Hello everyone, I purchased one of these units and in my opinion- it is not worth the money. Here is why: the unit can’t keep the right time of day after the daylight savings time change. It requires a frequent correction every four or five days. The other reason I do not believe it is worth the money is because the units heating and cooling were working in reverse, so I would have to turn the temp settings down for the heat to work and turn up the temp for the cooling to work. In fairness they did provide a software patch for me to download and correct. My point is for the money you should not have to install a patch fix. O and one last thing that drives me nuts about this unit is the fact that every week there is a command setting the pops up out of nowhere and requires you to close down all the apps and then you have to relaunch the gps radio etc. overall not worth the money!!!
I purchased the same head unit for my. 2011 Tacoma. Everything was plug and play no issues with installation but the only issue I have is a static noise when I turn on the headlights. It's not super loud but annoying it goes away if I shut the headlights off. Do you have the same issue? Everything on my truck is stock besides the head unit now.
Great install video! Just curious I noticed as you scrolled through the settings it showed all 4 wheels and said No TPMS Device. Did it eventually register the tpms sensors or is that function not compatible with Tacoma? I wanna get one for sure
I just ordered one for my tacoma. Question. I do not have a stock back up camera but I plan on installing one. Does it work woth any aftermarket or do I have to order one from aucar
The factory radio looks a little different but the install is the same. Remove the AC controls and then remove the 4 bolts that hold the radio in. Unplug everything and install the new radio.
I used www.amazon.com/dp/B07H852D49/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?pd_rd_i=B07H852D49&pd_rd_w=LdiwZ&pf_rd_p=0c758152-61cd-452f-97a6-17f070f654b8&pd_rd_wg=w4c5a&pf_rd_r=501E6M26J9FYBAR7JBCZ&pd_rd_r=80f91310-866a-4fbd-8fde-b8e963fc031e&s=electronics&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyWjRVMTNGNFIzWVRPJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjMyNjIyM0dSTFZQVE5BWkI4WSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjc5Njk5MkkzOVdWMjVQUzIySiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 I mounted it center right above the lower grill.
The black AC Control, does it have a harness connector or does it plug in the head unit. I have everything working but no spot to connect the black ac connector. I’m also missing some cables, OBD2, usb, backup camera.
Don't know if you can help me been searching all around for the wire harnesses that connect to the head unit to add a backup camera. installing an aftermarket backup camera and noticed the RCA cable can't plug in. I've had the unit for a year works great pretty sure what I didn't use was tossed out. Thank you anything helps at this point.
@@jonm8975 thanks Jon, I just found it by watching your vid again. I bought my unit second hand and it looks like it did come with the OBD2 cable note the USB. Any idea where I can get those? I did reach out to AuCar but nothing yet.
Does this use the built-in OEM microphone for Bluetooth phone calls? I have purchased a similar radio, different company, and it used a mic built into the radio head unit and it was terrible for phone calls.
They are 2 different antennas. The connectors look the same. If your original radio has navigation you should have a gps antenna. You could try hooking it up to the satellite antenna if that’s all you have, I’m not sure if it will work though. I have never seen a Tacoma with a shark fin and no gps so you should have one.
Okay so I installed this and I have a couple problems, 1 - when I start it my screen looks like it’s broken and then goes to normal after a minute. 2 - mine is not showing a Tacoma where the rpm’s and speed are it’s just a blank black screen on half the unit. 3 - sometimes when I put it into drive the gear stays in reverse on the screen and speedometer but I’m in drive and it’s turning on my engine and trac off light. Do you think I have a defective unit or do you think I plugged something in wrong? I know it’s probably kinda hard for you to say since you can’t see it, but any advice is helpful! I don’t know who else to ask.
I am not sure when you recieved yours but they just released a new firmware that is suposed to correct the colored artifacts when starting. It also has some other bug fixes. I would try this first to see if it corrects your issues. It can be found here www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tesla-style-head-unit.737247/page-22 on post #439. Its kind of a long read now, but there are also some good settings that people are using in the thread. Aucars contact info is on the first page.
quick question - options for the AuCar units for JBL or non-JBL.. why would that matter, if you are provided RCA outputs for aftermarket amplifiers? i have the JBL system in my '15, so curious which to purchase, since this new head unit will allow me to install a complete/new sound system, which is my plan.
If you want to keep the jbl system in place and just change the head unit then buy the jbl one. The wiring is different between the 2. You will lose the fader if you keep the jbl system. If you are replacing everything the buy the regular unit. Some people have a jbl system and just want the plug and play head unit.
