I am showing how to remove the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) on a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T FSI engine. The 2.0T engines have a problem with wearing through the cam followers and if not caught in time will need the pump and camshaft replaced. The follower is between $25 and $50 so it is well worth replacing it before you need to spend much more for a bigger repair.
Tools needed:
8mm Triple square
17mm wrench, long and short
14mm wrench
10mm wrench
13mm wrench
3/8 ratchet
3/8 extensions
T30 Torx bit

3:30 that banjo bolt! 8mm triple square with long extension. Couldn't see what the hell it was, total life saver. Thanks!

I wish RU-vid showed me this video first. Banjo bolt was super hard the way I did it. You should add "2006 A4" to the title of this video for more views. Thanks

I have seen many videos showing how to replace the cam follower on models that do NOT have the 8mm triple square bolt--thx for showing us how to remove the triple square!!

Your video has a lot of tricks that the other videos do not show you, like the magnet for getting that banjo bolt (I lost mine and had to order another one) also removing the shrader valve which gives you space to get to the fuel line. I have to say this job is almost impossible to do without a 17mm stubby and a long extension 8mm triple square.

Great video! I'm in the process of swapping in a new hpfp right now and the only problem I'm having is getting off that fuel line that's closest to you. I'm gonna try that method you used by using a long extension i tried for hours to find a way to get back there. Thanks for the video!

Yo!! Your videos have helped me tremendously the past couple of days, I just had a quick question. I'm doing a carbon cleaning on my 05 a4 b7, I managed to get the manifold off but ended up having to removed the hpfp in the process as the banjo bolt wouldn't give. Do I HAVE to replace the o-ring on the hpfp now? Or can I just reassemble? THANK YOU! Couldn't have done it without these videos
@audimotive
@audimotive 5 лет назад
I have gotten away with not replacing the o-ring if it was in good shape. Just put a little grease or oil on it so it doesn't snag going back in. But I wouldn't do it on someone else's car. Don't want a return for a leak

Cars&Stuff rough starts, can't turn on and off the car too many times or else it'll just bog out and die. I've gotten stuck at lights multiply times. I would also have to wait for the rpms to drop to around 900 before I can drive it. Speed pick up is like a slug and I also threw the code for it, HPFP? People are now saying my MAF could be faulty but I'm just so tired of spending on it now lol
@audimotive
@audimotive 7 лет назад
do you remember what the code was? those are some weird issues. I had no code or issues when my follower wore through and damaged my pump and camshaft. sounds like another issue as well. a MAF would definitely throw a specific code. no use throwing in more money until you can figure out what the real cause is

Hard to show a better angle. You have to stick your arm under the throttle body, your hand should be almost by the oil filter. And using a long extension to get past the lines to reach the banjo bolt

Are you getting the p0089? That seems to be a common and difficult code. Do you have access to a vag-com? Have you checked your fuel pump duty cycle? I would suggest checking the forums online. Lots of good information can be found to help you diagnose

Hello, I have the same exact model and unfortunately some rats chewed on my high pressure fuel pump connector wires. I have the parts and the wiring but I’m completely lost as to what to do😭😭😭 this is my first Audi and I don’t want to take it to Audi because they are gonna over charge me. Any tips or advice? The wiring and connector didn’t come together they came separately so I’m lost:(

If you can find a wiring diagram online for the fuel pump you can rebuild the connector. I have used a 1 day subscription to AllData to find stuff like that before. It used to cost like $25 for 24 hours

You can also just hit the Schraeder valve on the high-pressure fuel pump To release the pressure in the fuel line
@audimotive
@audimotive 6 лет назад
On a transverse engine you might be able to. On a longitudinal engine, I didn't have room by the firewall for a 17mm wrench for the flare nut. The valve was in the way and needed to be removed
@russell11fitzgerald
@russell11fitzgerald 6 лет назад
AUDImotive No you don’t use a wrench use a pin to hit the Schraeder valve it looks like a valve stem and that releases the fuel pressure

So i have a problem on my 2012 a4. I went to auto zone and A code of P2188 came up and i saw that it might be the MAF but then i started to look at forums and other people said they replaced the HPFP and its solved their problem hopefullly this solves my problem. Today i had some weird symptoms not sure if its related to this but my car would crank and wouldn’t start unless i would press on the gas pedal and it would start sputtering a little, and a weird smell came from the exhaust but nothing like smoke & yes i have changed the spark plugs and coils so im not sure what this could be any ideas?

Hey Fernando, I'm trying to understand your question. There are 2 fuel lines to the pump. the line furthest back is a 17mm nut. The line closer to the front is an 8mm triple square bit. you have to remove both the nut and the banjo bolt

was the cam follower making loud noise, like if it was a diesel? is the clue that you need it replace?
@audimotive
@audimotive 7 лет назад
+Carlos Reyes I'm not sure how noisy the cam follower itself was. The first time it got changed, it wore all the way through and damaged the camshaft. I replaced the camshaft, high pressure fuel pump, cam follower and did the chain and tensioner at the same time. After that the car got a little quieter. But it's still louder than most because of the direct injection

If the sensor breaks is possible to replace the sensor?

Depends which sensor. The one on the end, is a fuel pressure sensor and can be replaced. The one in the middle, might be part of the pump itself

It depends on what engine you have and what sensor. On the 2.0 FSI, the low pressure sensor is on the fuel pump, the high pressure sensor is on the fuel rail. If you Google your car and engine, you can find where it is located
