Niko the A4 is not faster in a straight line. Even with the new 2017 252 horsepower output it is now even with the A3. The A4 weighs 250+ pounds more than this car even in it's most basic trim level. It also does not handle so much better. I own an A3 and had an A4 as a loaner.

How's the A3 been so far?

Neil Sahay It’s been great. The dealer experience has been terrible. There’s a recall on the passenger airbag wiring harness. It’s been in for two days for that and it’s still not done. They broke a special tool that is needed for that job and had to put everything back without the fix. Service is typically double the cost for a VW with the same drivetrain. I kind of expected that but I still don’t like it. Otherwise the car has been really nice. I have zero complaints. I was not expecting AWD to feel so much better even in dry conditions. Particularly a Halsey system that is so front biased. The car is well balanced and feels quicker than my GTI with the same power. I would prefer a touchscreen over the version of MMI that they have in this one but it is quick and responsive and CarPlay works nicely. Trunk is small and shallow but I expected that. Really solid car. I have zero regrets.

+Bryan Lai I bought a CPO 2015 A3 2.0 quattro on New Years Eve. I bought it as a commuter car. It's the perfect size, hauls ass, and it's actually the cheapest insurance I've had on an Audi. The one I found had about 20k miles and the original owner bought Audi Care. I get free scheduled maintenance and a 100k warranty. I paid about the same as that new 2016 VW Golf GTI S w/ DSG I drove in my gti vs gli video. I'd stick with the A3 sedan and avoid the hatchback version. If you need the hatch, get the Golf. New Car Spin A3 is a fantastic car. Subjective of course- For me personally, I just prefer the GTIs steering wheel and red accents. Performance wise, the GTI is lighter and is pretty awesome with some sticky summer tires. AWD is awesome off the line of course. Both can be retuned. Tough call. I'm actually contemplating both of these cars

NMEofdaST8 I ended up getting a 2017 GTI in Sport trim with DSG. The car is pretty awesome. Great daily driver. Really has 2 personalities going from normal to sport mode. I got a decent lease. No clue what to get next! 😲

I'd hold onto the Audi. The Golf is getting old.

The B&O on the A3 is not as wholesome as the A6/A7/A8, but there is a significant price difference. I have B&O in my A6 and it's astounding compared to the Bose. As for the A3, B&O is well worth it. If there's anything tech-wise you can pay to upgrade in your car, it's the stereo. A good stereo will never go unnoticed and it will never be outdated over time. I wouldn't get a VW without a Fender. The Fender is loud compared to the B&O. I do miss the Monsoon system they had in the MK4 Jetta. Overall, B&O is the only way to go, and I might just do a demo for you (even though some audiophiles can argue it doesn't make a difference). New Car Spin I watched that vid with my headphones and it def comes through. I'm not a serious audiophile, but I definitely appreciate a nice stereo. My wife has a Golf R with the Fender and an upgraded sub would almost make that system enough for me. +Sam Schaefer Sport package includes"Drive Select" which allows for switching between comfort, Auto, and dynamic modes for steering and engine/transmission, and as a result, the car changes behavior.

That feature is in the S3 as part of the Drive Select feature. I just got one this weekend, and it makes a pretty difference in the sound of the exhaust. The A3 has a much quieter exhaust though, so Im' not sure it would make much of a difference. It's fairly significant in the S3, but they're both sweet cars.

+Heath Fournier Sport package in the 2017 A3 includes drive select, among the sport seats and flat bottom steering wheel. Also, drive select now tweaks quattro for rear bias when is dynamic mode, just like the new TT model.

+Jorge Franco Paddles come with the sport package which includes different seats.

I have more fun in the A3 than most other Audis. I do love the b8.5 S4 manual. But the A3 interior is far more practical and up to date.

New Car Spin thanks for the feedback! I’m a fellow Austinite by the way. Reasons I might be pulling towards the A4 is the interior vents, the 19 speaker B&O system option, etc. Whereas I like the smaller/sportier look that the A3 has to offer. If one of them were blatantly cheaper, I’d probably lean one way. But on the used market, I find both between $25K-$30K. Tough call!

+Big Pun The standard seat is fine. I have it lowered all the way and the front vision borrow is raised about 50%. The seat is firm, the bolsters are not too "jabbing" in my side. The trick is to get into the seat so that I'm centered. All Audi and VW front seats are further inboard to protect in a side impact, so getting all the way over and into the seat can be a chore. When planted properly, it feels perfect, with plenty of headroom. If my knees hit the steering wheel, I know that I'm not fully back against the setback or the steering wheel is too low. This happens if someone else drives the car and slightly disappointing since it doesn't have seat position memory. I avoided the sport seats because the seat bottom is too confining and my balls need space. I didn't care for the S3 seats because I felt perched up high and it was noticeably worse than the standard seats.

Outside of insurance, if you buy Audi Care prepaid service, your only expenses would be tires and brakes. Tires should last through 30k miles and brakes 40k-60k miles. It all depends on how you drive.

There are 2 engines in the A3. They both use the VW EA888 turbo 4. One produces more torque while the other produces more hp. Oddly, the one with more torque is fwd, while the one with more hp is quattro awd.

Uh... 2017 has virtual cockpit. The car was released in 2015 in the US. Is "2 years" too old for you, or is it just a big number? You should point your bitching to the A6/A7 interior, WHICH HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE 2012.

You must be living under a rock cause the first Audi A3 was launched back in 2002 as Sportback and the second generation A3 was launched summer of 2003. The interior and front console has practically been unchanged since then. It's the same circular air vents, the same form factor on the cockpit etc. Yes, a new virtual cockpit has been introduced but the design concept has remained unchanged. The digital display feature is still just a feature implemented into yester years design switching analogue with digital. That's all. As I said, all the other models in the Audi fleet has received several interior upgrades and changes but the A3 is lagging behind as untouched. VAG just confirmed that the A3 will be upgraded in 2019 (perhaps late 2018 for some). The Q3 that entered production in 2011 is based on the A3 and that model premiered with the newest front console and interior design so I suspect the A3 Sportback and Sedan (or Saloon if you like) will inherit the same interior system.

The current layout in the A3 maximizes the cabin space. 3. The A4 interior in an A3 would not due to cabin size. 4. The A3 uses a different architecture than all other Audi models except for the TT. The A3's interior is only slightly better than a top of the line GTI. It isn't worth $20k more than the GTI. The A3 optioned the way my GTI is would have been $50k. I'm sorry that is just far too much for that car. I can get a Golf R for less which is a much sportier and exclusive car. If you feel that spending that kind of money on an entry-level Audi is an intelligent decision, then you are as bad a decision maker as you are a car reviewer.
