Thanks Andy for another fantastic and informative video. I'm learning so much from your videos and also gaining the confidence to try some of the repairs myself.
Wow! That’s for your kind words Richard! I’m so glad my videos are helping people and giving them the confidence to give it a go. 👍 stay tuned for more!!!😉
This worked like a charm! Took 20 minute, took longer to warm up the TT to get all the fans on to check the fan control module. Did the old screwdriver stethoscope thing and the new pump is running just fine. Great video!
You still stand out with all your instructions! I did come up with a twist on your process that made my removal and installation a piece of cake. Being an avid cyclist, I retrieved a micro-mini ratchet from my bike tools that not only slipped easily into place but left ample space to operate one-handed during the removal and reinstallation of the mounting screws. I would caution you to trace your hoses forward and aft before calling it a day to make sure you have not accidentally kinked a hose and hampered the circulation of the coolant! Andy, You Da Man!
@@andycharger Welcome, but now I've reached the other end of the rainbow! After performing beautifully on a 40km test ride I went out again today and now the pump won't turn off. What sorcery is this Mr. Wizard?
@@stephenhancock2974 it will run on for around 5 minutes after engine switch off. That is its function. It continues to cool the turbo after switch off so runs (you can hear the whine) for an additional 5 mins.
Great to hear I was able to help you through the power of video Dan! Keep watching the channel and drop it a sub if you have not already done so! Thanks for your support! 👍
I remember when I got my car the pump started to make really bad noises… and then it stopped making any noises . I ended up opening the pump motor up and cleaning the brushes. Maybe a new pump would of been better but it was a ASAP fix. Thanks so much for the shout out. I was totally surprised 😮
Thank you Andy. Your timing is spot-on. I have found out my pump is not working. So that's the next job. On crutches at the moment so it will have to wait. Good video!
@@andycharger Thank you for the offer Andy. But I am in the Eastern Swamplands, otherwise known as Norfolk. Car hasn't moved or been started for almost 5 weeks. I hope to drop the roof so I can get in and start her up and maybe a trip round the village. If the missus lets me. Keep up the good work.
@@Al-qv5vs ok well if you don’t get it sorted by 18th Dec let me know. I have a game against RAF warbirds that night at the new rink in Cambridge so I’m sure it’s not too much further over. Offer is there if you need it mate 👍
@@andycharger Hello Andy. Sorry for late reply. Hopefully my middle son is visiting next week and he can investigate. Your offer is very kind and appreciated. I think it would be best part of 3hrs. I am coast side (north) of Norwich. Ref: My leg. I have torn a ligament in my knee. Worst pain of my life. Getting better slowly. Who are the Warbirds?
@@CarChris82 yes buddy I’m up for that. I was going to put it away for winter but it’s just too much fun to drive! So let me know when you are roadworthy and we can meet up 👍
Cheers. This is something im going to look into as I don't think my pump is doing anything. I don't hear it after I have turned the engine off even after driving hard. I didn't even know it had a second pump till recently. Noticed it the othher day and its quite rusty looking.
@@andycharger it's something I'll look into. Only had the car for 2 months and it's not my daily so its not driven all the time. Been trying to sort other things out 1st
Dear Andy, does this auxiliarry water pump should be on all the time? In my tt 225, it starts to sound even before starting the engine . And after driving remains on for around 10 minutes ?
Hi Alan. There is some “after run” for the aux pump after the engine is turned off. I believe this is to continue cooling components such as the turbo after the engine is switched off. This kicks in, even if you turn the engine on and then switch it off immediately. So I think this could cause a fair bit of battery drain on my particular car! It is normal though.
Had no idea there was an auxilliary coolant pump! looks like an easy job though, great vid....does the V6 have one i wonder? Looking forward to your new project car Andy, hope its a V6 ;)
Ha ha! I would love a V6. I just need to find one that is a suitable "project" as I would not want to take one on that is in perfect working order. I want to bring one back to life! I was looking at one on FB where a very nice lady was looking to sell her MOT failure but might have missed out on that. Just a 225 BAM though but that is fine by me!
