Ive been thinking about doing a ls1 or ls2 swap in my 08 S4 quattro in the near future.. What about the b7 S4 6 speed manual, how would it compare to the b8 trans you used in your build with the spacing and subframe clearence etc? Any help or pointers are appreciated..
Well pretty much the B8 transmission is required unless you want to relocate your radiator to the rear of the vehicle. The axle flanges on the B8 are about 6 inches forward compared to B7, so this means engine sits closer to firewall with B8 transmission
@projectLSaudiA4 I appreciate the info.. Do u know of anyone who has done the radiator relocation successfully/ a post I could follow? If I do decide to go that route.. Also are u offering the adapter plate or motor mounts for sale for this swap?
However I do fear If i end up using the b7 trans and do the rear radiator setup, that the weight distribution from those few more inches forward on the nose would cause the car to handle worse than it already does. With the b7s already being nose heavy with the 4.2.. Think im more worried about that than the radiator relocation..
@@eanthony2013 relocating the radiator for me isn’t an option because you have to cut up to many things. I don’t plan to sell any parts for the 0A3 or 01E transmission. You can search LS audi swap and find some people who have done it
I’m loving the v8 sound and I was actually thinking about doing the same . Instead of an Audi though I have an 2008 vw Passat and was wondering if you could give some knowledge or thoughts on what engine swap I should do .
This swap would be more beneficial for the B8 S4/S5 guys. They already have the 0B4 from factory, diff is strong, engine bay room is there for sure on the S5 because if that huge 4.2 V8 can fit, a LS should have no issues dropping in.
Yeah most of these parts I see him mentioning are already on the B8’s. If I was him I would just scrap the B7 platform and get a B8 S5 shell since it already came with a V8 and develop for that. Plus there’s little support for the B8 platform besides a few players. The chances to build a niche for the B8 community and have support are much greater than the B5/6/7 where it’s already flooded.
No real updates right now. I did however build a pole barn to dedicate to working on the Audi and believe I’ve found a CNC mill for manufacturing the adapter plates. Will post an update video as soon as I can.
All of my components are designed for the B6/B7 A4, which is nearly identical to C5. I’m still working through some design issues with the starter so once that is sorted I will be selling a complete bolt in kit.
Not sure yet. The engine bay on the B8 is smaller than the A4 so I would assume the front core support and radiator fans would need to be clearanced. Also have no idea if the subframe would clear. I’ve developed my components around the B7 but do plan on working on the B8 next, but this is a year or two out.
That's a beautiful swap! I'm interested in putting an LS into my 2014 Allroad, currently with the 2.0t and 8 speed auto. I'm partially disabled so I'll need to stick with the auto. Are you interested in selling me whatever adapters and tech support I need? I'd certainly appreciate your response and your time! Thanks, Dave
Thank you! I plan on working on the 8-speed swap and mechanically the transmissions are nearly the same. The problem is the electronics are all canbus based so I’m going to have to map all of that and test it. I have purchased a 2014 A6 3.0T to log / develop this but might be a year or two away still.
@@projectLSaudiA4 if I utilize an aftermarket engine management system for the LS, will I need to modify the factory canbus system to control the auto transmission? I was hoping the stock transmission would still be fully operational without any canbus modifications. May I ask your thoughts on that idea? Also, do you sell the required adapters to mount the LS to the transmission and also motor mounts? I'd rather buy from someone like yourself who had successfully done the work versus fabricating my own.
@@davelucas7816 the automatic is 100% canbus controlled which is sent most of the signals from the OEM engine ecu. I’m working on my components for the manual still but hope to sell mounts and adapters this year.
Got married, winter, and been busy with work. Lately I’ve been working on reworking the starter design and trying to reduce manufacturing costs. My latest design for the starter didn’t work so still gotta fix it-once I solve that manufacturing costs are reduced due to reduced complexity so I can outsource manufacturing to offer kits for sale. I also spent the winter writing the modular code for a fully functional canbus bridge that produces all the OEM functionality of the factory ECU (besides cruise control). -Goal is to finalize adapter plate, flywheel and mounts and start selling these components. -Next design subframe and oil pan to ease installation of the swap and increase ground clearance. -Then lastly offer a plug and play ECU wiring harness that eliminates mostly if not all of the wiring difficulty.
@@projectLSaudiA4 used to drive a 2010 camaro SS and often wondered what it would have been like as an AWD car. I know its not all the exact same but I think its sick to see and close enough for me. Wish I could promise I'd be one of those buying a kit but believe I will be following!
Not a LS fan by any means, but I'd really consider doing this swap to my Avant over the 2.7t that ive been consodering. Wpule love to have a reliabl3 V8 in my avant. Hope to see this get completely sorted soon!
