Its another way of interor you have to see it in person to really like it and the lexus lc has such a lovely interior much more elegant and high quality then the others
I've sat in an 2018 BMW. I've sat in a 2015 RC 350. The BMW is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. It was pathetic in comparison to the BMW. And don't get me started on the BMW dashboard. The salesman was even embarrassed.
I'd go with the Mercedes but for some reason there's just something about the A5 design that appeals to me. Don't get me wrong, I still think the front end could've been designed way better but the rest of the car and the proportions (and that deep blue paint) are just so elegant and spot on.
Mercedes has really hit the home run with this C-class coupé. The way it looks, it seems like it's in another segment. It seems a lot more expensive than it is. Fantastic GT car, no such thing in the segment (and this is coming from a BMW fanboy). Yeah, sure, if you want a sports car and you like hitting some twisty back roads and have some fun, the Beemer is the clear choice (with a petrol engine and RWD, as it should be, goddammit). However, if you want a good car for cruising in luxury and comfort, the Merc is the way to go. It sure has some Überholprestige on the freeway.
Honestly, the C-Class Coupe is kinda ugly. The back is really bad and the Front doesn't save it. It's the ugliest car here. The interior looks good on video, but for some reason, it looks worse in person ? I think this car is overrated, the A5 is the GT and the 4 Series is the sport coupe here.
Kaisuke971 wow, I'm surprised you feel that way. Taste is taste I guess. As for the engines, I agree that the 30d and 35d engines from BMW are nukes, so I'd get the C class in AMG 43 form.
Audi is the best looking outside. Yes people will say "oh its boring", but that's just because most people don't understand design, don't get proportions of the car, etc. It's the most complex and "correct" design of the four, and it looks the most elegant and sophisticated. Mercedes is nice too, but the proportions are off in some areas.
Well looks are subjective but it is boring now matter how well its designed! To me the 4 series is just as well designed with right proportions etc but without being boring!
joe bloggs I agree that BMW interiors are ergonomically sound, but what's the point of owning a £30k+ car when it doesn't even feel special enough. Besides, the Merc and Audi also have interiors that are well built, good quality and ergonomically sound. However, what sets them apart is their attention to detail and general design finesse, which is to be expected of premium marques!
The M4 does come in hardtop convertible but I think if I was to get an M4 then it would have to be the coupe as the convertible takes away from that M4 hardcore experience. If I was to get a convertible then probably I would go for the 440i.
Merc really have knocked it out of the park in 2016! They were always slightly boring but soild, well built cars (my dad's w204 has 240,000 miles on the clock!). But this year they've become more desirable in the driving dynamic, looks and interior departments too! Well done Benzo, and great review Matt
joe bloggs Yeah, they're went through a cheap phase under a BS management strategy, but every since they realise that wasn't what buyers wanted.. They've been back on form!
I think that was the period when they joined forces with Chrysler and for some reason the cars quality really took a nose dive, seems since they parted they have gotten better quality wise. Although if you ask me I think Mercedes design has lost its way in most of its models. If you covered up the badges and paraded the cars to the general public I think most people would have a hard time recognising its a Merc, they should have retained some of their instantly recognisable Merc design cues.
I like BMW, mainly because unlike the other cars, it has a heritage and an identity that has been carried forward from its predecessors, which means in my view, it ages well and looks relevant on the road after a decade
fss 235 How will leaving the EU make Japanese cars, which are mostly produced in the UK, cheaper? Also, with the depreciation of the pound, I would imagine that the price of all goods, including cars will increase. It will be several years though until we will know the full magnitude of the effect.
mystlone77 I agree, it's not a solid as a 4 series or A5, but then the Lexus also looks a bit cheap with parts sharing with Toyota compared to the A5 or BMW 4
mystlone77 bmw 4 series interior is so outdated and plastic, but the one in the lexus is the worst. Mercedes looks most luxurious inside as well Audis virtual. I rate the interior this way mercedes>audi>bmw>lexus
4 series or RC for me, M4 preferably. Audi dont even give you leather seats or RWD as standard yet people want to buy a glorified VW that shares parts with Skoda LOL
The best for me is the BMW 4 Series, still working with classic needles in the odometer, very spacious and it has a wilder looking the design. But man ALl 4 are just great cars for driving and owning. Great Review. Thanks.
