Just wanted to give a quick update, been struggling with some health problems and the house took way longer to complete than expected. House is now complete and I installed my lift yesterday. Gotta get some maintenance done on my daily driver VW TDI then I can start yanking the blown up LS4 outta the Audi to replace with an LC9. Stay tuned.
I got an a4 that I would love to do this swap to! Only problem is that it's FWD. I did see someone change their A4 to Quattro from FWD. I'd wanna do a FWD to Quattro to LS but I figure at that point its not worth it. My engines reasonably young with only like 68K on it.
Much appreciated! I’m designing motor mounts and everything around the B7 A4, but everything should be applicable besides the transmission mount for a C5. I’ll have some big updates coming within the next month I hope!
Thats such a nice build! It really messed with my head seeing/hearing an otherwise stock looking medium sized euro sedan roar to life with the typical crossplane crank v8 sound that you americans are used to 😄 good job!
My eyes and my ears are so confused 😂 I’ve had my b7 for 5 years and loved it but have blown the head gasket of the 2.0t at stage 3 with over 220k miles so starting to look into things like this and 2.7t but don’t have much knowledge beyond getting the 2.0 to stage three myself
Do me a favor and measure the engine bay length on your B8: measure from firewall to the radiator or plastic above radiator. Also measure from the centerline of the front wheel to the firewall or radiator. If you can get me those measurements I can tell you if it will fit. It’s possible it could fit but I think the B7 has a longer engine bay
I'm doing essentially this to my 2006 A6 (also starting with a 3.2). Using an OB4 transmission and an LQ4 engine, although I was going to go the route of using the GM starter, and adapting the GM flex plate to the Audi flywheel. I've got some CAD of my own started, but would your bolt patterns be the same as mine? I could be persuaded to use the Audi starter if you're having a good experience. Also, assuming you had to go front sump with the oil pan - what pan did you use? Or did you make it yourself like I was planning to?
I’m torn, it’s either blasphemy, utter lunacy, or shear awesomeness; or any combination of the three. For reference of my opinion, I own a B7 A4, a Q5 TDI, and a LS2 Trailblazer SS AWD. This checks off all the right and wrong boxes.
In my mind, it will be more reliable, more powerful, and probably just as fuel efficient. I plan to swap a B7 wagon with a mild cam next for a daily 😌 adapter plate should be finished today hopefully 🤞

Not sure yet. The engine bay on the B8 is smaller than the A4 so I would assume the front core support and radiator fans would need to be clearanced. Also have no idea if the subframe would clear. I’ve developed my components around the B7 but do plan on working on the B8 next, but this is a year or two out.
Jets Set . Bell housing bolt pattern is the same between auto and manual; I actually used an Audi RS5 rear engine plate to get my dimensions which only came with a dct. Of course a crank shaft adapter would have to be fabricated. The problem is the engine bay on a B8 chassis is shorter that the B7 I believe. Measure from the firewall to the front clip and reply to this comment.
Joel Ricknauth yes and no. Stock ecu only has a few sensors going to it to keep the dashboard happy, but still am looking at options to remove warning lights. Engine is controlled by Holley Terminator
I don’t think so, the B8 came with the OB2/OB4 transmission so the engine position was optimized for that transmission (engine bay is smaller.) the B7 still used the old O1E style transmission so the engine sat farther forward because of this.
I plan on doing this to my 04 a6 quattro (currently has the 2.7t in it) do you need to change the drive train as well will the quattro work with a ls3 engine?
No idea on a C5 A6. Check out Project “Judas” RS6, as I believe the owner was able to use an O1E with an LS engine because the C5 has a larger engine bay. However, I think I remember reading that the C5 4.2 cars have a longer hood...
i read your thread and i have a few questions if you don’t mind, i want to vr6 swap a c7 a6 and it looks like you were able to pin in sensors to the ecu and it worked. do you think it being near in age, build, manufacturer, the engine wiring can be hand split, wired and pinned? all things considered in the swap, this is the main thing that concerns me. i’m already building the engine and i have a passat i’m sure i can get it into, but i’d much rather get a specced out audi and engine swap it. it’s also from the touareg so it’s intended for longitudinal mounting
I bought an A4 transmission, known as the OB2, because when I first started this swap I didn’t know if it would be possible to get everything working with adapter. I will eventually upgrade to an OB4 S5 transmission if the OB2 doesn’t hold up.
I’m not familiar with any of the GM transmissions auto or manual. The whole reason I went with an Audi was for the AWD, is I was going to go rwd then I’d swap an e90 bmw. Check out lse90.com. Their kits are pretty nice and they even have wiring guides and canbus conversion modules.
Working on it still! I just need to perform some bug fixes of the starter assembly which means flywheel too. So latest design starter components were supposed to arrive Thursday but were delayed unfortunately
I’ve been meaning to record new video but been very busy lately. Most recent updates are: simpler and cheaper adapter plate (in terms of manufacturing), new starter and mount, simpler and cheaper flywheel. I hope to release a new video soon.
Motor mounts, subframe and transmission mounts are different. Front engine bay is also shorter on B8 cars... it’s possible but most likely the engine will be sitting much further forward compared to the B6/B7 (2002-2008)
If I was going RWD, I’d save the hours worth of time and swap an e90 BMW personally. LSe90.com has mounts for everything that are proven and wiring guides to use the Holley Terminator X and even factory gauge cluster.
Which transmission that works on the lq4 on a the same Audi in the video and still be Quattro any one has any ideas bc am doing an ls swap but don’t know which transmission fits it and still be 4wd
Heyy dude someone is selling me an Audi A4 I believe it’s the same model as yours just don’t know the particular model name unfortunately. It was just mentioned to me and out of curiosity wanted to see if it could be Ls swapped. Do you have the blue print on how to convert this ? I’m getting the car with a blown motor for 700. Everything else works fine
There’s a build thread in the description. I’m a mechanical engineer and I designed the adapter-my father is a tool and die maker so he fabricated it. Once I get moved into my new house (hanging drywall this week) I’ll make more of a introduction and summary video to cover these details.
