What's up man! Did you have to purchase the CarPlay dongle that they sell? And does that dongle just sit out in the open? Or is it hidden behind the unit? Thanks for this video btw...
I purchased the dongle but I honestly don’t know what it’s for. I plug my phone directly into the unit and CarPlay works fine…. That said, I never use CarPlay. RU-vid is playing 90% of the time and you can’t use RU-vid on CarPlay. Biggest issues for me so far is having little to no GPS signal(Possibly a loose connection), backup camera only works after I’ve been driving for at least 20 minutes(also possibly a loose connection), the unit won’t remember my phones trust certificate so I need to answer the “trust this device “ and enter my iPhone pass code every time I plug it in(without a SIM card you need to plug your phone in for internet service or physically choose your phones hotspot every time you start your car to use RU-vid, internet, etc)…and the unit isn’t compatible with Verizon SIM cards…. Even with all of these issues… it’s amazing. With kicker ds speakers in the doors the system sounds amazing. The stock unit could barely power the kickers. This unit will blow them if you’re not careful. It’s powerful.
Really interested in the video because I am on the fence about buying one of these. Appreciate the video but I am baffled as to why you would show parts of the video inside the image of the radio??? Personally, I wanted to see the full screen details of what you recorded. At this point it probably doesn't matter much since the video is a year old. Just hoping you don't show your other videos in this way. Super distracting/annoying. The overall 4runner content is great though. Best of luck.
I just installed mine yesterday..still learning how to use it. I have 2 issues so far. My backup camera doesn’t work.. maybe it’s a setting? And it won’t connect to my hotspot. It recognizes my phone but once I tap to connect it I get a message saying Wi-Fi isn’t within range. Also, when I connect via Bluetooth my phone shows it’s connected to 2 different Bluetooth devices. It’s bizarre because I’ve never seen my phone connect to 2 different devices before. If you have any insight into these problems… please let me know. Also, I installed it by using the video Phoenix has on their website. I was left with 2 open spots where something should plug in (in the top row on the upper part is the unit) There is a small plug that’s connected to the same harness that the 2 USB plugs are connected to… it fit in 1 of the 2 empty spots so I plugged it in. They never talked about it in the video. Did you do the same or did you leave it unplugged?
Sorry if you already included this in the vid but I didn't see it. Does the factory backup cam work without mods? are there any empty inputs to perhaps add a front cam? if so that would be sick!
I installed mine and my backup cam only works after I’ve driven around for a while. I think I have loose connections because I was struggling to get everything plugged in.. I needed someone to hold a flashlight so I could see but didn’t have anyone to help me. There are several extra RCAs for more cameras. 5 total I believe. And the unit is 360 capable.