From personal experience I owned the audi a5 2017 coupe and I currently own the mercedes c250d 2017 coupe. In experience i can say that the audi felt like a way more solid and stable and fast car than the Mercedes. It had a smoother gearbox, engine and more quite cabin. Overall i think that mercedes is not worth buying, its just the name you pay for and nothing more. Audi all day everyday 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I'm a Mercedes Benz fan (specifically their C class models) and to no surprise my favourite here is the C class Coupe, can't really fault it with much besides that ridiculous monitor, sat NAV that they have been getting wrong for years. I would still choose the saloon instead of the coupe. A C class is definitely a car I'm going to buy in the future (if they continue with ti be this good).
I'm currently on the brink between the A5 Sportsback Quadro 2.0l TFSI and the C 300 Sedan. I've already had a testdrive with the A5 and I loved it. I never expected the 257hp to have such a punch since there is almost no turbo lag. I am currently driving a C 200 CDI T-Model (S204) and I like it but it is boring compared to the A5. I think you made a huge mistake in driving the diesel engine and fwd only. The quadro sends more power to the back than to the front and it is unbelievable how much grip you get with the A5. If the C Class doesn't blow me away I'll get the A5. BMW is no option for me after sitting in one at the dealership. Cheapest plastic you can find. It just doesn't feel premium as the price point suggests. I was never a fan of Lexus and I think they build absolutely horrendes looking cars.
I'm a massive Audi fan and own one myself however the new Audi A5 exterior just doesn't do it for me. The interior of the Audi is the nicest by far but the C Class wins on exterior looks. Always annoys me how they only drive the FWD not Quattro models.
The Merecedes although a great car, according to me loses out to the BMW as the 4 series is more practical, better looking and is much sportier to drive which is critical in a coupe
Mr Smith that may be true for it's interior but otherwise the beemer has aged really well and as far as looks and driving dynamics go I think it can still hold it's ground
"according to me" yeah like we're going to listen to a guy who lives in a mud hut in a country where they shit in the streets talk about which is the best luxury car. Dude worry about not shitting in the streets and eating more then 3 meals a week and then we'll talk about luxury cars lmao
I think the C looks not only ugly, but as if the backside slopes down too early and that's because they just fitted the S Coupe design on the C skeleton. Which is lazier than what Audi does because at least the A5 looks like an A5 and not like every other Audi. Also the C interior is nice sure.... if you're 80. All I'm saying is I'd have picked the Audi or BMW over the Merc.
My thoughts exactly! They've been exchanging the designs between the classes with minor changes these past 2 years or so and called it a day. Audi's design is nicely refreshed with similar and at the same time very different lines, more aggressive looks, and that interior with the virtual cockpit looks superb especially if you get it with red accents and red sport seats
First time that i like your test comments because normally you are pushing too much BMW in the tests. Sporty handling ist not always the most important thing on a car. Thank you for this nice test and objective comments!!
joe bloggs yes for sure, a coupe must be a bit sporty you are right for this video. But that's not the point. I am saying for all his videos tests, opinions. Too much BMW fanboy bla bla bla like: On the end BMW wins cause its the sportiest. Thats Bullshit!
The BMW 4 series is the best here. It's a younger car. The C Class is leaning too much toward luxury and suits an older person. Hence why I went for a 4 series GC. Funner to drive, looks awesome, huge boot.
Ok, i'll admit the merc's interior looks nice. But why the hell do so many people complain about the BMW interior? It is simple to use and looks really clean and sporty. And for extra luxury looks you can get a lether dash and some other lether colours.
1. It hasn't distinctiveness a M4/X6M nearly looks the same as a 1 only the 7 and the new 5 look diffrent 2. Expect the infotainment they do nearly look the same as in 2009 3. They use much plastic 4. Some think it looks boring (which I don't)
+Robin M4 and X6M looks like a 1 series? really? The idrive might look the same as 2009 but it is vastly improved and why change it if it is not broken and remember BMW were one of the first if not the first car manufacturer to have this. The plastics are of high quality and you can have leather (different grades are available) and trims finishers in wood, carbon fibre and yes plastic. But actually I have to say the new 5 and 7 look very similar.
MB & BMW's are ugly, but at least BMW makes good cars... Mercedes makes crap cars though. In 2016 they ranked 14th in car brands. For 2017 they ranked 20th..... Audi, BMW, & Lexus. Were all in the top 5 car brands for 2016 & 2017.
