Kululekani Makeleni exactly. The people saying this car is so boring etc. are as biased as one can get, either bmw or Mercedes fans. Audi’s design is very beautiful and timeless, only thing that gets boring is that all their models look similar, but you don’t have to buy an Audi every time.
Just bought a used manual 6 speed 2018 A5 Quattro with the S line sport package, Bang & Olufsen sound, and heated steering wheel upgrades. 14000 miles! A beautiful car. Your video analysis hit all the high points. Some of the negatives don’t apply to me. I don’t have the nav system so the cockpit display is fairly clean. One button makes it a minimal display which I prefer. Thanks for the thorough review. You have reassured me I made a great purchase. Also test drove a 2017 BMW 440i xdrive. Audi’s shifting was so much smoother, especially 1st gear. The A5 does not have rev-matching on down shifting. So a more true manual feel, if you know what you are doing! Thanks again.
"In the Shoppe with Turbowski" felt a little different than before: Scott came across as substantially more passive, less dominant. Probably has to do with it not being in his garage anymore. His casual apparel was also a factor. Though maybe its mostly from his extended absence, and he simply needs a couple videos to warm back up. Still, happy to see him back! (and having the garage segment be more of conversation between two people instead of with the camera)
VAG uses pedal velocity based brake assist. I had a Mk6 Golf TDI and you couldn't turn it off. So even if you just want to brush the brakes, you had to be very slow and deliberate with the pedal to avoid getting a boot full of brakes.
I've been lurking for a long time, have watched all of your videos a few times over, and felt inspired to post: This is one of the first time's that I've seen you very excited over a car (at least in terms of how you show it in your videos). Really makes me want to go try out an A5 -- I was looking into an S5 for a while, but was turned away because of the lack of 'standard features' for the price range (you didn't even get bluetooth audio for 38-40k on a used S4). This video flares up the interest again, because it looks like this would be a great daily driver (and would offer me something other than my noisy sports car). Happy to see your thoughts on it -- personally it would have been nice if we could have heard more about the quality of the radio (that would be difficult to replace in this car, and upgrading speakers is no fun in a brand new car, so it makes me more interested in the sound quality for this price range) as well as some of your thoughts on the cost of upkeep.
Audis are lease cars, dont buy. and if you value your money you wouldnt be considering audi (they would charge you extra for the windows, lug nuts, and hvac switches if they could)
Andrew Carson What did you end up buying? I hate the poor sound quality also in most cars and how hard it is to work on them. I want to check out the new Acuras and Lexus because as far as Acura (and Volvo too) they are doing nice sound systems in the commercials/advertisements.
man, with the last speech, you should be a politician! anyway. have my 2008 A6/allroad. has 450 Nm of diesel torque from the 3,0TDI. Best thing about the car: accelerates like a friggin rabbit out of a hole on no matter what surface. Dry asphalt? Wet cobblestones with leaves? Snow, slush, tight corners, wet tram tracks? Bring it on! Doesn't miss a beat, no tire chirp, no slip. Probably 3,0 I6 diesels with RWD from bimmers are faster. In an ideal world. In anything but ideal - quattro all day.
+1. Very nice review. .. The Audi A5/S5/RS5 coupe design will/has gone down in automotive design history; Its beautiful on the outside and inside. Signed, a former Audi USA MY95.5 UrS6 Kombi owner. From new a daily driver of ten years as the interior quality always impressed. The uber ski wagon . . Audi Quattro rules . . . .
Great to hear that you feel Audi's in good form these days...personally, when it comes to styling choices, I preferred the first-gen A5, or at least the mid-cycle refresh version thereof, but to each our own...
, while the interior is definitely a step forward with its minimalistic approach and great use of materials as well as technology I think Audi took a step back with the new design language they're using on the coop the headlights look like they're lifted off some Hyundai from 2012
Regarding panel gaps: The panel gaps on my F30 2016 328i are horrific -- like 1990s GM build quality gaps. No joke. Worst panel gaps I've had in any car I've owned since a 2002 Elantra -- which might have even been better.
