Audacity Editing - Audacity How to Edit "How To Use Audacity" - Audacity Tutorial 2020 - Pro Tips
In this Audacity tutorial, I reveal some great tips and tricks on how to speed up the editing process in Audacity. I talk about HotKeys, where to find them, and how to use them. I also teach you how to change and customize the HotKeys.
HotKey Location-
-Go to Edit, click preferences, click keyboard. You'll then have a list of all the hotkeys programmed into Audacity.
-You can search for a specific hotkey in the search bar (top Right)
Changing a Hotkey-
-Click the hotkey you'd like to change.
-Then click in the bar with the pre-programmed hotkey toward the bottom. ---Type in the desired key or key combination.
-Click Set
-Click OK
Using Hotkeys will save you so much time and mouse movement.
-You can change the hotkeys to your preference.
-For Mac users usually, switching ctrl with command will do it. If not,
we now know where to find them. Edit, Preferences, keyboard.

After all that and you suggest backing up with "edit-undo". Command-Z (Apple) is the hot key I use as much as any others to save time!

Thanks for this! A lot of the keyboard commands are the same in Microsoft word (I'm an author working on my audiobook). You can "undo" an edit in word using "command z" (mac) and in Audacity it's "shift + command + z" -- you can do a bunch of them in a row.

_May be of interest to people uploading to youtube...Audacity has a new effect setting "Loudness Normalization"...(L.U.F.S)...The L.U.F.S. normalization setting for RU-vid is -14 L.U.F.S. If you upload your video/audio at this setting...and right click on the video in YT i.e. "Stats for nerds"...if you go to the third setting down you can verify that the audio volume is correct when it's at zero.. (The Loudness Normalization should be the last effect you should use before uploading.) Latest _*_Audacity 2.4.1_*

I love your tips thanks so much for taking the time for posting these videos .... please is there any way to record computer sounds like teamspeak or gaming sounds? at the moment all the recordings are captured with my mic is there any settings I can do. tx so much again for what you do/
@VoiceOverMaster

Thanks so much! yes, On Windows, you can choose the Windows WASAPI Audio Host and then the (loopback) input in the Recording Device box. Choose the loopback input for the computer playback device you will be listening to (for example, "Speakers (loopback)". The loopback input records computer playback even if your sound device lacks its own stereo mix or similar input. You may need to stretch out the Device toolbar to see the "loopback" - use the drag handle Resizer at the right end of the toolbar. WASAPI loopback has a big advantage over stereo mix or similar inputs provided by the audio interface. The capture is entirely digital (rather than converting to analog for playback, then back to digital when Audacity receives it). Hope this helps!

Josh, Thanks so much for your Audacity tutorials. Very informative and the step by step process makes it easy to implement. I have two questions: Do you provide work product to clients in mono or stereo? and, do you provide clients with .wav files in 16 bit, 24 but or 32 bit? Jim
@VoiceOverMaster
@VoiceOverMaster 4 года назад
Thanks Jim! I deliver whatever the client wants. I usually ask if they have a file preference. I deliver in stereo unless they ask me otherwise. Some clients want mp3. Some clients want mono.

Josh, thank you sooo much. Yours is the first Audacity video that I’ve learnt something from. Can I ask about saving projects? It won’t let me! Tells me I can’t because it’s not an Audacity file 🧐

Hello, when I started recording another track for my vocals, the First track which is the Instrumental is still being recorded together with my vocals on the second track. How will I record the second track without also recording the instrumental? Just my pure vocals. I'm getting a frustrated, please help.
@VoiceOverMaster
@VoiceOverMaster 4 года назад
Make sure you’re adding a new track for each round of vocals. You have to listen to the music in headphones so the mic doesn’t record the instrumental. You can also mute the instrumental track. Good luck!

@juStb4u
@juStb4u 4 года назад
Hey Josh, just rewatching this one and curious about the Silence feature. I've been using Noise Reduction as the first step in the editing chain to remove humming and such in the raw audio...but have found that there is still some noise (wondering if that's the mic/sound space not sufficiently treated?) - so, is it a matter of noise reduction settings or would 'Silence' work better in this case? I would think noise reduction is preferred since it works across the whole file whereas silence would only isolate a space between. Would love your thoughts! :)
@VoiceOverMaster
@VoiceOverMaster 4 года назад
Hey B! It’s situational and depending on length of audio, recording space, and sound output. I like silence for short form and noise gate for long form. Try noise gate with the level reduction at -40 and see how that works for 😊