@@jonm8975 makes sense. i'll opt for the NON jbl unit. another question: is there a in-unit option to quickly change the gain of the sub (amp)? i didnt see a gain up/down option for it. i saw the "gains" and "mute" for the other 4 channels i guess a direct to amp "bass knob" would suffice but that's another cable i dont wanna run
Hi good morning I have a cuestion I purchased this radio unit for my 2015 tacoma so my cuestion is about the 2 antenna connection that my truck has so I only plug one in and I left the other one unplug is there anyway to plug the 2 antenna connector on this type of unit thanks
The aucar web can not make any order, Jon how can we buy the model for 4 runner with the runner50. I saw the cached price for 4 runner tesla style was 595, it is really nice.
This is a very informative video. The only things that I would like 2 know is, can the NETFLIX show in widescrren, & since my NETFLIX is thru TMOBILE, can I have a way of connecting it thru them?
You need to install an older version. You can follow these instructions. phoenixautomotivellc.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/36000104698-install-netflix-hulu
It's not bad, about the same as the factory. I had a Gemes Lab RFCC TTG1 controller that used the steering wheel controls before and that thing was super-fast switching between the front and rear. It was convenient not having to touch the screen also. It was made for the stock radio but with a little wiring, I should be able to hook it up to this one. If you want more info check out www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tesla-style-head-unit.737247/
@@jonm8975 awesome thanks for the feedback man really appreciate it. I have a 2005 taco so I'm really looking into upgrade and have a reverse cam to save my rear bumper lol
Yes it is, I use it with CarPlay everyday. They have a new model out also. I just posted some videos of it on my channel. aucarauto.com/product/pre-order-aucar-tesla-android-11-12-1-car-radio-gps-navigation-for-toyota-tacoma-2005-2015-car-multimedia-stereo-player-car-video/
I have a 9" screen installed now. I like having the screen, not a fan of the actual unit. One issue is the brightness control, or lack of. Can you control the brightness on this, and how much? How is driving with it at night?
I wasn't able to get the factory USB port to work although I connected one end of the USB adapter to one of the two usb cables that come from the head unit and the other end to the USB/Aux factory plug.
Thank you for posting this walkthrough video. You mentioned that you purchased an adaptor for the shark fin radio. You could post a link to refer me to so I can purchase? I just placed an order for my 2013 Tacoma. Thanks in advance.
It should as long as you leave it on defrost when you turn off the car. Mine will remember what settings it was on when I start the truck. The remote start turns on the ignition so it should be the same as starting it with the key.
This should not interfere with the bully dog tune. You may need a obdii splitter if you need the obdii port. But tuning wise you’ll be fine. I run a hptunners custom map with no issues.
Man I’m trying to follow along for install, but idk why you’re in such a rush. Also, idk why you skip to the part where everything’s plugged in, I would’ve liked to have watched that part.. geesh 🥴
It should work fine. You might need a splitter to use both at the same time. If you don’t use the radio obd you are only losing the rpm and speed on the console.
I know alot of people are runing this without an amp, so it should work ok. For the best sound I would run a small power pack amp. In reality you probably only get 20w-30w of power per channel.
@@waheedjag7738 its a small amp like this www.crutchfield.com/S-Yjqu5Z9pst2/p_500KTP445U/Alpine-KTP-445U-Power-Pack.html?XVINQ=DST&XVVER=89M&awcr=386459581652&awdv=c&awkw=&awmt=&awnw=g&awug=9032743&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmuiTBhDoARIsAPiv6L8vKWY0jQx9pfEiNL7GjQybFPB3Jqk1lVx0mLidcFijS6BS76HPgtYaAg9MEALw_wcB
You will need to buy an extra adapter to move the reverse camera from the mirror to the radio. camerasource.com/accessories/2013-tacoma-mirror-to-radio-camera-conversion.html
I'm having a hell of a time trying to get it to connect to android auto and the customer service is a joke. I e deleted and reinstalled zlink, did the software update as well as did the format. I bought the head unit for 2 reasons 1 for the screen size and 2 for the Android auto. Plz help if you can im getting desperate
on my 2013 tacoma will i need another adapter for the back up camera since the current viewer is on the rear view mirror or is there any splicing needed to install? If so is there a specific video that covers it?