VW group was pretty smart under powering these 2.0l for so long, let the aftermarket do all the r and d then pick and choose what has worked. Not that car makers work on such a razor thin profit margin but dollars saved do add up over years. Look at the proof, numerous huge manufacturers make the same product but cannot get the formula exactly right like these VW motors. Pretty smart.
if you can stretch and get the S5, the 3.0T motor is a beast. Got a 2018 S5 Sportback / Gotland Green - all options $69k ... hell of a car, same motor used in 2019 Panamera/Cayenne. Standard A5 is nice with the 2.0T 4 pot, but not the beefy S.
It's not quite the same engine. It's an Audi architecture, but the mill in the Porsche is more performance-oriented with a shorter stroke and wider bore to rev faster and it sucks gas so much harder because of it (but it's also way more fun).
Man you are good, loved the review. I have a 2004 A6 2.7t V6, love the car but hell to pay at the shop. You may have helped my shopping for the new whip. Thanks
Don't do it. Mine has 97000 miles: I have had it for 186 days. 64 (and counting) the car has been offline for repairs. That is 35% of the days I have had it. In the 8000 miles I have driven it, I have spent just a hair under $5000 trying to keep it running. That figure will rise, as it is back in the shop again. I spent $3771.70 yesterday, after the ECU failed. I drove the car FOUR MILES home, and, the car died in my driveway. Towed back to the shop less than 24 hours after getting it back...after it was in the shop for 44 days straight. They are beautiful to look at, but, they are steaming piles of shit, and, Audi is a bastard to deal with. Up until I bought this car, I have never hated any car I have ever owned. Nice cars, and, beaters. I genuinely hate this car, for the money, time, stress, and, embarrassment it has caused me. I leave it unlocked, hoping someone will steal it.
Bro check it out car and driver test of the 2018 audi a4 manual with the same engine, they say the manual is 0.1 second faster on both 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile than the automatic.
@savagegeese what do you think of the Audi S5 for the 2013-2017 gen? It has a 3.0 supercharged V6. You should do a video on those, and they are hard to come by in a manual! Anyways I love the content, been a big fan for quite some time!
I just don't get it how that Turbowski guy trashes everything from Audi to Bmw and whatnot yet he drives a freakin' convertible PT Cruiser on weekend trips to Alaska😂😂 It's like someone living in an african ghetto laughing at someone's Manhattan 5000 sq ft duplex😂
In b4 Hyundai fanboys come and say that Hyundai didn't copy Audi they just hired the guy that used to work for Audi. Lol. That doesn't change the fact that they COPIED the design.
nothing interesting to copy when im too busy snoozing away looking at this stereotypical "luxury" design that audi hasnt bothered to change for 20 years
I think the main idea is if you have a stressful corporate job + stressful commute, it's a place to relax on the way to/from and think. For $55k though, that can get you magnetic ride on a the 2018 mustang and virtually every option, plus a ton more power, but you also get the Ford service/dealership "experience" typically employed by job people that will treat your car like crap. This Audi is prob like many, a better buy if you buy one that's never been modified as a lease return CPO vehicle in that sweet spot of around 36k miles/1 user car.
07wrxtr1 successful lol if youre succesful you wouldnt be buying this. Its a meh car nothing really bad about it but lacks alot of character basicslly just another car on the road. Nothing special.
If only they'd add the manual to the A3. I like my GTI, but an A3 hatchback with the 6 speed manual would be my dream come true. GTI-like performance with the shared architecture but without all the squeaks and rattles. Plaid seats on the GTI are pretty cool though, so I won't complain too much.
Thank you. Great review again! I have had Audi's and bmw's and overall prefer BMW. But there is something special about the Audi interiors that few match. As for me, a 4 is a 4 is a 4. And for 55k, absolutely no way.
55000 ......ugh ..My Accord Touring V6 coupe was 40 and I think depreciation will be kinder to my Honda . I see way more A5's than Accord coupes and I have proven Honda reliability. Not to mention that sweet 3.5 .
So.....what's the point of having a coupe if it doesn't have any real thought to performance? Why pay that much money for a coupe with a 2.0T engine? Why not get a sedan or crossover at that point?
This new A5's design does not hold up to Walter De Silva's original design IMO. Although the Audi brand kindled my passion for cars, i find myself losing that passion as Audi introduces new models, and I'm still figuring out exactly what the reasons are. There are one big downside to the 4-cyc Turbo and DCT, and that is their maintenance/replacement cost once things start breaking. More parts = More things that can break.