Thanks, yeah to be honest this was the first LS swapped car I’ve even driven. I’ve always been an I5 fan personally. I’ll post some updates soon I hope 🤞
Hey I have a 328i xdrive e92 do you think I would be able to ls swap it honestly? Been looking around and haven’t seen it done yet but seen it done on multiple other vehicles 🤦🏽♂️ ik I could do the 6.0 I just don’t know how to even go about it right now!
Been following this for about two years now, so hyped for the kit when it comes, got an ‘07 a4 with ‘02 s4 motor and trans swap and want something a bit beefier
Hey my 4.2 b6 s4 is on its way out I’m looking into different swaps I was going to ls but I thought it would be extremely pricey what’s the ballpark of parts being worth?
Well to be honest I’m not entirely happy with the current design / cost so I still haven’t finalized the kit. I’m actively looking into reducing manufacturing costs via a design change for the bellhousing adapter / flywheel / starter, but currently the kit as-is would cost around $4,000. This is mostly because I have to outsource manufacturing. Doesn’t include the motor or transmission nor does it include the ECU. You would get: bellhousing, flywheel ring gear, starter bracket, motor and transmission mounts, serpentine brackets, front CV axles, and a canbus bridge (designed for Holley Terminator X Max ECU only). Radiator from V6 B6/B7 and AC compressor, Alternator from Q7 3.0TSFI, and electric water pump required. Audi Wiring harness and subframe would need to be modified and doesn’t include items like clutch, clutch flywheel (yes it’s OEM two piece design on the 0B2/0B4 transmission), GM accelerator pedal, drive shaft and other miscellaneous items that are required. In other words, I’m not ready to sell this kit yet as it’s not a complete bolt on solution yet. I have prototype components that I am testing / proving out that would reduce the cost by $800 roughly. I’ve also found the components needed to make a plug & play wiring harness but still needs some thought / time. Caleb
I’m working on launching a website soon. I have to work on some bugs with the starter design still. Subscribe because I will post a video once website is launched

Mechanically yes, 8HP55 bell housing is the same and physical dimensions (2011+ Audi automatic have 8HP55). The TCU is the issue, you’d have to use TurboLamik or HTG.
I used a Holley terminator X and harness. As far as the modifications to the Audi harness, most of it was deleted (cut). I just bought a wiring diagram and cut anything I wasn’t going to use.
Completely Random question..... How much easier do you think this process would have been using the 4.3 Vortech? I was just looking and its actually smaller in every way to the Audi 4.2 and can be built to over 800hp and would naturally have more torque because its the same displacement with fewer cylinders.
I’ve pondered the newer gen 5 4.3 (LV3) and yes you are correct. Those motors just aren’t quite as popular nor do they sound as good as the LS. But they would solve the packaging problems and most likely allow the use of an 01E or 0A3
I’ve been meaning to record new video but been very busy lately. Most recent updates are: simpler and cheaper adapter plate (in terms of manufacturing), new starter and mount, simpler and cheaper flywheel. I hope to release a new video soon.
Hi, you seem to be the only one i could find that used a kinect for something like this, i am planning to try to use it for bodywork, from your experience do you think it can work?
Hey! No I don’t recommend it to be honest. I have since purchased a proper 3D scanner. I ended up buying an Einstar but I think there are cheaper ones now that accomplish the same results
@@operatorphantom1459 I think I paid $800 but I also had to get a better laptop too with 64gb ram. I believe there are much cheaper options that came out within the last 6 months.

So I just asked my 13 year old son to figure out what we can put our built 6.0 with a new 2650 in, I told him it has to be an awd car. I wanna be able to daily this thing but drive the shite out of it too. What’s your thoughts on an 700whp 6.0 in one of these cars?.? Is there any way to strengthen the drive components? I wanna be able to run 9s in it if we do this.
The B6 01E rear end should support it, not entirely sure about rear axles. The 0B4 out of a B8 S4/S5 might be able to but there aren’t too many manuals B8s making that kind of power so it’s relatively untested. I too plan on making my car run 9s so I will find out! My backup plan is to use an 8HP55 and TurboLamik TCU from the MLB platform cars (B8 A4, C7 A6, D4 A8 etc) as they are strong. There’s a VR6 swapped B7 using an 8HP55 making 1000hp on RU-vid that I’m pretty sure he’s running 8’s but he doesn’t list any build specs on the car. I reached out to him and he’s using a D4 A8 4.2 8HP55 and the rear end from the same car. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1ZHMAFjYmNg.htmlsi=Naxf0DXiRRm0u7fg
I made a canbus bridge, which will be included in the kit, to convert the terminator signals to communicate with the Audi. Everything with besides cruise.
I think you are talking about the silver clip used to hold the flow sensor wheel in place, I just used a pick and removed it. Wasn’t too bad just hard to see
