Welcome back to Fields of Vision! This week I investigate audio described movies - a great resource for those of us who limited or no vision who want to enjoy the silver screen!
Here are the links I talk about, and some extras I didn't have a chance to mention (yes, that stuff got cut in editing!):
Examples of Audio Description:
Frozen Trailer: • Frozen - Trailer with ...
The Lion King: • Descriptive Video Demo...
American Council of the Blind's Audio Description Project: www.acb.org/adp/
The Accessible Netflix Project: netflixproject...
Fandango your favorite movie theaters will tell you whether they have audio description available):
I hope you enjoy the video and find the information useful! Please leave a comment if you have experienced an AD movie or if you would like me to speak on another topic.
Till next time - Smiles! ^_^

Your video was terrific! My wife was visually impaired, and I have several friends who are blind and visually impaired. The face that ALL of the "Avengers" movies are described is wonderful, and I do my best telling everybody about it. When I pick up a video at the store, I'll check out the back, and I'm so thrilled that so many movies are including descriptions in their contents. Keep up the good work.

I have only recently discovered Netflix has a box on the screen of the description option if it is available. This is so remarkable for partially sighted such as myself and makes the movie totally accessibe and fun to watch. I hope it grows to youtube and so on as well.

Great video! I am 24 and was diagnosed with Pseusotumor Celebri in 2014 which resulted in some vision loss. I would love to know about your story and how your driving experience went with the Bioptic glasses! Keep making videos by the way it's very encouraging :) Roma

+xromalove Hi Roma, I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and vision loss. Sounds like it hasn't been a long time since that happened, so I am sure you are still going through an adjustment period. Sending you positive thoughts. I am glad to hear the videos are encouraging, I am really passionate about helping others who are going through this kind of stuff. It makes a huge difference to meet and be around others who have gone through it too, you know? I may do an "about myself video" someday, thanks for asking! I am very interested in sharing others stories and have a few amazing folks lined up to do interviews very soon. So, stay tuned for those! Hope you are well, and will be posting again soon. Thank you for commenting and watching!!! Smiles!

I totally agree. Audio description is awesome. I wish that TV series Heard it. I mean I know the ones on Netflix do but I wish the ones on regular cable did it well.

Hello there I really enjoyed this video I am visually impaired myself totally blind in my right eye low vision and limited visual field in my left eye you could say I'm half blind in my left eye. For years I watched movies without audio description I didn't think I needed it since I still have some remaining vision I was able to see the screen. Of course with my eye conditions being glaucoma nystagmus rapid involuntary eye movement all those things affect my vision where I thought I was seeing everything I really wasn't getting the whole picture. When I begin to use audio description I've been realized just how much little things that I was missing in the movie like facial expressions especially if you come across a seeing that's white angle where the actors are far away it was almost impossible to catch every little detail. This also holds true with movies that have very dark scenes I always thought I didn't need audio description but then when I begin to use it I realized just how much I was not seeing. I didn't want to be bothering family or friends asking them what happened? several times because then they would be missing out on the movie I now try to utilize audio description whenever it's available whether it's at a movie theater on Netflix or on DVDs thanks for your video it was awesome.

I am totally blind, and I was wondering, when we go to haunted houses on Halloween why don’t they have audio description in the haunted houses so when the audience gets scared, the audio description can tell you, what is there if it’s visual affects. Also when blind people like me, touch something in the haunted house, it should feel just as real as what the audience is seeing, but it doesn’t most of the time for example, if you wanted to touch a dead hand, instead when you touch it, you know that it’s rubber so then you feel let down and disappointed because you want to get the same scary thrill that everyone else gets and enjoying it just like all the rest and you don’t want to say out loud oh, it’s just rubber because you don’t want to spoil it for everyone else. Why can’t haunted houses use things that feel real so that way we could be scared to? Also, I’m a big fan of Halloween I love it, so when Halloween comes around, I wonder that, we can hear the scary sound effects and we can feel when somebody grabs us or jumps out at us, and that’s great, but they need to improve on the scary things we touch.

Hello Megan. Came across your channel a few days ago. I like your videos; I'm vision impaired myself. Are you able to do a video about your eye condition, and your experiences with it?