Your soothing voice is perfect for review videos. Thank you for speaking like a normal human in your videos. Im so sick of "car enthusiasts" jizzing their pants everytime they talk about alcantara or adaptive suspension...
Agreed! There's just a lot of "ME TOO" / copy cat reviewers clogging up youtube trying to out dooshnozzel eachother with hyperbole and too many energy drinks. They don't make up for their annoyances with knowledge but instead they take the over cut/over edited/annoying music approach, but then don't do simple things like buy a decent mic/polarizing filter. My latest gripe: "5 things I love/hate about" videos. What is it with millenials and counting? you see it everywhere now. Damn millenials and their checklist lifestyle.
Clyde Glide Audi still rules in that department... look at how Lexus lights are rated, they just look good. the iihs actually rates those new Lexus LED headlights as being unsafe, all they do is blind oncoming traffic and they can't even illuminate roads properly
It has an Audi badge, no idea where you are but in the UK, driving an Audi is exactly the same as tattooing "I'm a cock" on your forehead. Edit: To make it clear, that doesn't mean I dislike Audis, just the drivers ☺
As an S5 owner, I totally understand the screen up on the dash. It made room for a floating dash and tons of room for large double cupholders, which in the previous version (which I also had) were in the way. And now there is a cubby that is partly open to slide the phone in and out without it showing. Mostly because that screen moved up there on the dash. Now, they could have had it fold in every time but that is unreliable.
Have u ever driven the a5? I use to own the S5 and love the steering! Thinking about buying this and having it delivered to me. The q5 steering was kind of loose so I’m hoping the steering is identical
@@summerbreeze5758 Actually I have test driven both an S5 and an A5 from 2019 the past few days and I really felt the A5 was just what what I was looking for, sure I have the money to buy both of them but it's not about having the most expensive car there is, sometimes less is more and since I do not live in a large country and everything is highly limited and monitored here, there is no point in buying an S5 unless you're the type who begs for confirmation from that 1 person out of 100s if not 1000s who thinks it's more posh to have an S5 over an A5. I ended up purchasing a 5 door A5 Quattro S Tronic from 2019, it has barely passed 9500 km and has the S5 steering wheel, S5 carbon dash, S5 rims, S5 seats and this car was ~30k cheaper than its S5 equivalent and don't even get me started on the huge difference in the monthly insurance rate so I'd say check with a reputable Audi dealer near you and just make sure that you know what you're looking for and that you do not allow yourself to be manipulated by some self righteous salesman, even the slightest doubt or uneasiness should cause you to not go for the purchase so just get your bearings right and check it out, I went in there with a very low expectation but left with an exceptionally high satisfaction, not only about the car but also the dealership itself.
@@Daurentius322 Totally understandable. There is a decent sound and performance difference, but you can make an a4/a5 as fast as an s4/s5 VERY easily. Audi did a fantastic job at making the entry level vehicles great.
After seeing this video in December I got myself a 2019 A5 Sportback Sline and i cant be happier. This car is so dope and practical and the best place to be when you get out of work tired.
I got an A5 2018 Sportback after weeks of indecision between Audi/BMW/Mercedes entry luxury models. So happy. The A5 is perfect for a young adult/professional.
I'm revisiting this review after owning mine for 5 years and I agree completely. Awesome car and very reliable. I've had a stage 1 tune and bolt-ons for the past year and it only adds to the fun factor.
I have the 2016. I was looking to see a neutral biased critique of the new platform and body style, since it will likely be with us for at least 5+ years. He hit all the things I thought might carry over, and gave what I thought was an honest evaluation on this next gen A5. I found it very very useful, and something that could be counted on. The complaining guy didn't add much to the video/discussion unless I missed it. Great production quality and I appreciated the professionalism of this review.
The complaining guy is turbowski. The mechanic that's burnt out from wrenching most of his adult life. . But he's funny as hell, and his appearances are one of my favorite parts of the channel.
SmoothJyzz Imo the previous generation of A5 has a better looking front, I don’t like what they have done to new grill, even the A6 too just doesn’t look as good as the previous
Here's how you improve the engine: add some port injection so the valves don't carbonize every 30,000 miles / improve the rear main seal / redesign the chain tensioner / no more plastic water pumps... how much more do you need?