@@andycharger Andy, everyone has a 225 ;) I think a V6 is the way to go here...unless you want to mod the hell out of it then its a 225, if you want to bring one back and restore it to original I think V6, I don't think you'd regret the sound or the driving experience.....its just finding one......i doubt there are any in perfect working order, all will need a lot of work hahahahahha
You make a very good point sir! Although I am a soft top driver, I do prefer the hard top shape (shoot me down!). Anyway, you are 100% right on the V6 if i can find one for the right money. Its one to look after for the future for sure. I will see what I can find!
And a plug for your channel too. What more could you want? lol. I had to blur out the youtube link though as I had mistyped it and did not want to mislead people. If they click on the link, they will find you. In fact I see from a few of the comments below people have done exactly that!
Pretty much yes. Even if you switch the engine on then immediately off, it will do this. The car is trying to cool the turbo down after switch off of the engine.
@@andycharger in that case myne is not working at all no fans are on.. Only when I put the heating on they both spin..temo sits at 90 though.. But not heard the fans kick in yet when idling.. Il leave it longer tomorrow and hopefully they kick in
Hi. No it does not have one on the 180 or 150 as they run a smaller turbo that does not get as hot. This pump is use to cool the turbo post spool down when you turn the car off. Good luck with the job. It’s pretty straightforward! 👍
Thanks for the vid, it took 10 mins because I removed the slam panel trim for easier access/visibility. The bracket that holds the pump was rusted onto the old pump on mine so I gave it a few taps with a rubber mallet around the bolt side then peeled it off the back, there are two tiny spot welds holding the bracket together and these failed so I put the bracket on the pump and zip tied it tight to make putting the mounting screws in easier. A dab of penetrating fluid definitely helps with getting the screws back in. Thanks again 👍
Trying to figure this out without paying someone and I find someone saying the 225 has an auxhillary pump but the 180 does not, does anyone know if this is true
Hello Eli. I checked with the guru (Dom from @theparrottbros) and he advised you do not have one on the 180. Only the 225 and V6 have a secondary or Auxiliary water pump. I hope that helps!
Hi there. The 180 does not have the secondary pump. The reason is that Audi only included it as a “run on” pump to cool the turbo after the engine is switched off. You can hear it run after engine is off. I guess they believed this cooling was not needed for the smaller K03 turbo on the 150 and 180 cars. So don’t worry that you cannot find it. It’s not there my friend!
hahaha and I was looking for the pump like a madman, when you turned it off you could hear a beep for a while but now you can't hear anything, Greetings and thanks
Hi Andy! The link for Steven is not working. I searched for him and the correct channel link would be with: harpersteven! Great video! Just bought a TT, and your videos are a big help already! If there will be a coolant leak I will know where to look! Also. There are some TT-s with no onboard computer controls on the windshield wiper arms. I know yours have those buttons, but do you know if there is a way to see fuel consumption on these cars? (I have a '99 front wheel drive 179HP, with a cluster screen witch has a line in the middle) Or maybe these are the "dumb" ones? :D
Hi Tamas! Thank you for your comment and pointing out the broken link. The actual link on the video at the top works as does the one in the video description, but you are right on the text! I mistyped it on the video. I am going to look into your question on the wiper arms. Thanks again for your support!
I’m not sure. From what I understand something keeps running after turning the engine off to ensure the turbo is cooled down safely. So maybe it is this doing the work? Thanks for you comment! 👍
Thanks Andy - I have a 2001 Roadster Quattro that I recently acquired, so your videos are very helpful. My auxiliary coolant pump is fine (for now) but coincidentally I just watched a video last night on the Car Wizard channel where he went through a whole litany of issues needing fixed on a 2002 coupe, including the same coolant pump. His parts and labor quote for that repair was $450, so this is definitely something I will now be willing to take on myself when the time comes! Link to the Car Wizard video below: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tfuN2hCre9A.html
Wowzers! $450 to get that done? I say Amazon is your friend in this instance. Buy your own, crack open the toolbox and save yourself a fortune. Thanks for the video link, I will check it against mine to make sure he is doing the same repair. I must be in the wrong job, there seems good money to be made from the simple jobs! thanks for your support.
lots of irrelevant chatter, pitching of other youtube videos, and irrelevant pan removal. Why they put car on lift and remove bottom pan when pump is at the top is beyond me.