I think Mercedes sacrificed practicality for looks (except for cup holders) and still they're just putting the same design in every coupe model. Nevertheless, my vote for both practicality and design goes to Audi A5.
So when reviewing the other cars this guy got the additional packages and suspensions and then when he got round to the audi he didnt even get a quattro model, A5 didnt stand a chance in this review
Motorweek were disappointed with the Merc, and it stopped from 60 in 120 feet which is very poor and handled poorly. The Audi's engine is equalled by a BMW 2.0 diesel that BMW released close to ten years ago. I don't know how Mercedes and Audi have become so successful selling out of date tech.
carwow 177hp 2.0d released in '08 in the 1/3/5 series? 0-60 time matches this new Audi A5 and very similar economy figures comparing them. Then a year later BMW updates the 2.0d to 184hp then uprated again for the F10 5 series
Brilliant Review as ever but I think Audi is just... not a match for the other car. it looks old, the satnav in long term isn't as good and the merc and bm are better, considering the a5 is the latest of the three. but what really takes the cake is that you won't get a car from audi dealer across germany is your car is in for a service.
What I especiallly love about CarWow is that they're not afraid to say the actual truth! So many reviewers would have said that the BMW is best just because traditionally BMW's are normally the best handling cars. CarWow is so good at providing reviews that acually matter day-to-day
When you refer to miles per gallon, please note some of us consume US gallons, which are 80% of an Imperial gallon (4 US quarts vs. 5 US quarts), so US MPG would be 80% less.
Am I some sort of alien? The A5 looks amazing inside and out. Merc interior looks cheap and gimmicky and BMW looks a 60 year old's dream drab car. The Lexus just looks like fucking alien magic inside and out.
I'm sorry but the A5 Sline in black color is just a level above the 3 others. i tested the sportback Sline and it was so fucking impressive!!!! (i drive the A4 B8.5 Sline and the A5 Sline is much better) when i see the C coupe AMG pack it's beautiful i agree but not comparaison with the A5 Sline (take both with AMG PACK and Sline in black color and just compare it guys)
Get a BMW 440i or 435i 2nd hand it is just beautiful to drive and extremely fast. My father has one and it drives brilliantly silky smooth 3l i6 engine. Don't go for the bullshit diesel they are more suited in the 1 series. The 428/430 or 435/440 are the ones to go for get in Estoril blue with Harmann kardon sound system and you have a perfect car. Spectacular
Haven't had an audi yet. I have owned VW's, so I'm assuming they are very similar besides the upgraded trims. I loved my C350. And i still feel the newer Mercedes interiors are the best in most classes. If you're just looking for a comfortable commuter, the Mercedes is the way to go. As always, the biggest complaint is the sluggish gearbox, which is only a downside if you prefer more of a performance feel. Otherwise, the gearbox is very calm and pleasant. If you are a hard driver or prefer more of a performance feel go with BMW or at least an AMG if its in your budget. The BWM, from what I've owed is definitely more of the drivers car even with the 4cyl! If you enjoy driving and long road trips the BWM 4 series is by far the most comfortable and fun to drive of the vehicles in its class that I've owned.
is the bmw 4 series comfortable with adaptive suspension in bumpy roads as well? and is it really comfortable in comfort mode even with sporty orientation? thanks in advance
@Mat, yes the 'Audi Virtual Cockpit' is £250 upgrade, BUT you also have to have the 'Technology Pack' as well, which is another £1100. So £1350 in all! ;)
Why is your fuel MPG so much better than the numbers we get in the USA for the same cars/engines? In the USA these are mid 20s for the MPG, you're getting around 50 MPG... are your miles half the length in the UK? Or are they talking about KMPG?
I should not vote because I have the new A4 avant which I like a lot. So my vote goes to: outside design 1.Mercedes, 2. Audi, 3. Lexus, 4. Bmw... Inside 1. Audi, 2. Mercedes ( I dont like the Ipad design), 3. Lexus, 4. Bmw...
+sky works so I think the problem with the A5 is that it isn't really any more special than the A4. But the Merc Coupe feels a lot different than its saloon relation.
I was watching the video and I didn't understand why you were wearing a polo while outside it was clearly fall/winter. Then I realised that the comparison was "virtual", the Audi footage was taken lately. You were just wearing like the summer footage :)
