pa’piong is the name of the food. Pork mixed with a vegetables called “bulu nangko” in torajanese. That’s why the colour become darker. 😊😊. Watching your videos is amazing.. its been a while and i really miss all the feelings from my home town.. thanks for the video’s!!!

I wonder, why you choose to travel to and made contents about the eastern parts of Indonesia instead to explore the western parts of Indonesia. But of course I think it's a good thing, because eastern parts of Indonesia are rich in traditional culture, different from most parts of western Indonesia, with its rural areas/small towns and friendly people.
