I have to correct myself. This is by far the best movie, that I have seen so far on this engine assembly. Outstanding! You know being a German, I have to reach out to a Canadian, to get this insight. Great work! Stored it an hope it will be available for some time. Roland from good old Germany

I love the 2.7T AGB engine. Undertook a bottom end rebuild on mine at 212k miles and she is still super smooth and strong at 291k. Looking to get the old girl to 476k miles, too the moon and back, before I retire from driving. Secret to longevity with these engines (as with all engines) is keep on top of servicing and maintenance and don't overboots or over stress with power tuning. Just enjoy the car / engine for what it is.
@PBGarage
@PBGarage 2 года назад
agreed! maintenance goes along way. Unfortunately these cars/drive trains fall into the hands of those who are not as diligent as most about maintenance, combined with abusive driving habits makes them fall apart real quick. But there are a few of us out there still, who will take these units to 500k+ kms easy!

amazing best video yet of internet rebuilding of 2.7t. my cam guide broke and as I was doing the cam seals the chain jumped so I had to open the valve cover and found big chunk of plastic then had to open leaking oil pan and find the rest and clean out the pickup screen then only 1 person could tell me if the oil pan gasket OEM was metal of silicone and it was a vw place guy told me no gasket on mine and so happy day. now this video and the cam chain install and the stupid 16 link thing is my bibal

like your video so much! The same as enjoy watching a movie. like your clean shop, workmanship, carefully assemble every single components down to every single nut and bolt. I have a 1991 A4 1.8, 5 speed, Quatro. 130K, only driven in the Summer weekend. I would like you to help take the engine apart, clean and assembly them back together like what you do your 2.7L. A4 I will like to work together and pay for your time and labor. If sounds good to you, please let me know. Looking forward to hear from you. BTW, I live in Toronto.

FYI Audi manual specifically says that there should be no silicone on the lower oil pan, they have a special cardboard seal for it.
@PBGarage

Do you have a reference for the seal? It would be good to know! In any case, I'm at about 3500KM and no issues with the silicone seal.

@@PBGarage I can send you screenshots of the manual but here is the copy straight from it : 9 - Gasket for lower section of pan Sealing surfaces should be clean and dry Installing Install in the opposite order to removing. When installing, note the following points: Note: Do not use any adhesive or sealant. - Clean sealing surfaces; ensure that they are free of oil and grease. - Install new gasket on lower section of oil pan and install on upper section of oil pan with two diagonally opposite bolts. - Tighten all securing bolts hand-tight. - Tighten bolts to 10 Nm with torque wrench, working from center outward. - install new seal on oil drain plug and tighten to 30 Nm. Hello would you happen to know where can I find and upper oil pan for my 2.7t ? I see that the one for the 2.8 looks very similar but I’m not sure if it fits
@PBGarage
@PBGarage 6 месяцев назад
Hey! The upper pan on the 2.7 has ports for the turbo drains, which the 2.8 doesn’t. Try eBay or a local junk yard. The 2.7 came in a few different cars (A6, Allroad, S4…)

Thank you for the informative video! I have one question. You will realize I am a DIY non mechanic: can you tell me if the transmission and upper oil pan can be left in the car while the block is unbolted and removed from the engine bay? (2001 audi a6 2.8 c5)
@PBGarage
@PBGarage 2 года назад
Hi Peter, no, this is not possible. You need to separate the engine / transmission by pulling them apart to free the transmission input shaft from the clutch assembly, and with the oil pan still attached to the transmission this is not possible.
@peterhilbert6428
@peterhilbert6428 2 года назад

Is there a different oil pump that can be used on the B5 S4 or C5 Allroad?
@PBGarage

If I’m not mistaken the RS4 pump is different (more pressure?). I haven’t looked into it to be honest, from what I gather the stock pump is okay for basic K04 builds. What are you building?

Did you prime your oil pump at all? If so, what’d you do?
@PBGarage
@PBGarage 6 месяцев назад
I did! After it was all back together and installed in the car, I filled with break in oil (Amsoil is what I used), and cranked the engine (no plugs, fuel pump fuse pulled) for about 30 seconds. Top up oil and do it again for another 30 seconds or so. After the first engine start, keep a very close eye on oil level, top up as required.

Actually I did not. All of my old stuff was in good condition and cleaned up really well. I degreased and scrubbed each fastener before reuse and inspected for any damage / corrosion. I also have a big bin of spare Audi hardware so I swapped out questionable ones.

@@camazagames4510 I think what you are saying is, you want to remove the oil pump sprocket? You will need a press to remove and install the gear. Why are you using the 2.8 crank? More stroke? Most people go for the 3.0.

Depends. If you’re searching for parts what I find helpful is to grab the part number from 7zap (ETKA) and then just plug the part number into the search (Rockauto or FCP, ECS etc). Then you can see all the models that use that part.
