For all those that have done this or are thinking about doing it. DO NOT. The A2 is not designed to have constant spring pressure on the closed strut. I have seen cars where at best the tailgate is distorted and pushes the glass up. Have seen strut mounts ripped off and even hinges broken by these springs .. and yes it was red springs correct size. So if you have fitted this then remove them as soon as possible or you will damage the car.
Hi to the video maker. What can you say about the damage that is causing the mod you are so happy about? Maybe you can make another video to address this issue 🤔.
Hey garage of dad, great video. Am keen to do this but the link to the parts required has vanished from your vid description. Could you pls drop me a message with the exact struts and springs required to do this mod please ? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 many thanks and love the channel
I did same mod today. It works nice, though I could not get hold of exact same parts in croatia. I was wondering, you’ve been using it for some time now and did you notice any negative side effects? I am thinking the lock is under tension all the time…
A year later everything is still OK although on cold days it struggles to push the door up now.

Thanks. That puts my mind at ease; the fact car/door/hinges/lock can handle spring tension over time. And thanks for all the info needed to do it… :-) Cheers!
I used ones that were recommended to me. Unfortunately they're sold out now. But I believe they also fitted a VW Passat of the same year. You may have to do some digging on the A2OC forum online.
Did not work for me. Tried the springs with my original 2003 struts. Boot would not close as the gas part of the strut is too long and compresses the springs before it gets neat to closing
@@loafabout609 Ordered, fitted, and working as the video describes. Awesome stuff. Many thanks. I do not think I have used my boot/tailgate so much in its life. My Family is now bored with the 20th time I have shown them this mod. They don't understand my excitement.