I don’t have a video but this harness is used to display the camera on the mirror on the new screen. camerasource.com/accessories/2013-tacoma-mirror-to-radio-camera-conversion.html
@@jonm8975 in the q&a section it says it will not work on aftermarket head unit and it will disable the temperature and other function on the mirror i like having the auto dimming
@@lawrenceratliff9962 I know this will work with the Tesla screen. I am not sure it you will lose the auto dimming and temp. There is a guy with it on the Tacoma forum. You can ask him if he lost any other features. www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tesla-style-head-unit.737247/
You can. The Tacoma xrunner image you see in the video is actually a picture I made myself. You can change that and the startup/boot image to anything you want.
sorry for the questions, but do you know size HDD this device can read from? and can it handle the PLEX app? would love to be able to utilize my plex server on this
@@jonm8975 Thanks man. They did confirm Plex but gave a strange answer about HDD/Thumb drive size, so I reached back out and they are having an engineer reach out to me. They said a 500gb HDD would work, but only a 32gb thumb drive. I find that hard to believe since they present themselves the same. My guess is it's a different between NTFS and FAT32 but it's clear as mud right now :) Hopefully I have an answer today.
This is only for the second gen. I seen Phoenix automotive is coming out with one for the third gen. It’s on there site and looks good. I am just not sure about the company. They don’t have the best reviews.
btw this is a smaller/cheaper one but it's only for 2005-2013 Tacoma's: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-soOtLI1rUsg.html - it doesn't replace the A/C controls or the hazard button/clock above that. Still on the fence about getting one of these products though.
Are you using bluetooth? it should be fairly straight forward if not using CarPlay. If carplay use zlink. If not just connect like any other device. On you phone you will need to allow it to sync contacts.
i would like to see what the gps looks like ?? wow.. i have a 2013 ... does this thing need a cell pnone to make the gps work?? its now a few months later ] is it worth i8t ??? t5hank you ..
@@spotless624 The gps does not need a cell phone to work. The u it has its own gos antenna. You can use any navigation app that lets you download the maps this way you can have navigation with no cell service. The steering wheel controls also work. I definitely think it’s worth it. I have had no issues since install.
I’m installing mine this weekend and curious there is no info on wiring the reverse Orange wire for the backup camera; also no info on parking brake wiring. Any tips? My old pink wire from my factory harness is just hanging out.
@jdtoothnail sorry man... idk know !!!!.... some car owners Manuel had information on the radio wiring. Take a peak at another brands wire harness see what colors they used... I decided to stick with my 2013 GPS. It works fine. My next car will have a screen like that.. good luck!
Whenever I turn on my car, I never see the boot image. It's just blank and then goes to the main screen. Any idea on how to show it every time? Also it won't let me download Netflix!!! Any clue on how to do this? ANYONE?
It will only show the logo when it does a full boot. Normally when you turn off the truck the radio will just sleep and not power off all the way. This is so it can start up faster when you get back in the car. If you do not start the truck for a long period the radio completely shuts off. This is when you will see the logo as it has to full boot from off.
If you had the backup camera on the radio then OBD port is only used to show your rpm and speed info on the console. If you dont need those then yes. If you had your camera on the review mirror then the OBD port is also used to let the radio know when you go into reverse. You will also need to wire your mirror camera to the radio.(this is a seperate harness) So if you have a mirror camera and wire it to the radio and dont hook it up you will lose the automatic showing of your reverse camera. You can always run a reverse wire if your OBD does not work for reverse. There is a seperate input for reverse camera(switching and video input) if you did not have either. Either way you can hook it up but you will lose some features depending on the original funcitons of the truck. Hope that makes sense.
@@jonm8975 I've heard the original backup camera resolution is really bad can you upgrade the camera and have it still work with this unit (assuming you did install the ODB 2)?
@@Icesack Its not terible but its not really good. The radio does support an aftermarket camera. It has an RCA input and reverse input on the main harness. It also has an input for front and side camera. You will not need the obd for switching if you use an aftermarket camera. You will still need it for RPM and Speed.
@@threeriversoverlanding I would definetly message Eric on whats app his number is +86 151 1600 9580 he is aucar tech support. He should be able to help you out.
It does not have normal satellite radio. It can support Sirius XM through the android app but you will need to use your phone hot spot to connect to the internet.
👍, 2 more things if you don't mind, so I need and extra harness for my mirror backup camera to work on the radio screen? And does your phone automatically connects to the radio? Sorry for asking all of these questions.