Absolutely superb review, done by someone that gets cars. You will never win against people are biased for or against the A5 or Audi. It's not about being the best car, the fastest car, or best handling, it's providing a really really good car, that does many many things well. I have to say I miss my A5 Quattro, with the 2.0 TFSI. Superb all rounder, and it really does make you question what more you need out of a car.
I like you but Turboski need to concentrate on telling us some useful information like "This looks like it's easy to work on... etc" from a mechanic's perspective. Otherwise he might as well not be in the video!
He does exactly that, but in language that people with the ability to work on that car themselves can understand. The sarcastic language is how a mechanic would think about that car. If you can't pick up on it I doubt you would have the ability and understanding to work on a modern vehicle.
I really enjoyed this review. Looking at the underside of the car is a great idea and really showed the German build quality. One criticism - Scott was in no way an asset to this video. He was not really interested in the car and I question why he was involved. I keep him off camera and let him operate the lift.
Mark's reviews are definitely the most profound and most eloquently presented to be found on YT or elsewhere. The quality of the vids are only the cherry on the cake and I'd watch them even if they were available in 240p only. Thanks a lot for your outstanding work and keep goin'. It's a pleasure watching.
This is an absolutely beautiful car - the design is so understated yet striking. I don't need or even want an S5 or RS5. This beauty is more than enough for daily duties 👍
Good review ! I have a Q7 and I could not agree more on the diagnosis you made of the user interface (which is the same one: the part about voice control is THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING EVER. You spend 80k on a car and voice control is not bad, it is totally, 100%, dysfunctional (PS: audi told me they'll rely on google starting 2018). The screen brightness: never bothered me and i'm quite sensitive to light. Having switched from BMW, i'd say: way nicer interiors with Audi, quieter cars, but voice command in beamers works great (here is doesn't, period) and they are livelier to drive. I would recommend those new gen Audis if you look for discrete luxury, maybe not if you look for excitement.
I’ve come here because I was looking for a review of this car, I’m a subscriber but I mainly watched your last 1.5 year videos and I can see how far you’ve get into this reviews. Nice move to cut turbowski btw.
Audi is making such good cars these days. I was under the impression that "just" an A5 would be quite boring but after watching your review I no longer think that. Turns out, "just" an A5 is pretty darn good!
I've owned two of the earlier A5's. They are beautiful cars, and I wanted to drive it until the wheels fall off. But after 50k miles, all heck broke lose with problems that were unresolvable, and customer support is poor. The truth is not in engineering, and beauty is only skin deep. 😞
My S5 has been 13000kms (yes, thirteen thousand) of unbridled heartache. First a wheel bearing, then the proximity key stopped working. Coolant bottle cracked. Constant misfires, and CEL's. Then the ECU failed. It took 44 days, and, $3774.70 for the ECU to be sorted out. I drove it 7kms home, and the car died in the driveway. It was towed back to the shop again today. As of January 30, 2019: I have had the car for 186 days. 64 of those days, the car has been offline for repairs. 35% of the time I have had the car so far, I haven't been able to drive it. I have spent as much trying to keep the wheels turning, as I paid for the down payment. I hate this car with an absolute passion. I would jump for joy if it was stolen, or wrecked. Audi builds crap cars, and, backs them up with crap customer service, and, support.
@@Gandalf721 I am thrilled that your friends don't have problems with ther 2014, and newer Audi's. Mine isn't newer than 2014. There is no warranty. There is no lemon law where I am.
That thing is gorgeous. Most car manufacturers are trying too hard to do unique, aggressive, and futuristic, but often come out looking too busy, and awkward. I like the clean styling of this. In my opinion it isn't boring at all, it's just tastefully designed. I love that it's not all bloated looking like most newer cars.
This is what Audi does. It's a lovely auto with lovely attributes. You get one you're hooked for life as I have been for 30+ years. Nice video btw, thanx.
Mr.Goose alone will be more than enough to shoot this review.Turbowski here is a waste of time and always asking about silly questions. Mr.Goose is Excellent and even has more Technical Knowledge than him.
