It's actually not that bad for a supercar, my buddy had his TSX repair bill clock to $4,000 😲
@denvernn
@denvernn 2 года назад
Sticker shock yes but not that bad when you think of the caliber of car that is. You really going to drive her in winter? What was the repair on your friends TSX? I actually just spent close to 2k on my TSX. Oil change, brake fluid, front brake service, new rear pads, rotors, & calipers. It was a lot of coin but she treats me well.

I was just going to drive it once in a while in the winter maybe on the cleanest day make some cool videos? Didn’t even end up bolting the winter tires on yet they’re in the garage. You know what I have to double check, but it included what you listed off as well and more. How many KM do you have on yours?

LOL. I don't miss mine. I had a 2010 V10 with the gated 6 speed manual for 8 years. Put 100k km on it (I was able to get an extended warranty for 10 years to 100k kms) Probably did over $65k in warranty repairs over the time, plus my own money not covered by warranty (did the clutch because the engine had to be pulled anyway - it surprisingly wears well). Mine was literally in the shop for close to 2 months at some points waiting for parts from Germany. So much had to be redone on mine... fuel pumps, all the wiring harnesses, AC compressor, brakes, shocks (TWICE! crap), ECU's, throw-out bearing and on and on. Audi was good to me at least. Worst car I have ever owned, and honestly pretty unenjoyable to drive on an every day basis. It was great in the snow though, I will give it that - and at speeds above 200k it really did shine.
@carswithsonduren
@carswithsonduren 2 года назад
That’s definitely a lot of work, some of those I would’ve expected some of them not necessarily. What car do you have now?
@samueltolentino322
@samueltolentino322 2 года назад
@@carswithsonduren Yea.. I also did all the front end components, hub / bearings, full steering rack. I am convinced mine had the frame crack that some of the earlier models are prone to. It would make a knock/crack sound when turning or going over uneven surfaces. Audi was really good and replaced pretty much anything that could possibly be the problem. When looking to replace the R8 I narrowed it down and tested drove the Huracan, AMG GT and the 570s. I liked the 570S A LOT (except for the CF brakes). I decided against it ultimately as the Mclaren depreciation curve is steep and reliability scary; also, it didn't help that we got the finger twice while out on the test drive in it... frankly supercars are an banality in Vancouver and not really looked at with much esteem - at least the R8 was discrete and classy (gen 1) I was frankly sick of fixing cars at that point and then started to test every electric on the market at the time. My partner went with Tesla and I fell in love with the quirky i3S. Everyday driving is fun again. I might circle back to the "supercars" when there are finally full BEV versions - my guess is Lotus might be first to that party. Best of luck with your R8 - let us know how the BC Racing coil-overs go for you. I never took the chance on them for the R8, but I am seriously looking at them for the i3S as the lowering springs are crap.

Didn't you have your injectors inspected and cleaned when they dud your carbon cleaning. And why the he'll weren't the plugs changed at the same time. A good mechanic would have recommended these things. I hope you had the PCV replaced either during the carbon cleaning or this time around since the intake manifold was off again? Again, PCV replacement is a routine preventative maintenance item. And if your mechanic says otherwise, he's not using good old fashioned maintenance habits and is narrowly focused on only service schedules from the manufacturer.
@carswithsonduren
@carswithsonduren 2 года назад
I’m not sure they have been checked and looked fine at the time. PCV I don’t believe I have replaced but I will now double check as well.

On the fuel issue, while the manual says that E10 fuel (10% ethanol) is OK, this fuel is hygroscopic, and will absorb water from the atmosphere which can lead to condensation in the fuel tank if the vehicle is left unused for a while, which is quite possible for an R8. In the UK, I have only used super unleaded (RON 98-99) in my V10, but it spends most of the winter off the road. BP have just launched a RON 102 fuel, but I haven't tried that yet. I'd suggest upgrading your fuel and seeing if that makes a difference. It should also help keep those injectors clean which would more than offset the cost.
@carswithsonduren
@carswithsonduren Год назад
Thanks dude I’ll make sure to do that. Only the best fuel for her now. In Canada the problem is now almost all fuels have ethanol :(

@@carswithsonduren it depends honestly lol. The Gen 1 is my favorite, if I know how to drive a manual by then I'll get the V8 or V10 version, if not probably just the R-tronic V8. If I decide I want some power I'll get the Gen 2 V10 plus, and maybe down the line twin turbo it.

Hey brother! Thanks for another great video! Just wondering if you have any opinion on the difference between your 2008 and a 2014 dual clutch? I could only find some info on people saying its different, but not sure how different it is, hope you could help me. Thank you!
@carswithsonduren
@carswithsonduren 2 года назад
Thanks Kevin! Your talking about the Stronic? I think far superior to the Rtronic. The Rtronic drives like a manual in a way, clunky at times. Some argue this adds to the experience, ice can see why. Both have been good in terms of reliability. Also the two years you mentioned are pretty far apart from each other so having a newer car is big thing to consider.
@kevinqian1204
@kevinqian1204 2 года назад
@@carswithsonduren Thanks man, I really appreciate your opinion, exactly what I meant the Stronic, because here there is a really big difference in price between those 2, we are talking about a 40.000 USD between a 2008 and a 2014, just trying to see if it's really worth the extra 40K.
@carswithsonduren
@carswithsonduren 2 года назад
If you can find a 2008 in the equivalent condition and save the extra $40,000… well it just depends how rich you are I guess lol. I would probably save the $40,000 personally, but if I was a millionnaire or something I would just go get the Stronic because it’s technically better but marginally or arguably more enjoyable. Just some thoughts.
